Studio Ghibli's Hayao Miyazaki Is Coming Out of Retirement

Hayao Miyazaki, the co-founder of Studio Ghibli and director of some of the most beloved anime films of all time, has once again announced he's coming out of retirement to direct a new movie.

According to Little White Lies, Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki confirmed in a pre-Oscars interview with Pixar director Pete Docter that the Japanese animation studio will be back to producing feature-length movies in-house, and Miyazaki will helm its first full-length CG-animated movie.

Miyazaki's in-development CG project was originally conceived as a short film titled Kemushi no Boro, echoing a report that surfaced last year suggesting he may come out of retirement. The director has been outspoken in his dislike for CG animation in the past, but has apparently warmed up to the technology and been learning how to animate using a computer.
