Black Panther Star Chadwick Boseman Has Died

Chadwick Boseman, the star of Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has died at the age of 43. Boseman's family confirmed his death, first reported by AP, with a message:
"It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV. "A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. "It was the honor of his career to bring King T'Challa to life in Black Panther. "He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side. "The family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.
As mentioned in the note by Boseman's family, the actor had starred in a number of productions throughout his life, playing real-life figures Jackie Robinson in 42, James Brown in Get on Up, and Thurgood Marshall in Marshall. He is perhaps most well-known for his role as T'Challa/Black Panther, a role he took on in Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, and would have again in the upcoming Black Panther 2, which was previously planned for a 2022 release. Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, based on the play by August Wilson, has yet to be released.

Snake Eyes Has Been Delayed to 2021

Paramount has updated its movie release schedule including a delay to Snake Eyes and announce an official release date for Scream 5. Paramount announced in a press release Friday that G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes, which was originally slated to hit theaters this year on Oct. 23, has been pushed back to October 22, 2021. The movie will center around the character, as portrayed by Henry Golding, training to become a member of the Arashikage Clan. Scream 5 has also received a release date and it will be coming to theaters January 14, 2022. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-delayed-movie-due-to-coronavirus-so-far&captions=true"] Scream 5 is coming by way of a team up between Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group. The film will be helmed by Ready or Not directorial team Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and will see franchise favorites like Courteney Cox and David Arquette reprise their respective roles. The company also announced that an untitled Lee Daniels Billie Holiday film is set for release on February 12, 2021, and that the Clifford the Big Red Dog movie originally set to release on Nov. 13 will now hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Paramount has also pushed back an untitled Paranormal Activity movie to March 4, 2022. It was originally set to release on March 19 of next year. Beyond delays, the company has removed an untitled Paramount-Hasbro event film from schedule. This movie was supposed to release in October next year but it seems that movie will no longer be released. It's unclear if this is a full cancellation of the film or if it was removed because the company has not yet decided on a release date. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/13/how-coronavirus-delays-are-impacting-2020-movies-ign-now"] Paramount is not alone in shifting its release schedule amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic. Disney did the same earlier this week, pushing The King's Man back five months into 2021. Perhaps Paramount might shift to a digital distribution format for some of its upcoming movies like Universal Pictures did earlier this year with Trolls World Tour and The Invisible Man. Here are some ways to help, and stay safe, during the Coronavirus pandemic. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Wesley LeBlanc is a freelance news writer and guide maker for IGN. Haunted Mansion Movie Reportedly in the Works at Disney from Ghostbusters Remake Writer

The Haunted Mansion movie may be in the works with one of the writers of the Ghostbusters remake reportedly attached on the script. The Hollywood Reporter reports writer Katie Dippold is currently working on a new live-action Haunted Mansion movie. The film production company Rideback, which recently worked with Disney on their Aladdin remake, is also said to be working on the Haunted Mansion adaptation. Dippold was a writer for MadTV and Parks and Recreation before she teamed up with filmmaker Paul Feig to write the Sandra Bullock comedy The Heat and the Ghostbusters remake. Her most recent writing credit is on the Amy Schumer comedy Snatched. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-upcoming-disney-live-action-remake&captions=true"] Guillermo del Toro has been attempting to make a Haunted Mansion movie with Disney for years. He made a surprise appearance during Disney's Tron panel at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con to officially announce his plans to make a movie adaptation of the ride, but, in August 2019, del Toro said that his interest in the project has waned. "I’m not sure I would shoot [The Haunted Mansion] right now," del Toro said to Moviefone in August 2019. "My gauging of interest is moot but I would love to see a Haunted Mansion movie by someone who loves it." Watch an interview with del Toro from 2010 where he talks about The Haunted Mansion. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2010/07/24/the-haunted-mansion-del-toro-movie-sdcc-10-guillermo-del-toro"] Disney already made The Haunted Mansion into a movie in 2003 starring Eddie Murphy. It ended up with over $150 million at the worldwide box office, which isn't as big as the $650 million worldwide box office of the first Pirates of the Caribbean, but not as bad as the $18 million gross of The Country Bears. Disney continues to turn its theme park rides into movies with an adaptation of Jungle Cruise coming to theaters in July 2021. Up next for Disney is a remake of Mulan, which is receiving an interesting release plan on Disney+. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 & 2: New Footage Shown at Gamescom

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 & 2 has shown off new gameplay at Gamescom, and we've learned a little about how the game will approach adding secrets, tricks and more to the original games. In an interview with Vicarious Visions' Andy Gentile on Gamescom Studio, we showed off around 7 minutes of new gameplay (which you can watch below), showing off a variety of skaters going for high score's on a recreated version of the Downhill Jam level: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/28/tony-hawks-pro-skater-12-developer-interview-whats-new-and-whats-unchanged"] As for the interview itself, Gentile was careful not to give too much away, but discussed how the remake will include some of the original games' Secrets, but add its own too - "I think people will be excited with what we've done," said Gentile. Challenges have also been added to, with some skater-specific goals added to offer a larger breadth of challenges. The game will also include new and renamed tricks alongside the original roster. "There are some special moves, like the double 360 flip, the hospital flip, castor flip underflip, all these kinds of little nuances. I'm not sure many people will notice, but for players like me I'm really excited to see some new variety making its way in." As for whether the game could add new features post-launch, Gentile was a little more cagey: "Could they? Yes. Will they? Maybe." We'll find out much more when the game arrives on Xbox One, PS4 and PC on September 4. The X-Files Animated Comedy Spinoff Series In the Works

The X-Files is getting an animated comedy spinoff series and it's coming to Fox. TV Line reports that Fox will be developing the show with X-Files creator Chris Carter serving as executive producer. Carter will not be writing or working as a showrunner though. According to TV Line, the show will be titled The X-Files: Albuquerque and will be a "toon offshoot" of the original show. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=8-facts-you-didnt-know-about-the-x-files-best-monsters&captions=true"] While in the same universe as the original show, this spinoff will not feature David Duchovny's Mulder or Gillian Anderson's Scully, who were last seen in the revival seasons from a few years back. This series will reportedly instead focus on a group of misfit office agents who investigate cases too out-there for Mulder or Scully to even bother with. Netflix's Paradise PD writers Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko will write the pilot and work as executive producers with Carter and X-Files writer Gabe Rotter. Bento Box will be the studio responsible for the show's animation. A cast of characters or actors to voice them has not yet been announced, but the show has only received a script commitment from Fox so far. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/09/16/history-of-awesome-x-files"] The original X-Files series centered on Mulder and Scully ran from 1993 to 2002 and spanned nine seasons with over 200 episodes. Two movies were made for the show as well: 1998's The X-Files and 2008's The X-Files: I Want to Believe. The show came back for a tenth season in 2016 and was renewed for an eleventh season in 2018. Unfortunately for fans, there isn't another X-Files season on the cards currently. Read about why Anderson said goodbye to Scully after 11 seasons and then read about how Carter considered another series without Anderson. The Medium: Troy Baker Explains His New Monster Character, The Maw

Troy Baker has discussed his role as The Maw in The Medium, a malevolent entity stalking the game's heroine Marianne, saying it's a character type the popular voice actor has never played before in his career. Speaking on IGN's Gamescom Studio, Baker describes The Maw as a metaphysical entity that both stalks you and informs where you are in the world, and says his vocal performance was designed to communicate the idea of "an entity outside of gender." Check out the full interview below: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/28/the-medium-voice-actor-troy-baker-talks-up-this-moody-mystery-game"] Baker also said The Maw is a very new kind of character for the well-known actor: "I've played the brooding hero, I've played the hands-on-hips superhero [but The Maw] is something like I've never done before." The Maw's performance capture was created by a separate actor, who used stilts for the role to create a more monstrous physicality than a regularly motion-captured human could potentially create. You can check out a brief glimpse of The Maw - and Baker's performance - in the behind-the-scenes video below. Speaking about The Medium itself, Baker describes the game as more of a psychological thriller than a gory horror experience, and compares it to early PC horror games that still haunt him to this day. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/28/the-medium-gameplay-dev-walkthrough-experience-horror-in-two-worlds-at-the-same-time"] The Medium is coming to PC and Xbox Series X during holiday 2020 and will, among other things, render two separate worlds simultaneously to give a unique twist to its mix of advenure and survival horror. Anno: Mutationem Shows New Gameplay, Explains Its Gorgeous 2D/3D Mix

2D/3D cyberpunk action-platformer-RPG-hybrid-thing, Anno: Mutationem has shown off new gameplay, and developer ThinkingStars has detailed how the game's many genre elements fit together. Revealed during Gamescom 2020, the gameplay shows off more of Anno: Mutationem's unusual mix of 2D sprites for characters amid a 3D cyberpunk world inspired by Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell. The New Mutants Off to a Decent Box Office Start With Thursday Night Previews

After years of delay, The New Mutants is being released in North American theaters. Now, box office trackers are reporting that the horror-tinged X-Men film has earned $750,000 in Thursday night previews, and is tracking to a $7 to $10 million weekend. The New Mutants opened in 2,412 locations across North America. The preview night gross matches similar movies that have gone on to track between $7 to $10 million, which is decent considering both the long road The New Mutants took to finally reach theaters and the global pandemic affecting theater going. Based on the X-Men comic books of the same name, The New Mutants stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Charlie Heaton as mutants accepted into a sinister institution. Directed by Josh Boone, The New Mutants promises a unique spin on the X-Men formula by focusing more on horror-elements around a young adult cast. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/06/the-new-mutants-official-trailer-2"] You can expect to see IGN’s review soon on the site, which our reviewers screened in a socially distanced, drive-in experience. Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time's Flashback Levels Revealed

Time is the name of the game in Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, and a new feature revealed by developer Toys for Bob is bringing players all the way back in Crash and Coco's history to before the original trilogy. As revealed during Gamescom 2020, Crash 4 will feature tough, throwback levels that players can unlock via discoverable VHS tapes. Check out our interview with TFB's Lou Studdert for a first look at the gameplay from these levels and for more info on what to expect. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/28/crash-bandicoot-4-its-about-time-offers-punishing-nitro-crate-filled-playgrounds-for-completionists"] In an homage to the Crash Bandicoot death run levels of yesteryear, players can only discover the VHS tapes in levels if they make it to them without dying. When playing these levels, players will have to navigate some particularly challenge test chambers because, well...they actually are tests. These levels are presented as VHS'es with Dr. Cortex's voiceover commenting on Crash and Coco's performance from experiments back before the events of the original Crash Bandicoot. These levels won't be the only new twist on the Crash Bandicoot formula coming in Crash 4 — villains like Dr. Neo Cortex and Dingodile will be playable, and a new N. Verted mode for Crash 4 offers a unique take on mirror mode and an extra incentive to replay its levels. Video Games Are the 'Future of Storytelling,' Says Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt believes that video games are the future of storytelling, not movies. Gordon-Levitt was recently interviewed while eating extremely spicy wings on First We Feast's Hot Ones YouTube interview series. The 25-minute interview broached a number of topics but stayed close to what Gordon-Levitt is best known for: entertainment. When asked by Hot Ones host Sean Evans about storytelling in media, the actor said he sees video games as the future, as spotted by GameSpot. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/06/11/joseph-gordon-levitt-announces-hit-record-in-beyond-good-and-evil-2"] "The future of storytelling, it's going to be video games," Gordon-Levitt said. "I don't think it's going to be filmmakers who figure out how to do that. But (video games) feels like kind of the most groundbreaking storytelling." The actor continued and said the storytelling happening in video games is in a "whole different realm than anything we've seen before." It's what video games are doing differently in the realm of storytelling that makes Gordon-Levitt believe storytelling's future isn't necessary in the "feature film form." While Gordon-Levitt is best known for his work in the film industry, he's not a stranger to games. He's the founder of HitRECord, which is an open online community for creative collaboration, and it's this company that Gordon-Levitt has found himself associated with games like Beyond Good and Evil 2. He was, however, criticized by game developers for utilizing "spec work" in HitRECord's partnership with BG&E2 back in 2018. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=watch-dogs-legion-official-screenshots&captions=true"] HitRECord struck up another deal with Ubisoft to get music created for Watch Dogs: Legion, which was met with similar criticism. The actor has even lent his voice to a couple video games before, namely 2002's Treasure Planet: Battle at Procyon and 2009's G.I.: Rise of Cobra. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Wesley LeBlanc is a freelance news writer and guide maker for IGN who wishes Gordon-Levitt got to portray Batman after events of The Dark Knight Rises. You can follow him on Twitter @LeBlancWes.

Sea of Thieves Adds New Permanent Voyage in September Update

Sea of Thieves is adding a shaggy new addition to your pirate crew in its September update. In a new state of Sea of Thieves video premiered during Gamescom 2020, developer Rare outlined some of the progress the open seas adventure game has made since its Steam launch, and what the developers have in store for next month. Chief among the new additions will be the inclusion of new dog companions that players can now have aboard their ships. And while these lovable companions can be pet, show affection, and generally appear as a cute friend, they're also inclined to, well, take care of business. So watch where you step. Additionally, a new permanent Voyage type is being added for Gold Hoarders, but more information about it will be coming closer to its launch. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/28/the-state-of-sea-of-thieves-next-year-will-be-the-biggest-one-yet"] As Rare looks ahead to monthly updates, executive producer Joe Neate said the team is looking to add new features, quality of life improvements, bug fixes, and a focus on live events, with the aim to "have something unique for players to do throughout the month and not just looking toward the next monthly update." Neate also looked at the game's recent Steam success, explaining that about 20-30 percent of the current player base is from that PC version, but enjoys cross-play with all others. With its arrival on Steam, Neate noted that players ask about other potential platforms, and he explained that "the most important thing is that any new players can play via Xbox Live with the rest of our community," when it comes to the team deciding on where to bring the game next. IGN's Sea of Thieves re-review this year praised the game's advancements since launch, saying "Sea of Thieves presents an endless sea of possibilities full of exciting encounters with other players and a never-ending list of fun things to do." IGN also spoke with the dev team earlier this year to look at how Rare successfully reinvented Sea of Thieves. Sea of Thieves is set to be optimized for Xbox Series X.
