Watch Daniel Radcliffe Read the First Chapter of Harry Potter

A roster of celebrities have signed up to read chapters of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the first of J.K. Rowling's beloved fantasy book series, as part of the next phase of the Harry Potter At Home initiative. In a tweet on Tuesday, the Wizarding World team announced that Daniel Radcliffe, Stephen Fry, David Beckham, Dakota Fanning, Claudia Kim, Noma Dumezweni, and Eddie Redmayne would be amongst the cast of narrators to appear in the first batch of special video and audio recordings. As the figurehead of the Harry Potter movies for so many years, Radcliffe launched the project by reading the first chapter, "The Boy Who Lived," in which he introduced the Dursleys (who don't like anything mysterious) to muggles around the world this week. All 17 chapters of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone will be read by different narrators between now and the middle of summer. Videos will be posted weekly on the Harry Potter At Home hub, with audio versions available to stream on Spotify. The free initiative, launched in April, provides resources and activities cumulated by the Wizarding World team in collaboration with their partners at Audible, Bloomsbury, OverDrive, Pottermore Publishing and Scholastic in a bid to cast a Banishing Charm on boredom. Rowling joins a host of other celebrities offering lighter entertainment options for those living in lockdown. John Krasinski started up a new YouTube series "dedicated entirely to good news" while Seth MacFarlane launched a podcast hosted by Family Guy's Stewie and Brian. Plus, Jodie Whittaker transformed into Doctor Who for an "emergency transmission" and Sir Patrick Stewart has been reading daily sonnets to his fans.
