Why Aren't There More MCU Comics?

There's an unusual relationship between Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios. The comics are the original source material, and they've inspired every MCU film to some degree or another. At the same time, the MCU tends to make big, ambitious changes to that source material, a lot of which winds up inspiring similar changes in the comics. Sometimes comic creators find inspired ways of working these new elements into their books (Exiles introducing an MCU-inspired version of Valkyrie being one recent, notable example), and other times... we get Nick Fury, Jr. The constant back-and-forth relationship between the comics and the movies begs the question - why doesn't Marvel publish more comics that are actually set in the MCU? Why aren't they exploring that mostly untapped storytelling potential?

Alexander Skarsgard and Michael Shannon Play Spy Games in New AMC Thriller

This September, IGN is featuring the best TV coming your way in the 2018-2019 season. Today we're spotlighting The Little Drummer Girl, an upcoming AMC limited series based on the 1983 spy thriller from novelist John le Carré - the second AMC adaptation of the author's work, following 2016's The Night Manager. The Little Drummer Girl stars Florence Pugh as Charlie, a British actress who falls in love with a man named Becker (Alexander Skarsgård), only to discover she's actually being recruited into a complex plot to hunt down a Palestinian terrorist. Little Drummer Girl is also notable for serving as the TV directorial debut for acclaimed Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook. We were able to talk with showrunners Simon and Stephen Cornwell about the new series, why it's as much a love story as a thriller, and why Park was so eager to participate in the show. Dave Bautista Is Returning to WWE for SmackDown 1000

On Tuesday, October 16, Evolution will be reuniting for WWE SmackDown’s 1,000th episode, which includes the return of Dave Bautista.

Evolution consists of some of the most successful Superstars in WWE history, with 49 world championship reigns between the four members: Tripple H, Batista, Randy Orton and Ric Flair. The announcement came from WWE announcer Mike Rome on Friday.

Dave Bautista (under his famous ring name Batista) became a six-time WWE world champion by winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship four times and the WWE Championship twice.

Many didn’t think he’d make it to the SmackDown 1000 event, as earlier this month he Tweeted out that he hadn’t been invited. Well, it looks like that won’t be the case, and the entire Evolution crew will be back together for the historic occasion.

Minecraft: Dungeons Announced for PC

Minecraft: Dungeons, a brand new game set in the world of Minecraft, is coming to PC in 2019, Mojang announced today during Minecon Earth 2018.

Being developed internally by a "small and dedicated team" within Mojang, the developer describes Minecraft: Dungeons as an "action-adventure game inspired by classic dungeon crawlers." It'll support up to four players and feature various new weapons, items, and mobs, as well as a variety of environments to explore and an overarching quest that'll see players face off against an enemy called the Arch-Illager.

"When I think of Minecraft I think about it as a multiverse," Jens Bergensten, lead developer at Mojang told IGN. "Dungeons is essentially one Minecraft world with specific areas to go to, specific quests, and specific monsters. That said there are of course procedural elements to the game.”

Is PlayStation Taking Notes from Xbox Game Pass?

BEYOND!

With the recent announcement that PlayStation Now will allow for players to download and play PS4 and PS2 games offline from Sony's subscription streaming service, the crew of IGN's weekly PlayStation show Beyond dug into the topic.

Watch the video above to see Jonathon Dornbush, Brian Altano, and Max Scoville discuss whether PlayStation Now's new capabilities are taking a note out of Xbox's Game Pass system, and whether we could see the service be combined with PlayStation Plus in the future.

In its original announcement, Sony did note that users will need to connect their PS4’s to the internet every few days to verify their PS Now subscription to play downloaded titles, but an always-on, super-fast internet connection won’t be necessary for this verification.

Every Amiibo Figure Ever

Amiibo may not be the wild craze they were when they first released, but they are still some of the best official Nintendo figurines you can find. As of publish, 175 official Amiibo have been made or announced, though that number comes with some caveats.

Here's gallery of every single Amiibo figurine released or announced, sorted by game series. There are a whole lot in there, so be sure to use the arrow keys for quicker browsing if you are viewing on the desktop site:

Now, let's get a few things straight: We aren't counting the Animal Crossing Amiibo cards. There are A LOT of those, but 2D cards don't really feel like they qualify as full-on Amiibo. (Though we did include the cereal box Amiibo, that's 3D, right?) Additionally, there are four figurines from the Skylanders games, but they actually do double as official Amiibo. Additionally, the Mr. Game & Watch Amiibo has four interchangeable poses sold in a bundle with only one base, technically making it a single Amiibo.

Star Wars Resistance Sneak Peek: Why We're Rooting for Poe's New Protege

Throughout September, IGN is featuring the best TV coming your way in the 2018-2019 season. Today we're visiting a galaxy far, far away for a look at Star Wars Resistance, the latest animated effort from Star Wars Rebels creator Dave Filoni. Resistance follows Kazuda "Kaz" Xiono (Christopher Sean), "a young pilot recruited by the Resistance for a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order." The new series premieres Sunday, Oct. 7 on Disney Channel.

Following in the footsteps of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Resistance aims to fill in a period of time that remains unexplored in the franchise's main saga - taking place before the events of The Force Awakens to offer insight into the inner workings of the Resistance and its scrappy band of rebel pilots and spies.

Why the PS4 Spider-Man Deserves His Own Comic

Marvel Comics released Spider-Geddon #0 this week. While that comic serves as a direct lead-in to the upcoming Spider-Geddon crossover, that's by no means the only selling point. Spider-Geddon #0 is notable for serving as the comic book debut of the Peter Parker of Marvel's Spider-Man video game on PS4. And if this issue accomplished anything, it's showing how much potential this version of Spidey has for his own ongoing comic book series.

Warning: spoilers for Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4 ahead!

It's easy to dismiss the need for a Spider-Man comic set in this game's version of the Marvel universe. Marvel has an overabundance of Spider-Man comics as it is, with books spotlighting the classic Peter Parker as well as offshoot characters like Spider-Gwen, Scarlet Spider and Venom. There's even an alternate universe version of Spidey in Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows. Is Insomniac's take on Spider-Man truly different enough to stand out when you cut the gameplay out of the equation and focus solely on story?

PSX 2018 Isn't Happening, But Maybe That's a Good Thing for PlayStation

For the last several years, PlayStation has found a way to continue the conference hype of E3, Paris Games Week, and TGS months after the fact, with PlayStation Experience serving as another home for big reveals. And while the confirmation that there will be no PSX 2018 is a bummer for PlayStation fans, myself included, Sony’s behavior over the last year is indicative of the fact that they don’t need PSX to deliver important news or celebrate big releases.

While PSX allows fans to come together and demo tons of upcoming and recently released PlayStation games, its place as a centerpiece for the entire PlayStation community is waning given Sony’s recent strategy and last year’s underwhelming show.

Sansa Stark Actress Thinks GoT Series Finale Will Divide Fans

Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark on the HBO show, thinks the series finale will split fans down the middle.

During a phone interview today to promote the first trailer for Dark Phoenix, wherein she reprises her role as X-Men member Jean Grey, Turner revealed her reaction to reading the script for the series finale.

"A lot of tears. I think, you know, as an actor it was really satisfying -- I think for everyone, everyone’s storylines -- to be able to act out the way that it all ends. It was really satisfying for us," Turner said. "Who knows if it will be satisfying for the fans. I think a lot of fans will be disappointed and a lot of fans will be over the moon, I think. I think it will be really interesting to see people’s reactions, but for me reading the script it was just like heartbreaking to read at the very final page of the script it just says, ‘End of Game of Thrones’. That was really emotional."

Joker Theory: Is the DC Movie Inspired by This Vigilante Classic?

While The King of Comedy is a widely reported inspiration for the Joker origin movie, new clues from the set hint that another Martin Scorsese/Robert De Niro classic -- Taxi Driver -- could also be an influence.

The King of Comedy and Taxi Driver are both profiles of deranged and broken men, delusional urban loners who criminally lash out at those they feel have rejected them, and the Joker movie -- penned by director Todd Phillips (the Hangover trilogy) and co-screenwriter Scott Silver (8 Mile, The Fighter) -- certainly sounds like it’s in a similar vein. The official plot synopsis for Joker describes Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck as “a man disregarded by society” and the DC film as “not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”

Star Wars: Kathleen Kennedy's Lucasfilm Deal Extended

Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, has had her deal with the Star Wars production company extended for three more years. The deal will now last through 2021.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Kennedy is seen as the architect of the current Star Wars film franchise, and has overseen four feature films in the series: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Despite Solo underperforming in the box office, the four films combined have earned nearly $4.5 billion worldwide, and this extension is seen as a vote of confidence in Kennedy’s leadership of the franchise. With her position as president, many have voiced their criticisms of the more recent Star Wars films towards her, though Disney CEO Bob Iger places the blame of the release timing of Solo on himself.

Head here for our look at how a certain Iron Fist villain could impact Daredevil Season 3. Or here for an explanation on how Danny Rand's powers work.

Iron Fist completely upended its own mythology in the Season 2 finale, imbuing Colleen Wing with the titular power from the Heart of the Dragon after Davos was defeated, and sending Danny Rand and Ward Meachum on a quest to learn more about the history of the Iron Fist in Asia (and hopefully "find themselves" in the process).

Facebook reset the access tokens on the 50 million affected accounts, as well as an additional 40 million user accounts as a "precautionary step." Affected users would need to log back into the app, desktop version, and linked apps as a result.

Is the DC Universe Becoming Too Dark?

If there's been any takeaway from the from the last several weeks' worth of DC Comics releases, it's that it's not the greatest time to be a hero in the DC Universe. Nightwing was just grievously wounded in Batman #55. Doomsday Clock #7 revealed that Doctor Manhattan caused the premature death of a famed Golden Age superhero. And most disturbingly of all, no fewer than six heroes were killed in an act of superhuman mass-murder in Heroes in Crisis #1. At some point you have to question whether the DCU is becoming too dark for its own good.
