David Harbour has teased that there will be a huge reveal regarding Jim Hopper's backstory in Stranger Things Season 4. IndieWire reports that Harbour participated in a live Q&A with the audience at Liverpool Comic-Con in March, where he spilt the (coffee) beans on the new season, as he revealed that one storyline would be digging deeper into Hopper's character, who is very much alive. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/07/04/stranger-things-season-3-post-credits-scene-explained"] In a video clip from the event, Harbour refers back to a Season 2 episode, where Eleven discovers an assortment of boxes stowed away in Hopper's cabin, as a mystery that will finally receive a payoff this season. Harbour explains, "there are five boxes, one of which has Brenner's stuff from Hawkins Lab, one of which says 'Dad,' and one of which says 'Vietnam,' and one says 'New York.' So, there are these three things that we've established in the season that if we don't pay off, it means that [the Duffer brothers are] bad writers. And the Duffer brothers are very good writers. So I know specifically that in Season 4 we will give you a big, huge reveal about Hopper's backstory." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/07/06/what-will-happen-in-stranger-things-season-4"] "I'm so excited about revealing this aspect of the character," Harbour added. "It's one of the things that I've known since the first frame of the first shot, and we haven't expressed it yet. And finally, we're gonna express it in a big way. It's my favourite thing about him that you guys don't know about him yet, but it has to do with these backstories of New York, Vietnam, and Dad. And I'm really excited for you guys to know more about that, and it relates, of course, to what he's doing with Eleven and Joyce and things like that." Unfortunately, we might have some time to wait until we can set sail on that particular curiosity voyage, as Harbour said that fans will get to see the "big reveal" whenever the next season comes out, joking that it might be in "2050," as production on Stranger Things 4 is currently on hiatus amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. TV is not the only studio to have put a halt on production, as a number of NBC, Amazon, FX, and Apple TV+ series' have been forced to take a break from filming in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.
