While he's still a long ways out from stepping foot on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, writer-director James Gunn has reportedly said he doesn't intend to direct a Vol. 4 in the MCU franchise. At least that's what Gunn told a fan who inquired about it on social media, according to ComicBookMovie. "I absolutely never said I wouldn't do a Vol. 2, as I planned to do a trilogy from the beginning if the first one worked," Gunn is quoted as saying. "I have no plans to do a [fourth]." When a fan asked Gunn if someone will die in Vol. 3, he simply replied "Yes," but it should be noted that it's entirely unclear from both the question and answer whether that character is a minor or a major one. Gunn is currently in post-production on 2021's The Suicide Squad. He recently said the releases of both The Suicide Squad and Guardians Vol. 3 shouldn't be affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
