New PlayStation boss John Kodera has said that he wants the company to continue thinking about portable gaming.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Kodera said it was “not yet the right stage to discuss specific hardware plans", but that the company was carrying out experiments in the area.
“In my opinion, rather than separating portable gaming from consoles, it’s necessary to continue thinking of it as one method to deliver more gaming experiences and exploring what our customers want from portable. We want to think about many options.”
Currently, Sony now runs a Japan-only smartphone game developer, ForwardWorks, but has scaled back much of its portable output elsewhere.
