Keanu Reeves' BRSRKR Comic Gets a Kickstarter

While BOOM! Studios is gearing up for the October 7 debut of BRSRKR, a new action-fantasy series co-written by Keanu Reeves, the publisher is also turning to Kickstarter to boost the project's reach. BOOM! has launched a Kickstarter drive that allows backers to pre-order box sets of the three BRSRKR graphic novels (each of which will collect four issues of the 12-issue limited series). Depending on the tier you choose, you'll be able to pre-order softcover or hardcover editions, some of which feature Kickstarter-exclusive cover designs. Higher tiers offer additional perks like a signed art print or the chance to be drawn as a character in the story. BRSRKR is co-written by Reeves and Matt Kindt (X-O Manowar, Mind MGMT), with art by Ron Garney (The Amazing Spider-Man, Conan the Barbarian), colors by Bill Crabtree (BPRD), and letters by Clem Robins (Hellboy). Rafael Grampá (Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child) provided character designs and is also drawing covers alongside prolific Marvel/DC cover artist Mark Brooks. "In this brutally violent new series, the man known only as Berzerker is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence...even at the sacrifice of his sanity.  But after wandering the world for centuries, Berzerker may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, Berzerker will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it."

“Many companies use Kickstarter to fund their projects. We are not doing this,” said BOOM! Studios CEO and founder Ross Richie in the publisher's press release. “We are working with Kickstarter as a distribution platform to expand our reach. It’s our dream here at BOOM! Studios to introduce new readers to the medium of comic books and graphic novels. By combining the reach of Kickstarter with the interest in Keanu Reeves and the action-packed epic that is BRZRKR, we’re excited to introduce so many folks to their very first comic book.” The Kickstarter drive will remain open until October 1. Backers will receive each individual graphic novel at the same time the mass market editions are released in stores. BOOM! estimates Vol. 1 will be released in September 2021, followed by Vol. 2 in April 2022 and Vol. 3 in September 2022.
