The New Mutants' Anya Taylor-Joy is reportedly up a role in George Miller's Furiosa spin-off set in the Max Max: Fury Road universe. Variety released a report detailing what some movie productions are doing in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. At the end of their report, they said Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller has been meeting with several names for his Furiosa spin-off, with one of those names being Taylor-Joy. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-sci-fi-movies&captions=true"] "Most executives don't expect things to get back to normal for several weeks, though a few are taking video and phone meetings as they try to game out films they hope to green light in the next 12 months," the Variety report reads. "Director George Miller, for instance, has been meeting with names including Anya Taylor-Joy for his 'Furiosa' spin-off, which he hopes to start shooting in 2021. Of course, Miller is making concessions to coronavirus — those auditions have taken place via Skype." If Variety is correct, this is the first we've heard of anything more than a general interest from Miller. Back in 2017, the director said another movie in the Mad Max universe could explore more of the character of Furiosa. "She's a pretty compelling character so it'd be great to tell her story," Miller said. "Her backstory is pretty interesting, we only allude to it in this movie (Mad Max: Fury Road). This movie is on the run, people don't have much time for recreational talk. You have a sense of her having gone through stuff, that's what the movie is trying to do. You know, you're trying to put a lot of iceberg under the tip, I like saying." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2016/01/07/george-miller-interested-in-making-a-furiosa-movie-ign-news"] A Furiosa spin-off movie could explore the rest of that iceberg and Taylor-Joy might be along for the ride. Who the actor would play, though, is unknown. If she gets the role, perhaps we'd see that character in the sequel to Fury Road. We do know, however, that we won't be seeing Furiosa in that sequel. Here are some ways to help others and stay safe during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Wesley LeBlanc is a freelance news writer and guide maker for IGN.
