Lilo & Stitch: Jon M. Chu May Direct Live-Action Reboot

A live-action reboot of 2002's Lilo & Stitch was announced earlier this year and it seems Disney is circling John M. Chu to direct, According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Crazy Rich Asians director is in negotiations with Disney to direct a live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch for the company, but it's unclear if this movie would go to theaters or straight to Disney+. We learned earlier this year that this Lilo & Stitch will be a live-action/CGI hybrid movie and filmed in Hawaii, which is also where the movie takes place. It was reported at the time that the original voice of Stitch, Chris Sanders, was expected to reprise the role for this film. Rideback is the company behind Disney's live-action Aladdin remake, which earned over $1 billion at the box office in 2019 and secured a green light for a sequel. Mike Van Waes has written a draft for this Lilo & Stitch remake, but it's important to note that the movie hasn't officially been given the green light and is still in development. Lilo & Stitch is about a lonely girl named Lilo who discovers a blue alien named Stitch on the run from intergalactic forces. The two become friends and Lilo tries to stop the intergalactic forces from ripping Stitch out of her Ohana, which means family. Oh, and there's a lot of Elvis Presley music too. When the original animated movie released in 2002, it grossed $273 million at the box office from a budget of $80 million. This success led to video games, sequels, spin-offs, and an animated TV series for Disney Channel.
