Oscar-nominated actor Michael Keaton had a simple reason for saying no to Batman Forever.
"It sucked," he told The Hollywood Reporter after seeing the script. After portraying the Caped Crusader in Batman and Batman Returns, both directed by Tim Burton, he voted against returning for Batman Forever, helmed by Joel Schumacher.
"I knew it was in trouble," Keaton said, "when
said, 'Why does everything have to be so dark?'"
With Keaton passing on Batman Forever, Val Kilmer donned the mask and cape. And then George Clooney became Bruce Wayne with Batman & Robin for Schumacher, before the franchise was rebooted by Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale with the Dark Knight trilogy.
