Haunted Mansion Movie Reportedly in the Works at Disney from Ghostbusters Remake Writer

The Haunted Mansion movie may be in the works with one of the writers of the Ghostbusters remake reportedly attached on the script. The Hollywood Reporter reports writer Katie Dippold is currently working on a new live-action Haunted Mansion movie. The film production company Rideback, which recently worked with Disney on their Aladdin remake, is also said to be working on the Haunted Mansion adaptation. Dippold was a writer for MadTV and Parks and Recreation before she teamed up with filmmaker Paul Feig to write the Sandra Bullock comedy The Heat and the Ghostbusters remake. Her most recent writing credit is on the Amy Schumer comedy Snatched. He made a surprise appearance during Disney's Tron panel at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con to officially announce his plans to make a movie adaptation of the ride, but, in August 2019, del Toro said that his interest in the project has waned. "I’m not sure I would shoot [The Haunted Mansion] right now," del Toro said to Moviefone in August 2019. "My gauging of interest is moot but I would love to see a Haunted Mansion movie by someone who loves it." Watch an interview with del Toro from 2010 where he talks about The Haunted Mansion. It ended up with over $150 million at the worldwide box office, which isn't as big as the $650 million worldwide box office of the first Pirates of the Caribbean, but not as bad as the $18 million gross of The Country Bears. Disney continues to turn its theme park rides into movies with an adaptation of Jungle Cruise coming to theaters in July 2021. Up next for Disney is a remake of Mulan, which is receiving an interesting release plan on Disney+.
