The summer update won’t be a Chapter 7 expansion, but will instead be a standalone update with “some new content, weapons, and game tweaks.” After that, Battlefield 5 will be supported with new Weekly Missions but “otherwise have no further content planned beyond our updates to Community Games and ensuring healthy game performance.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-battlefield-review&captions=true"] One of the updates arriving this summer is weekly Battlefield Currency or Company Coin rewards which will let players unlock past gear they may have missed. There will also be community events like the return of the #FridayNightBattlefield servers and Throwback Thursdays. Beyond that, it seems that EA DICE will be closing the book on Battlefield 5. The last military shooter from DICE took the action back to World War 2 after Battlefield 1 took place during World War 1. EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed there will not be a Battlefield game released in 2020. EA also recently promoted Respawn’s Vince Zampella to oversee DICE LA, though that studio typically serves as a support studio and will branch out as an independent studio under Zampella.
