The Witcher: Monster Slayer AR Gameplay Revealed

CD Projekt has revealed gameplay for its upcoming mobile AR game, The Witcher: Monster Slayer, showing off melee combat, magic, and more. In a video on Twitter, we're shown a variety of Witcher monsters in real-life locations, as well as a digital silver sword being used to both attack and block. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/the-witcher-monster-slayer-gameplay-sneak-peek"] We also see how the game will place monsters on the real-world map, before being selected to fight. Inside combat, we see player health and stamina bars, an enemy health bar, and buttons to activate abilities. It appears you can use bombs that deal different damage types, and can draw Signs to activate the Witcher's brand of magic. There are also quieter activities - we see quests taken from NPCs, and investigation sequences. Ever wanted to look up close at a digital horse's head? Now's your chance! [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=great-witcher-3-mods-for-returning-players&captions=true"] Announced last week, The Witcher: Monster Slayer is a free-to-play AR game developed by Spokko, and will take into acccount weather and time of day to present you with your various quarry. Twitch Now Lets Anyone Host Amazon Prime Video Watch Parties

Twitch has rolled out its Watch Parties feature to all creators worldwide, allowing the platform's streamers and subscribers to watch Amazon Prime Video together. The Verge reports that anyone with an Amazon Prime Video account can now host a public Watch Party when accessing Twitch via a desktop, with other Amazon Prime Video account holders invited to participate and watch the stream. It adds, "Watch Parties is currently not available on mobile devices, but Twitch is working on it and expects to roll out said feature in the coming months." [caption id="attachment_2402491" align="alignnone" width="1502"]Image credit: Twitch Image credit: Twitch[/caption] It is also important to note that Amazon's library of movies and TV shows will be restricted based on an individual user's geographical location despite the feature now being globally accessible. Amazon's catalogue varies between regions, therefore the streaming of licensed content will be prohibited on titles that are unavailable in the host country. For instance, US residents will not be allowed to stream or watch UK-only titles, such as Star Trek: Picard. Twitch started rolling out the Watch Party feature in October of last year, allowing some creators to test out the function and come together with their viewers to watch, react, and discuss any movie or TV show that is available with their Amazon Prime or Prime Video subscription. Twitch made the feature more widely available to users in the US this year, before making the move to roll out Watch Parties to streamers and subscribers worldwide. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=amazons-the-boys-9-surprising-differences-from-the-comics&captions=true"] While movie theaters were forced to temporarily close their doors during the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, streaming services witnessed a surge in online traffic, as consumers searched for alternative ways to connect with family and friends. Some turned to Netflix Party, a Google Chrome extension that allows multiple users to stream a Netflix show or movie together at the same time. The global expansion of Twitch's new Watch Party feature offers additional entertainment options for those hosting or attending virtual gatherings, with Amazon originals like The Boys, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Homecoming all available to stream. Plus, Amazon Prime Video is due to debut the highly anticipated second season of The Boys on September 4, with a special three-episode premiere. For the latest on the streaming service, read our rundown of all the new movies and shows coming to Amazon Prime Video in September. Project Athia Studio Shows Off Its Impressive Open World Engine

Luminous Productions has shown off its impressive open-world Luminous Engine, which will presumably power Project Athia, Square Enix's upcoming exclusive PS5 game. The video arrives as Luminous Productions developers prepare to present a series of online sessions during the Computer Entertainment Developers Conference 2020. Lush environments are shown being built in the World Editor, with lakes and forests populating once-barren environments. The video is focused on the Luminous Engine's approach to procedural generation - the description notes that this proprietary environment builder has the power to fill open worlds "in a natural yet intentional way." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/03/luminous-engine-world-editor"] As well as an online session about procedural generation, the developers will present talks on collision-aware 3D path-finding and automating Quality Assurance using deep learning. We first learned about Project Athia when it was revealed during June's PS5 event. The game is yet to offer a release date but is being written by Rogue One's Gary Whitta and a team of A-list writers and is described as a "thrilling, other-worldly adventure." Rocket League Won't Require PS Plus or Nintendo Switch Online When It's Free-to-Play

Rocket League is going free-to-play soon and as part of this new initiative, Psyonix is no longer making PlayStation Plus or a Nintendo Switch Online subscription mandatory for online play. In a new community update detailing the upcoming changes coming to Rocket League when it goes free-to-play, Psyonix confirmed that PS4 and Nintendo Switch owners will not need a monthly or yearly subscription to play online. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/08/31/rocket-league-rocket-pass-trailer"] This exemption does not appear to extend to Xbox Live Gold, meaning Xbox One players will still need a subscription to the console’s digital services to play Rocket League online. Psyonix announced the move to free-to-play earlier this year. As the developer readies Rocket League to make that transition, there will be additional changes to how online content will work. For example, Rocket League seasons will be more streamlined and the Rocket Pass, Competitive Seasons, and upcoming Tournaments will all share the same schedule. That means when the Competitive Season ends, so will the Rocket Pass and Tournaments mode. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/08/31/rocket-league-rocket-pass-trailer"] There will also be a new, highest competitive rank called Supersonic Legend. The current highest rank, Grand Champion, will be split into three Ranks, just like the others, and players will likely find that their Rank will drift upwards when the new season begins because of the influx of new players joining at the start of free-to-play. No word yet on when Rocket League will officially go free-to-play other than it is happening “soon.” Check out IGN’s Rocket League review for our take on the competitive auto-soccer. Hot Toys Reveals Life-Size Venomized baby Groot Figure

What happens when you combine the cutest hero in the Marvel Universe with one of Spider-Man's worst enemies? You get the Venomized Baby Groot figure from Hot Toys, of course. Hot Toys has just revealed the newest addition to its ever-growing lineup of Marvel figures, and it's safe to say this is one of their most unusual releases ever. Inspired by the animated series Spider-Man: Maximum Venom, this life-size figure depicts Groot bonding with the Venom symbiote and becoming a fearsome yet still adorable little monster. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=this-venomized-baby-groot-figure-is-adorably-deadly&captions=true"] Venomized Baby Groot measures in at 25 cm (or about 9.8 inches) tall and includes several interchangeable pieces allowing collectors to switch between a fully Venomized Groot or a half-and-half approach. The figure also includes a trio of Venus fly trap accessories and a dynamic display base. Venomized Baby Groot isn't available for pre-order just yet, but it's slated for release in late 2021 or early 2022. Hot Toys has plenty other Spider-Man figures in the pipeline over the next couple years, inspired by both the PS4 game and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Several of those figures were on display at SideshowCon in July. It remains to be seen if the company will announce other Venomized Marvel figures to accompany Baby Groot. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/07/24/unboxing-rocket-and-groot-figures-from-hot-toys"] In other big Hot Toys news, the company is finally releasing an Ahsoka Tano figure as part of its new Star Wars: The Clone Wars line. Not to be outdone, Hasbro is releasing its own Clone Wars-inspired Ahsoka figure as part of a Walmart-exclusive wave of Star Wars: The Black Series figures. Mulan: How You Can Watch It When It Premieres This Week

With most theaters still closed and movies delayed due to Covid-19, there is a growing list of films that have opted for digital release. The live-action adaptation of Mulan is joining that list, and it will soon be available to stream on Disney Plus starting on September 4. However, Disney Plus subscribers won’t automatically get access to Mulan at launch, and this detail along with some other fine print has added a bit of confusion around its premiere. Here’s everything you need to know to watch Disney’s Mulan, including where you can watch it and when it will be available for free. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/mulan-loyal-brave-and-true-clip"]

Where Can I Watch Mulan 2020?

Currently, the only place you can stream Mulan is on Disney Plus. However, it will also be available for purchase on select platforms such as Google Play, the Apple App Store, and Roku. Other platforms have not yet been confirmed. Regardless of where you choose to watch Mulan, the price of entry will be $29.99/£19.99/$34.99 (AUD) in addition to $6.99/£5.99/$8.99 (AUD) — or the cost of a monthly Disney Plus subscription. The Disney Plus site states that as long as you have a Disney Plus subscription, you will continue to have access to Mulan and can watch it as many times as you like. Disney Plus is supported in several regions across the world, including Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Japan (among many others). Some regions that don’t support Disney Plus, like China, will be getting a theatrical release. Here’s the list of places you can watch Mulan (links will be added once the pages are live): [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=disneys-mulan-official-photos-from-the-live-action-remake&captions=true"]

What is Premiere Access on Disney Plus?

Premiere Access is essentially a one-time payment on top of the Disney Plus subscription to get access to Mulan.

When Can I Watch Mulan For Free?

If you don’t wish to spend more money on top of a subscription, Mulan will be available to all Disney Plus subscribers starting on December 4. For those without Disney Plus, it's technically not free since you still need to have a subscription to watch it, and unfortunately, a free trial offered directly from Disney Plus is currently not available. There are money-saving alternatives to consider, like Verizon's offer that includes 1 year of Disney Plus free with an unlimited data plan or the Hulu/Disney Plus/ESPN bundle for $12.99 (both in the US). You can also get six months free of Disney Plus when signing up with O2 in the UK, but all of these options still require you to spend money. Disney Plus also supports four different devices under each account (and they can all stream at the same time), so if you have a family member or good friend who is willing to share, that's an option too. Intel 11th Generation Processors Promises to Finally Bring Gaming to Ultrabooks

Ultrabooks and mainstream laptops are about to get way more powerful now that Intel is introducing its 11th Generation Tiger Lake processors. The headlining feature of these chips is the new integrated Iris Xe Graphics. They're designed specifically to challenge the Vega graphics on AMD's Ryzen 4 mobile processors. To demonstrate this Intel showed how an (unnamed) Intel 11th Gen processor was able to run Gears Tactics and Grid at almost twice the frame rate as AMD's 4800U processor. [caption id="attachment_2402244" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Intel Intel vs AMD running Gears Tactics[/caption] Intel 11th Generation processors are built on a 10nm architecture like the company's previous Ice Lake CPUs, but Team Blue has also introduced a new SuperFin design that promises to deliver higher speeds at lower power levels. On the flipside, Intel said some of its new processors will reach up to 4.0GHz boost clocks, which is impressive for the thin and light class laptops. Overall Intel is promising a 20% improvement in CPU performance and two times the graphical performance. tgl-live-blog-023 Aside from the boost in processing and graphical power, Intel's Tiger Lake processors also add support for Thunderbolt 4 and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, and PCIe Gen 4 support for SSDs. Intel also rebranded its Project Athena certification to a new Evo branding. Every laptop with this Evo badge promises to deliver more than nine hours of real-life usage, Wi-Fi 6 and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, and generally a high-quality experience overall. John Boyega Criticises Disney for Sidelining Non-White Star Wars Characters

Star Wars actor John Boyega has criticised Disney for the treatment of his character in the franchise, particularly in comparison to his white co-stars who he says were given all of the "nuances." In a new interview with GQ magazine, Boyega reflected on his time playing Finn, the ex-Stormtrooper who joined forces with the Resistance in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, as he spoke about Disney's marketing of the character and the way that he felt he had been portrayed to be "much more important" in the space saga than he actually was, especially compared to other characters. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/10/the-star-wars-saga-timeline-in-chronological-order-through-rise-of-skywalker"] "It's so difficult to manoeuvre," Boyega explained. "You get yourself involved in projects and you're not necessarily going to like everything. [But] what I would say to Disney is do not bring out a black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side. It's not good. I'll say it straight up." The actor also acknowledged how other people of colour in the cast had suffered the same treatment in the franchise, as he highlighted the experiences of Naomi Ackie, Kelly Marie Tran and Oscar Isaac, who he calls "a brother from Guatemala," explaining that their stories were sidelined in favour of giving "all the nuance" to their white co-stars. "Like, you guys knew what to do with Daisy Ridley, you knew what to do with Adam Driver," he said. "You knew what to do with these other people, but when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Boyega, you know f*** all. So what do you want me to say? What they want you to say is, 'I enjoyed being a part of it. It was a great experience...' Nah, nah, nah. I'll take that deal when it's a great experience. "They gave all the nuance to Adam Driver, all the nuance to Daisy Ridley. Let's be honest. Daisy knows this. Adam knows this. Everybody knows. I'm not exposing anything." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-upcoming-star-wars-movie&captions=true"] As extracts of the interview started to circulate on social media, Boyega encouraged people to read the article in its entirety to gain a clear understanding of his perspective. He tweeted: "These conversations and me sharing isn't about a witch hunt. It's about clarity to an anger that can be seen as selfish, disruptive and self indulgent. Obviously in hopes of better change. Bruh. In short. I said what I said. Love to you all seriously. Your support is amazing." Now that his time in the Star Wars franchise has drawn to a close, Boyega is looking forward to starring on-screen in Steve McQueen's upcoming anthology series, Small Axe, in which he portrays police officer and anti-racism reformer, Leroy Logan. Boyega noted how McQueen had been struck by his impassioned speech at the Black Lives Matter protest earlier this year, and that working with him on set is like being "given the chance to breathe." No Man's Sky Developer Hello Games Working on New, Large-Scale Project

No Man's Sky developer Hello Games has a portion of its team working on a "huge, ambitious" new project. In an interview with Polygon, studio founder Sean Murray explained that Hello Games is now made up of 26 people. 3 have been working on new "Hello Games short" The Last Campfire, with the remaining 23 split between working on new updates for No Man's Sky, and a brand new project, which Murray calls "a huge, ambitious game like No Man’s Sky.” He also made clear that it isn't a sequel. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/08/18/sean-murray-on-the-present-past-and-future-of-no-mans-sky"] Practically nothing is known about the new game, but Hello Games confirmed to IGN that it is "very early" in development. Murray is seemingly unsure about how much to discuss the game in advance, after No Man's Sky's controversial release (and eventual redemption): "I think about it a lot and I don’t know where I come down on it," he told Polygon. "There is a really positive thing about talking about your game a lot. Where you get people interested in it who wouldn’t have played it otherwise. [...] But I look back, having done a lot of different press opportunities and things like that. And I reckon about half of what we did — and a lot of where we had problems, I think, where we were naive — we didn’t really need to do and we would have had the same level of success, you know?” It seems like we'll have quite a wait for the new game, but Hello Games isn't done with No Man's Sky, with the developer telling IGN there was "plenty" more to come from the space exploration sandbox. The Last Campfire was released last week, and it seems likely that we'll see other Hello Games shorts - designed with a similar creative impetus as Pixar's shorts - come in future too. The Mandalorian: Season 2 Release Date Revealed

The Mandalorian's second season will officially be released on Disney+ on October 30, 2020. The announcement came from Twitter with some new title art of The Mandalorian himself and The Child (Baby Yoda!), and the words, "This is the day. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=an-adorable-gallery-of-baby-yoda&captions=true"] The Mandalorian's first season aired its final episode on December 27, 2019, and, in our review, we said "Every show needs time to find its footing in its first season, and The Mandalorian’s roughest edges - its wild shifts in tone, derivative standalone episodes, and clunky dialogue - are arguably exacerbated by the shortened episode order and weekly release schedule... But when the show is firing on all cylinders - as in its opening and closing run of episodes - it channels all the fun, escapism, and yes, earnest heart (or, if you prefer, occasional cheesiness) of the Original Trilogy." Season 1 aired its episodes weekly, and saw The Child / Baby Yoda take over our galaxy. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/03/the-mandalorian-season-1-review"] The Mandalorian's first season finale featured the return of a weapon with a major legacy in the Star Wars universe, the Darksaber. We've done a deep dive into the history of this weapon, which was previously owned by Star Wars: The Clone Wars' Bo-Katan Kryze, who will reportedly be played by Katee Sackhoff in season 2, and Star Wars Rebels' Sabine Wren. Season 2 of The Witcher started filming in London earlier this year, with a planned release sometime in 2021. However, the shoot was suspended back in March as Netflix paused filming on all of its films and TV shows in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Dead By Daylight Getting Next-Gen Release With Free Upgrades

Dead By Daylight is set to receive a visual overhaul ahead of its Holiday 2020 next-gen release, with a series of free updates coming to the game over the next year. Current-gen owners will also automatically be given a free upgrade to the next-gen versions of the game. The Realm Beyond project will upgrade the Dead by Daylight experience on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia with free updates that will address the game's "visuals, graphics, lighting, animations and more" More specifically, this means ongoing support for the game's introduction of Cross-Play, "more environmental elements in the Killing Grounds" and "more realistic modelling and texturing" for Dead by Daylight's characters, informed by the established lore. "Tens of thousands of assets" are set to be enhanced as part of the overhaul, and these visual improvements will be pushed to the game every six weeks in line with Dead by Daylight's current content roadmap. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/10/22/dead-by-daylight-stranger-things"] Having recently surpassed 30 million players, these updates arrive in service of "building up to a Dead by Daylight experience for the next generation of consoles," which will run at 4K 60 FPS and arrive later this year, during the Holiday 2020 launch window. Players who own Dead by Daylight on current generation consoles will be able to upgrade to the next-gen platform of their choice and keep all of their progression. Nintendo Switch eShop Gets Customer-Friendly Improvements

Nintendo Switch's eShop has changed its pre-order policy to allow customers to cancel without payment up to a week before release, and added some useful signalling about sales ending. Both changes have been made without much fanfare, although both benefit the customer. The pre-order policy, as confirmed by Nintendo of America's FAQ, replaces the previous system in which pre-orders were charged for immediately. Now, the charge won't go through until 7 days before the game's release, and can be cancelled freely at any time before that. It will be a welcome change for many - Norwegian and German consumer authorities had previously (and unsuccessfully) attempted to have Nintendo's original pre-order system deemed illegal in Europe. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/nintendo-eshop-the-download-august-2020-trailer"] As reported by Nintendo Life that change seems to have come alongside another new eShop feature, whereby games with a discount are marked with how much longer that discount will apply for. User wishlists, the Great Deals page, and the eShop homepage all now display time left discounted. Recently, we've heard reports that an updated Switch model could arrive during 2021, and will allegedly feature improved "interactivity" and a better quality display. Cyberpunk 2077: CD Projekt Red Clarifies the Game Won't Be 200GB

CD Projekt Red has clarified that Cyberpunk 2077 won't take up 200GB of hard-drive space. Global Community Lead Marcin Momot took to Twitter to address claims which originated on Reddit, where a fan had taken a screenshot of Cyberpunk 2077 from Nvidia's RTX 3000 GPU reveal event. A vista from the game is accompanied by a tag that mentions "200GB Games," which has led some to surmise that the game may take up 200GB of hard-drive space. "The game won't take up 200GB when installed," notes Momot. "You can expect the required HDD space to be on par with other modern titles." Momot didn't reveal exactly how big the game is, but he did note that system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 are "coming soon." Nvidia used the Cyberpunk screenshot as an example of a demanding game that would take advantage of its RTX IO technology, which lets the graphics card handle decompression in order to decrease the potential strain on your CPU and boost load times. In other Cyberpunk 2077 news, it was recently revealed that the game will feature free DLC on top of paid expansions. You can also check out the RTX Showcase trailer that debuted during Nvidia's conference to see how the game will take advantage of ray tracing technology.
