Darkwing Duck Reboot in the Works at Disney Plus

A Darkwing Duck reboot is in early development and will be headed to Disney Plus.

According to Variety, the reboot has no writer currently attached but is reportedly being executive produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee of Point Grey Pictures, the production company behind Amazon’s The Boys, The Disaster Artist, Sausage Party, and This is the End.

Darkwing Duck originally premiered in 1991, telling the story of Drake Mallard, his adopted daughter Gosalyn, and his sidekick Launchpad McQuack, who was also in DuckTales. It ran for three seasons encompassing 91 episodes

The series riffed on superhero culture as Darkwing Duck and company routinely fought against evildoers. The series ended in 1992, with a number of comics published throughout the 1990s and 2010s, a Darkwing Duck NES game, and a cameo in the 2017 DuckTales reboot, which you can watch above.

There’s currently no word on who will voice Darkwing Duck or other series characters. Jim Cummings (Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Star Wars’ Hondo Ohnaka) originally voiced Darkwing Duck.

Disney Plus is rolling ahead with other continuations of cult favorite franchises, including an announced Willow sequel starring Warwick Davis.
