Jack Reacher: Amazon Series Casts Titans' Alan Ritchson in Title Role

Alan Ritchson will play Jack Reacher in the upcoming Amazon TV series based off the book series. Amazon announced the news in a press release on Friday. Ritchson celebrated on his verified Instagram page with a screenshot of an article confirming the news. "I guess my joke about not fitting in bathtubs a couple weeks ago really killed at @amazonprimevideo," the caption says. "This should be fun. #JackReacher @amazon @skydance." [caption id="attachment_2403391" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]Alan Ritchson plays Hank Hall in the DC Comics TV series Titans. Alan Ritchson plays Hank Hall in the DC Comics TV series Titans.[/caption] Season 1 of the Jack Reacher series will cover the events of the novel, The Killing Floor, which was released in 1997 and spawned a series that has sold over 100 million books. The 25th Jack Reacher novel is set to hit bookshelves in October. The series as a whole follows a highly-skilled ex-Army major named Jack Reacher who solves miscellaneous cases across the United States using the techniques he mastered during his time in service. Nick Santora, who used to write and produce Prison Break, will serve as a writer and showrunner for the Jack Reacher series. The author of the book series is executive producing the Amazon show along with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie, who recently directed Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher in a theatrically-released movie from 2012. Ritchson has played Hank Hall on Titans, Raphael in the recent live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, and Thad on Blue Mountain State. He is set to appear in season 3 of Titans and will join a bunch of famous Batman characters. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=fall-tv-preview-2020-new-and-returning-shows-to-watch&captions=true"] The Rock recently revealed that he wanted to play Jack Reacher in the 2012 movie, but lost the role to Cruise. IGN's review of the Jack Reacher movie says, "Cruise is the rare action star who brings both brawn and brains to a role, and he does what he can, but is limited by a mediocre script and clichéd direction." A sequel was released starring Cruise in 2016. IGN's review of the Jack Reacher sequel called the movie, "a fun, absurd action romp with a few memorable moments that can’t help but be boosted by Cruise’s natural onscreen charisma." As for Amazon Prime, there is now a watch party feature through Twitch and here is a list of everything coming to the service in September to test that feature with. When Is Mulan Free on Disney Plus?

UPDATE: If you're an existing Disney+ subscriber who doesn't want to pay the additional $29.99 to watch Mulan now that's it out then you can just wait three months to watch it without the premium fee. Screen Rant points out that the Disney+ pre-order page for Mulan reveals the film will become available to all subscribers on December 4. So, basically, for "free" (on top of the base $6.99 streaming subscription). [poilib element="commerceDeal" parameters="slug=watch-mulan-on-disney"] Mulan-DisneyPlus-screenshot Our original report from August 5 follows. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Disney announced during an investors call Tuesday that they will forego a domestic theatrical release of their live-action retelling of Mulan in favor of a digital debut on Disney+ on September 4, 2020. Internationally, the film will open in cinemas in regions that don't yet have Disney+. Mulan will premiere on Disney+ on September 4 for a premium price of $29.99. IGN understands that once Disney+ subscribers pay that premium fee for the film that it will remain in their library for the duration of their subscription to the streaming service. "We are announcing today that, in most Disney+ markets – including the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and a number of countries in Western Europe – we will be offering Disney+ subscribers the epic adventure Mulan on Disney+ on a Premier Access basis beginning September 4," said Disney CEO Bob Chapek. "The price point will be $29.99 in the U.S., and will vary slightly in other countries. Simultaneously, we will be releasing the film theatrically in certain markets where we currently have no announced launch plans for Disney+ and where theaters are open." [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://ift.tt/3cQnthX] “We’re looking at Mulan as a one-off, as opposed to saying there’s some new business windowing model that we’re looking at," Chapek added. The media giant made the announcement while also announcing some very good news -- Disney+ has passed 60.5 million subscribers -- and some very bad news -- the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on Disney Parks saw Disney take "a $3.5 billion hit to operating income and a loss of $2 billion"  -- to shareholders. The release of Mulan had already been delayed several times this year due to the pandemic causing cinemas to close worldwide. The film was originally slated for a March 27 release before it was postponed to July 24 and then to August 21. It was even tracking to have the biggest domestic opening of 2020. That was then. There had been chatter for months that Mulan could bypass theaters in favor of a digital debut. A Wall Street analyst suggested in May how Mulan debuting on Disney+ could actually help Disney stock "in a perverse way." Will you pay $29.99 to watch Mulan from the safety of your home? Let us know in the comments! [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=mulan-biggest-differences-between-the-animated-movie-and-live-action-remake&captions=true"]

Watch Nintendo's Goofy, Fun Japanese Mario 3D All-Stars Commercials

Nintendo announced the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection during a surprise Nintendo Direct. This new All-Stars collects Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy 1 into a single package for the Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo released a series of cute, nostalgic Japanese trailers for each game in the collection. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/04/super-mario-3d-all-stars-japanese-tv-ad-super-mario-64"] Each trailer is dedicated to one of the games in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection. The first trailer is about Super Mario 64 where a father watches as his children play Super Mario 64 on the Switch. Tinged with nostalgia, the father is later seen by himself playing Mario 64 in handheld mode while the rest of the family is presumably asleep. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/04/super-mario-3d-all-stars-japanese-tv-ad-super-mario-sunshine"] The second trailer is for Super Mario Sunshine and leans on the platformer's notorious difficulty. A man inspired by the sunset goes home and plays Super Mario Sunshine on the Nintendo Switch. But he's shown losing again, and again, and again. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/04/super-mario-3d-all-stars-japanese-tv-ad-super-mario-galaxy"] The Mario Galaxy trailer is the most conventional of the three but does showcase how Mario Galaxy plays in TV mode, complete with two-person co-op where another player controls the star to collect bits. This trailer somewhat answers some questions players raised about how motion controls will work in Mario Galaxy for the Switch. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/04/super-mario-35th-anniversary-music-medley"] A final celebration video for Mario's 35th anniversary was released where Japanese singer Gen Hoshino creates a song influenced by 35 years of Mario music. Super Mario 3D All-Stars was announced as part of a special 35th anniversary Mario Direct. The collection will be released for a limited time on September 18, 2020, and will be available digitally through March 31, 2021. Pre-orders for the All-Stars collection are live now. Team Fortress 2 Community Builds Cheater-Killing Bots

Team Fortress 2’s ongoing battle with cheaters and bots has entered a new stage where there are now bots that will kill other bots. We’ve entered bot war territory. There is now a new type of bot in the Team Fortress 2 scene called “the extermination bot services,” which are scripted to only kill cheaters. They will supposedly only focus on cheating bots and will not bother regular players. Videos of the extermination bot services can be found online. While this evolution in solving Team Fortress 2’s bot problem is a quirky twist, there are lingering issues. Namely, Team Fortress 2 is being overrun by bots, whether they’re cheating aimbots or anti-bot bots. If this escalates, as some players suggest, it could risk flooding Team Fortress 2 with even more bots. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=igns-top-25-modern-pc-games&captions=true"] Team Fortress 2’s cheating woes came to a head earlier this summer when bots began spamming hateful slurs into the game chat. Valve released an update that limits access to the text chat, but that doesn’t solve the aimbots and other bots obstructing Team Fortress 2 matches. It’s unclear if Valve will take a stronger stance against the bot problem plaguing Team Fortress 2. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt T.M. Kim is a reporter for IGN.

LOTR's Hugo Weaving Has No Interest in Ever Playing Elrond Again

Hugo Weaving wouldn't be caught dead in those pointy ears again. The actor has gone on record stating that he has no desire to play the Elven ruler Elrond again, a character who will appear in Amazon's upcoming Lord of the Rings series. Weaving, who played the Lord of Rivendell in both the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies, was asked by Variety if he would be open to reprising the character of Elrond for the Amazon series, which will also feature the familiar characters Galadriel and Sauron. "No way. Absolutely no," Weaving told Variety. The actor was, however, open to playing the villainous Agent Smith again in The Matrix 4 -- which is back in production after the pandemic temporarily shut down filming -- but scheduling conflicts nixed that from happening for him. “Matrix might have happened,” he says. “But Lord of the Rings, no, I would never — I’m not interested in that at all. Look, I loved being in New Zealand with all those great people, and it was like going back to a family but actually, to be honest, I think everyone had more than enough of it.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=amazons-the-lord-of-the-rings-every-confirmed-actor&captions=true"] Amazon's Lord of the Rings takes place during Middle-earth's Second Age, a period only briefly seen in the Lord of the Rings movies. In our extensive breakdown of the Second Age, we said the setting "spans a long period of time in between the banishment of Morgoth (the original Dark Lord) and the first defeat of his servant Sauron. The Second Age is defined by key events like the rise and fall of the kingdom of Númenor, the creation of the Rings of Power and the formation of the Last Alliance that temporarily saved the world from Sauron's wrath." The long-lived, half-elven Elrond was the captain and herald of Gil-Galad, the High King of the Ñoldor, during the Second Age. During this time, Elrond fought in the War of the Last Alliance, which saw Men and Elves battling against Sauron. These events were depicted in Jackson's Fellowship of the Ring. In addition to Morfydd Clark as young Galadriel, Amazon's Lord of the Rings series cast includes Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman. The super-expensive show already has a multi-season commitment from Amazon. Production had begun earlier this year in New Zealand before shutting down due to the coronavirus pandemic. Filming reportedly aims to resume in September. Gotham Knights: Heroes' Different Combat Styles Explained

WB Games Montréal has explained a little more about the different combat styles of its four heroes, Red Hood, Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl. In a previous interview with IGN, creative director Patrick Redding made clear that all four characters would use melee and ranged weaponry, as well as special abilities. In a new interview summarised by the PlayStation Blog, Redding explained how, despite the similar set-up, the four characters would fight differently. "Red Hood is a brutal brawler with a focus on gunplay. Nightwing’s acrobatics lead to a more exaggerated style of fighting, while the current Robin favours stealth and is a dab hand at using status effects to disrupt enemies. And Batgirl? 'She combines a laser-focused, targeted and efficient melee fighter approach with a lot of resilience and the ability to weaponize her environment using hacking,' says Redding." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/7-minutes-of-batman-gotham-knights-gameplay"] While we knew that each character would utilise different weapons, this is our first hint at how the characters' innate strengths will be used in moment-to-moment gameplay. Speaking of those weapons, we've also learned that the neon indicators we saw on each one are actually gameplay-related, rather than simply colour-coded for aesthetic reasons. “It’s a very important platform for us to deliver game information," explained Redding. "Some of those visual effects tell you what damage type you have equipped on your weapons. So it’s a way for the player to receive signs of feedback… that lets them know what protection they have, what they’re going to use against their enemies, both in terms of ranged and melee attacks.” Redding has previously told IGN that players can choose to play as a single hero for the entire campaign, or switch between them by heading to the Belfry headquarters location - different playstyles and status effect-related gear makes clearer the benefit of switching characters, given that some may offer different approaches to specific challenges along the way. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=gotham-knights-6-screenshots&captions=true"]

We've learned a lot about Gotham Knights since it was announced at DC Fandome, from why it's killed off Batman, how it's set in a different universe, and why it definitely isn't a game-as-service.

Super Mario Galaxy's Motion Controls on Switch Are More Confusing Than Ever

The Super Mario 3D All-Stars release of Super Mario Galaxy has fans confused about how the game's motion controls will work on Nintendo Switch, and a Nintendo clarification hasn't necessarily helped explain things. Released in 2007, Super Mario Galaxy arrived on the Wii and took advantage of the console's motion control peripherals to activate Mario's spin ability and fire star bits in Co-Star mode. Fans have been wondering how this will work on the Nintendo Switch Lite due to a paragraph on the Super Mario 3D All-Stars website which notes that "detached Joy-Con controllers are required and sold separately" to enjoy the game's motion features. The re-release will allow players to "Gently shake a Joy-Con controller to activate Mario’s Spin ability or pass a Joy-Con controller to a friend for some extra help in Co-Star Mode." However, the Nintendo Switch Lite's Joy-Cons are baked into the device and cannot be undocked - so extra clarification is needed to understand how the game will play on the Switch Lite. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/03/super-mario-bros-35-official-trailer"] Nintendo has clarified how the game's pointer functionality will work in Handheld Mode in a statement to Polygon. "Super Mario Galaxy is supported in TV, Tabletop and Handheld Modes. In TV and Tabletop modes, motion controls are required for pointer functionality," the statement reads. In Handheld Mode, pointer functionality has been adapted to use Touch Screen." This means that on the Nintendo Switch Lite, the pointer functionality will work through the touch screen on the device. But this doesn't clear up how other motion controls will work on the base Switch Lite unit, if at all - does this mean other players will have to sit close and tap the screen to help out? Mario's spin ability also requires a physical gesture - how will this work on a device without detached Joy-Cons? IGN has contacted Nintendo to ask for further clarification on the game's motion controls. The Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection contains Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy and will launch on September 18 for Nintendo Switch. The package will be available for purchase until March 31, 2021. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jordan Oloman is a freelance writer for IGN. Follow him on Twitter.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer Footage Leaks

Alpha footage from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's multiplayer appears to have leaked online, revealing a number of details about the mode ahead of its planned reveal on September 9. The multiplayer footage appears to have been accidentally streamed on Twitch by user DougisRaw for around seven minutes, with a four-minute segment of that stream being captured and circulated online. There is a lot to glean from the footage of the 6v6 VIP Escort match, which takes place on a new map set in Miami, and follows DougisRaw as they attempt to stop the enemy VIP from reaching an extraction point. Here's everything we noticed:
  • The four starting classes are Stealth Ops, Pointman, Grenadier, Fire Support and Double Agent.
  • Weapons have five attachment slots and level-based progression.
  • Some weapons shown in the footage include the XM4, the AK-74u, the M16 and the Gallo SA12 Shotgun.
  • Every loadout has a Tactical, Lethal and Field Upgrade slot, which is filled by the 'Field Mic' equipment in this footage.
  • Perks include Tactical Mask, Flak Jacket, Quartermaster, Scavenger, Ninja and Ghost.
  • Every loadout has a 'Wildcards' slot that lets players modify their loadout. One custom class features a wildcard called 'Perk Greed' which appears to let players take two perks per section.
  • Another Wildcard called 'Danger Close' looks as if it provides double tactical and lethal grenades.
  • It looks like multiplayer maps open with a quick cinematic - in this case, the team jumps out of a van.
  • Players only have one life each and can be incapacitated and revived in VIP Escort - the match ends when a team wins four rounds.
  • Each player has a visual health bar that gets depleted as they're shot.
  • The two factions in this particular mission are known as the CIA and the DGI.
  • The round ends with a montage of the 'Best Play' of the game.

The Godfather Part III: Coppola's Re-edited Original Vision to be Released

Paramount Pictures has announced that a new edit and restoration of The Godfather: Part III will be given a limited theatrical release this December, followed by a home release. The revised version of Francis Ford Coppola's final film in The Godfather trilogy, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, has been retitled as Mario Puzo's The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone, acknowledging the film's original title that was rejected by Paramount in favour of a more simplified name. The studio said Thursday that the new cut achieves the original vision that Coppola and screenwriter Mario Puzo had for the last chapter in the Corleone saga. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-most-disappointing-third-movies-in-trilogies&captions=true"] "For this version of the finale, I created a new beginning and ending, and rearranged some scenes, shots, and music cues," Coppola confirmed in a statement. "With these changes and the restored footage and sound, to me, it is a more appropriate conclusion to The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II and I'm thankful to Jim Gianopulos and Paramount for allowing me to revisit it." In order to achieve the finest presentation for the upcoming release, Coppola's production company American Zoetrope and Paramount Pictures' restoration team spent six months searching through 300 cartons of negatives to pull out over 50 original takes to replace lower resolution opticals in the original negative, before working from a 4K scan to undertake the film's meticulous frame-by-frame restoration. "Mr. Coppola oversaw every aspect of the restoration while working on the new edit, ensuring that the film not only looks and sounds pristine, but also meets his personal standards and directorial vision," Andrea Kalas, the Senior Vice President of Paramount Archives, said about the new edit and restoration of The Godfather: Part III, which also boasts an enhanced audio track. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/26/justice-league-snyder-cut-all-the-known-differences-from-the-theatrical-version"] The original release of The Godfather: Part III hit theaters 16 years after The Godfather: Part II, and focused on Michael Corleone's efforts to free his family from crime and find a suitable successor to his empire. The film picked up seven Academy Award nominations, though it failed to win any, making it the only film in the trilogy to not pick up an Oscar. Despite being a box office hit, the third installment is generally considered to be the most disappointing film of the epic saga. Alternative cuts of films have become increasingly popular over the course of history. Just this year, it was announced that Sylvester Stallone is working on a director's cut of Rocky IV while Zack Snyder's long-fabled cut of Justice League is set to debut in four, hour-long chunks on HBO Max next year. Snyder's undertaking has reportedly cost upwards of $30M to produce, even though he's previously confirmed that there will be no reshoots with the original cast. Marvel's Eternals Will Have a Manga Influence and a Bollywood Dance Sequence

Marvel's Eternals will draw some influence from manga and will also feature a Bollywood dance sequence. In a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Chinese-born director Chloé Zhao discussed how she brought some of her childhood roots to the movie. Eternals has some of the stylized elements of manga., which are comics originating from Japan, since Zhao was a fan of them growing up. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=who-are-the-villains-kro-and-arishem-the-judge-from-marvels-eternals&captions=true"] "I have such deep, strong, manga roots," Zhao said. "I brought some of that into Eternals. And I look forward to using more of that marriage of East and West." Zhao said it was important to push thematic ideas like the marriage of East and West because Eternals is a movie about the history of humanity. In making this movie, Zhao asked herself how much bigger and further the movie could go after Avengers: Endgame because "(she's) not just making the film as a director" but "as a fan." Eternals cast member Kumail Nanjiani also revealed in the article that the Marvel film includes a Bollywood dance sequence with over 50 dancers in it. "When I walked onto the set and saw a huge group of brown people who were going to be in a Marvel movie, I felt such gratitude towards Chloé for creating the situation," said Nanjiani, whose Eternals character, Kingo, is a Bollywood star in the film. "The scene was full of joy." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/08/03/marvels-eternals-movie-explained"] Marvel Entertainment president Kevin Feige also said the film's LGBTQ relationship will be portrayed well on screen, calling it "inherent in the story and the makeup of the different types of Eternals." "I think it is extremely well done and I look forward to that level of inclusion in our future movies being less of a topic," Feige said. Feige also said that it was Zhao's Eternals pitch that sold him on the overall idea of proceeding with making the movie. "Her initial pitch to us was fascinating," Feige said. "And frankly one fo the reasons we moved forward on the movie was because of that vision that she brought to it."
