Horizon Forbidden West Release Date, Gameplay, and Everything Else We Know

Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to 2017’s Horizon: Zero Dawn, promises to continue the adventures of Aloy as she journeys across the post-post-apocalyptic U.S., fighting robot dinosaurs, and exploring sunken ruins. With PlayStation and Sony announcing the game at their June 2020 PlayStation 5 reveal event, the speculation train has officially left the station.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/18/everything-we-know-about-horizon-forbidden-west-so-far"]

We’ve gone ahead and rounded up everything we know about Horizon Forbidden West, including release date, story, new gameplay, and new machine creatures Aloy will encounter, and more.

Horizon: Forbidden West Release Date

Horizon Forbidden West is confirmed for the PS5 and Guerilla Games is “aiming” to release it in 2021. That’s all developer Guerilla Games has said about the sequel so far. That means it won’t be a release window game for the PlayStation 5, which is launching during the “holiday 2020” window.

Horizon Forbidden West Story: New Threats, New Locations

When we last left Aloy at the end of Horizon Zero Dawn, she had defeated the rampant A.I. HADES. Along the way, Aloy also learned the truth about the world: How a company named Faro Automated Solutions lost control of its army of military robots that could subsist on any biomass for fuel, and how Aloy is a clone of Dr. Elisabet Sobeck, the researcher in charge of “Project Zero Dawn” (a vast network of cloning facilities) and how GAIA, the A.I. system that was corrupted by HADES, was responsible for reseeding the earth after it was once again habitable -- and that’s just the Cliff Notes version. Aloy riding along a beach filled with red blight vines

In the reveal trailer, we see a new threat emerge, which Guerilla Games calls the “red blight.” It manifests as a moldy mass of red vines that can infect its way into lifeforms and the surrounding environment. Aloy finds a fox (a real one, not a robo-fox) that’s been infected and on death’s door before another, considerably larger creature interrupts her.

It’s currently unclear if the red blight infects robotic lifeforms rather than just organic, like the corruption that plagued the robots in the first game. The red blight is also seemingly responsible for the “supercell storms,” a chaotic swirl of wind and red lightning that covers the sky.

horizon forbidden west super cell storm

Aloy’s journey to address this new threat will evidently take her from Utah out to the west coast, specifically a post-post-apocalyptic San Francisco. In the reveal trailer, we see an underwater ruin resembling San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts, which is a mere eight-minute walk from the north bay coastline.

horizon forbidden west san francisco palace of fine arts

All that said, HADES was not fully destroyed by Aloy. Sylens (played by Lance Reddick), the former leader of the HADES-worshipping Eclipse organization and the deuteragonist of Horizon Zero Dawn, managed to contain a portion of HADES in a mysterious jar-like device and take it with him to an unknown desert location where a giant war machine lay dormant. There, Sylens told HADES he would discover who originally sent the signal to activate the malicious A.I. It’s still unclear if all the red blight plaguing the west is HADES’ doing, though. Sylens has also seemingly joined a new faction that’s fond of capturing and corrupting robots.

horizon forbidden west sylens

Other brief glimpses in the reveal trailer show that Aloy will at some point visit the Sierra Nevada mountains (where another dormant war machine rests) and the Embarcadero Ferry Building on San Francisco’s Pier. We also see Aloy dust off a sign reading “casino” in simplified Chinese, indicating we may visit Las Vegas, although it could be a part of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Another few shots show the rounded top of the mountains El Capitan and Half Dome in Yosemite, about 200 real-life miles east of San Francisco. A final shot gives us a sweeping view of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.

Horizon Forbidden West Gameplay

We haven’t seen any actual gameplay of Horizon Forbidden West so far, but a few images in the reveal trailer indicate some changes are possibly on the way. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/17/horizon-forbidden-west-guerrilla-talks"]

The most notable addition seems to be Aloy donning a breathing mask and diving beneath the waves of San Francisco’s waters. Aloy can be seen swimming between some seaweed and reeds before an alligator-like snapjaw swims overhead. Aloy appears to hide amongst the reeds, much like the tall grass that provided stealth in the first game, allowing the snapjaw to swim by unaware. It’s currently unclear how combat will work underwater, or if Aloy is fish food the moment she’s caught by a larger predator.

horizon forbidden west underwater swimming

We also see Aloy climbing a ludicrously steep cliffside. Some criticized Horizon Zero Dawn for only allowing players to climb certain stretches of rock, rather than allowing them to climb anything like in 2017’s Breath of the Wild. It’s unclear if Guerilla Games is shooting for more traversal options or if this was just meant to show off the great heights she’ll be reaching in her travels.

horizon forbidden west climbing

As for traversal options, we see Aloy once again riding a horse-like steed (probably a broadhead), but the trailer does show a new type of flying machine, dubbed “sunwings,” that resemble pterodactyls mixed with vultures. Guerilla hasn’t said whether or not you’ll be able to fly on these creatures in Forbidden West, but fans can certainly hope.

A final shot of Aloy facing down a tribe sporting corrupted and armored elephant-like robots may indicate that Guerilla Games is aiming for larger battles between factions of humans and machines, though we’ve yet to see anything of that nature yet, and Guerilla hasn’t confirmed anything of the sort.

Guerilla Games has also stated that due to the PlayStation 5’s computing power, there will be virtually no loading time when fast-traveling across the map, which the game’s director has stated will be a bit bigger than Zero Dawn’s.

New Creatures in Horizon Forbidden West

One of Horizon Zero Dawn’s biggest draws was its variety of robotic creatures, from the tyrannical thunderjaw, the towering tallnecks, to the aerial glinthawks and more. Some new creatures were briefly teased in Horizon Forbidden West’s reveal trailer.

Here we see the “shellsnapper,” resembling a massive tortoise with its powerful jaws and moss-covered backside. It appears to reside in swampy environments, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it show up across much of the coastal environments we’ll see throughout the game.

horizon forbidden west snap turtle

We also see the dormant remains of a “metal devil,” the immense machines that instigated the world-ending Faro plague. It’s unclear if we’ll see one in action, considering even one of these murderous machines would spell doom for the surrounding area. horizon forbidden west creatures metal devil

We briefly see a hologram of a dragon flying around Aloy in a desert environment, although it’s unclear if this is just a hologram of a folkloric illustration of a dragon or an actual robotic creature.

horizon forbidden west robots dragon

We can see Sylens and his new crew subduing boar-like robots for their seemingly nefarious means.

horizon forbidden west boar robot

The new “sunwings” can be seen flying above the San Francisco skyline. They’re definitely smaller than the Glinthawks that pursued Aloy in Zero Dawn, but it’s unclear if Aloy will be able to subdue and ride one.

horizon forbidden west sunwing robot creature

Lastly, we get a look at the “trumortusk,” an elephant-like robot, some of which have been overridden by a tribe of humans and outfitted with spiked armor. The scene of the tribe and their trumortusks preparing to charge Aloy echoes the memorable mumakil charge in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King during the battle of Pelennor Fields.

MTV Studios Revives Clone High With Original Creators

Another beloved animated sitcom is making a long overdue return to the air. MTV Studios is rebooting the short-lived Clone High, and creators Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Bill Lawrence are all returning. The new series will be overseen by Erica Rivinoja, who worked on the original Clone High, as well as South Park and Fox's Last Man on Earth. Rivinoja will serve as showrunner and also co-write the Clone High revival's pilot with Lord and Miller. clone-high For those who missed Clone High during its brief, 13-episode run in 2002 and 2003, the series revolves around a group of teenage clones of famous historical figures like Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, Joan of Arc and John F. Kennedy. While created by a sinister cabal of government agents hoping to harness the clones as military assets, the main characters spend most of their time navigating traditional teen problems like dating, studying, school elections, and the pressures of living up to their namesakes. All the while, the school's evil principal plots to cash in on his students by creating a lucrative theme park called "Cloney Island." While critically acclaimed, Clone High was canceled after one season, in part because of international outrage over the show's depiction of Gandhi.

Binge It! Clone High Is the Funniest High School Comedy You've (Probably) Never Seen

According to MTV's press release, the new Clone High will "re-imagine" the original series, no doubt updating that show's satire of early 2000's pop culture with a more 2020-inspired approach. This suggests the new version of Clone High won't follow up on the unresolved Season 1 cliffhanger, but instead reboot the series from square one. “We thrilled to reunite with Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Bill Lawrence to re-imagine this cult classic as we rapidly grow our portfolio of beloved and iconic adult animation series,” said Chris McCarthy, President of ViacomCBS' Entertainment and Youth Group. Clone High is the latest in a growing list of animated sitcoms being revived or rebooted for newer audiences. Comedy Central greenlit two new seasons of Beavis & Butt-Head and will also play host to the Daria spinoff Jodie. Other animated sitcom revivals include a new Boondocks series on HBO Max and Netflix's Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=abraham-lincolns-craziest-movie-and-tv-show-appearances&captions=true"] Lord and Miller are also hard at work on a sequel to 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Miller recently teased the "groundbreaking" new animation techniques being used to bring that sequel to life. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jesse is a mild-mannered staff writer for IGN. Every Video Game Movie and TV Series in Development Right Now

With Fallout getting a TV series on Amazon and Netflix developing a Cyberpunk 2077 anime, we thought it would be a good time to revisit the list of all the other video game movies and TV projects that have been announced, planned, or are currently in production right now. Only a handful of them will probably ever happen and only a fraction of those have actual release dates. We decided to round them all up anyway. For the purposes of this list, we classify a “video game movie” as an actual film adaptation of an existing video game, so something like Wreck-It Ralph (which is just a movie about video games) wouldn’t qualify. They don’t have to be faithful adaptations – they just have to be based on a real game. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-video-game-movie-in-development-almost&captions=true"] This gallery was compiled with the help of a number of resources, including IGN’s own news coverage, IMDB, and Den of Geek. Without Remorse

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/09/20/michael-b-jordan-to-star-in-rainbow-six-movies-"] Release Date: September 18, 2020 Michael B. Jordan will star as John Clark in two of Paramount’s planned Rainbow Six Siege movies, based on the Tom Clancy books Rainbow Six and Without Remorse. Without Remorse is scheduled for release in September 2020, and an ensemble-driven Rainbow Six sequel is currently planned.

Mortal Kombat

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=meet-the-cast-of-the-mortal-kombat-reboot-movie&captions=true"] Release Date: January 15, 2021 At one point New Line had a second sequel to 1995's Mortal Kombat in the works, but now the studio is rebooting the series with The Conjuring's James Wan as producer and Simon McQuoid directing. The cast includes Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson "Jax" Briggs, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero and Lewis Tan in an undisclosed role. Production wrapped in December 2019, suggesting the reboot should meet its January 2021 release date.

Tomb Raider 2

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/03/16/tomb-raider-7-biggest-differences-between-the-games-and-new-movie"] Release Date: March 19, 2021 Despite mediocre reviews for 2018's Tomb Raider, MGM and Warner Bros. seem happy enough with the film's box office performance to move forward with a sequel. New writer Amy Jump is penning the script, and Alicia Vikander has expressed an interest in reprising the role of Lara Croft.

Uncharted

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/14/tom-holland-says-uncharted-has-a-solution-to-the-video-game-movie-problem"] Release Date: July 16, 2021 Sony's Uncharted movie has gained and lost six directors since being announced in 2009. Bumblebee's Travis Knight is the latest director to walk away from the adaptation, citing scheduling conflicts. The good news is that Tom Holland is still slated to star as adventurer Nathan Drake, with Mark Wahlberg playing his mentor Sully. Venom's Ruben Fleischer is the latest director rumored to be up for directing the film, which Holland says will draw inspiration from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

Minecraft: The Movie

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/04/16/minecraft-movie-gets-2022-release-date"] Release Date: March 4, 2022 Peter Sollett (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) will direct the Minecraft movie, which will tell the story of a teenage girl trying to save the Overworld from an Ender Dragon.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka will compose the score. [poilib element="articleSubHeader" parameters="label=Movies%20Without%20Confirmed%20Release%20Dates"] [poilib element="accentDivider"]

Assassin’s Creed 2

A sequel to the first Assassin’s Creed movie was already in the works during the production of the first, but information about the follow-up is minimal.

Borderlands

The Borderlands movie was announced back in 2016, to be produced by Avi and Ari Arad and written by Aaron Berg. While news was slow for several years after, Lionsgate surprised fans in February 2020 by announcing Hostel's Eli Roth will direct the movie, with Chernobyl's Craig Mazin penning a new screenplay draft. No cast members or release date have been revealed, but the movie does seem to be a top priority for the studio.

Call of Duty

There isn’t just one Call of Duty movie in development – its sequel is already being planned too. Sicario 2 director Stefano Solima is set to direct the first one.

Carmen Sandiego

Jane the Virgin-star Gina Rodriguez is set to play Carmen Sandiego in both a live-action film she is also producing, and an animated TV series produced by Netflix.

Centipede

MoviePass Films has partnered with Atari to produce films based on both Centipede and Missile Command. MoviePass' shutdown in 2019 casts the future of this project in doubt.

Contra

Arcade run and gun classic Contra is getting a live-action film in China, produced by Beijing Starlit Movie and TV Culture.

The Division

Deadpool 2 director David Leitch is set to helm this adaptation of the Ubisoft game, which will star Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal in leading roles.

Duke Nukem

Gearbox Software has reportedly teamed up with the Assassin’s Creed movie producer Jean-Julien Baronnet to adapt Duke Nukem into a movie. John Cena is rumored to star.

Fallout

Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are producing a Fallout series for Amazon. It's unknown whether the series will be an adaptation of one of the games or tell an original story in this post-apocalyptic universe.

Fatal Frame

The popular survival horror series built around ghost photography is reportedly being adapted by Silent Hill director Christophe Gans.

Firewatch

In 2016 it was announced that Campo Santo’s Firewatch was going to be adapted into a movie, but we’ve heard nothing since.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

A Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is currently in the works from Blumhouse, but production recently hit a snag after the greenlit screenplay was rejected by Five Nights creator Scott Cawthon. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/10/05/jason-blum-five-nights-at-freddys-movie-coming-pretty-soon"]

Fruit Ninja

In 2016 it was reported that a ‘live-action family comedy’ based around Halfbrick’s Fruit Ninja is in the works, but we’ve heard nothing since.

Gears of War

A Gears of War film under Universal was first announced back in 2016, and new screenwriter F. Scott Frazier (Collide, xXx: Return of Xander Cage) was more recently tapped to write the movie. Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista admitted he considered playing Marcus Fenix in a Gears of War movie a "dream role. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/12/07/we-cast-the-gears-of-war-movie-unlocked-highlight"]

Half-Life

A movie based on Half Life was meant to be in the works from JJ Abrams, but it seems to be subject to the Half Life 3 curse.

Halo

While a planned movie adaptation of the original Halo never materialized, the franchise is now being adapted as a series at Showtime. Pablo Schreiber has been cast as Master Chief, while Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders) will direct and produce the series. Last we heard, Halo was planned for a spring 2021 debut, though it remains to be seen if that timetable will hold.

Heavy Rain

First announced in 2006, the rights to a Heavy Rain were bought by two former New Line executives. It’s safe to say this one will probably never see the light of day, though it was never announced it was officially canceled.

Just Cause

Derek Kolstad (the creator of the John Wick franchise) scripted this big screen adaptation of the Square Enix/Avalanche video game franchise. Constantin Film (the Resident Evil films) and Prime Universe (the Hitman films) are producing this action flick, which aims to kick-off a new film franchise around the game series' iconic protagonist Rico Rodriguez.

Just Dance

Just Dance is going to be a video game. In January 2019 it was announced that Screen Gems will develop a film version of Ubisoft’s annual video game, somehow.

Kane & Lynch

This one was first announced in 2007, and was originally set to star Jamie Foxx and Bruce Willis. The last we heard anything around this movie was in 2013 when THR reported Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel were in talks for the two leads.

The Last of Us

The Last of Us movie is in “development hell”, according to the game’s director Neil Druckmann, who wrote the original script for Screen Gems. In 2018 Druckmann said that if it ever went ahead, he hopes that the studio doesn’t use his script. Instead, HBO is adapting The Last of Us as a series, with Chernobyl's Craig Mazin overseeing the project and Druckmann both writing and producing. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/05/the-last-of-us-tv-show-in-the-works-at-hbo-ign-now"]

Mass Effect

In 2010, it was announced that former Marvel Studios head Avi Arad would be adapting Mass Effect for the big screen for Warner Bros. Legendary Pictures picked up the deal in 2011, but divorced from Warner Bros. in 2013. The last we heard about this was when BioWare head Casey Hudson said it was still in the works in March of that year.

Mega Man

In late 2013, it was announced that Capcom and 20th Century Fox would be making a movie based on the Mega Man franchise. It will be written and directed by Catfish’s Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.

Metal Gear Solid

Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct this adaptation of Konami's long-running action game franchise as rooted in Hideo Kojima's lore, but not a straight-up adaptation of the story from the games. A script was already completed, but the movie doesn't yet have a date.

Metro 2033

The movie adaptation of Metro 2033 is currently on hold, after screenwriter F.Scott Frazier butted heads with Metro creator Dmitry Glukhovsky over the film’s setting. Who knows where it will go from here.

Missile Command

The last we heard about a Missile Command movie was 2016, after it was announced Atari was teaming up with Emmett/Furla/Oasis films to spin the 1980 arcade game into a big screen spectacle.

Monument Valley

Paramount Pictures has a Monument Valley adaptation in the works, and animator Patrick Osborne (Big Hero 6) is due to direct the live-action/CGI hybrid.

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu 2

Legendary Pictures announced a sequel to Detective Pikachu in January 2019, two months before the original hit theaters. While there's been little news since, the strong performance of the first movie gives us no reason to assume the sequel isn't still a top priority. 22 Jump Street's Oren Uziel is penning the screenplay.

Portal

Like Half-Life, a movie based on Portal was meant to be in the works from JJ Abrams. The status of this is anyone’s guess.

Rabbids

A movie based on Ubisoft’s Rabbids franchise was first announced in 2015, as a collaboration between Ubisoft and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Robot Chicken’s Matthew Senreich, Tom Sheppard and Zeb Wells were set to write the script.

Resident Evil

The Resident Evil film franchise is due to be rebooted by director Johannes Roberts (47 Meters down). The Conjuring's James Wan will produce the first of a planned six (!) movie series. That first movie was slated to begin production in 2019, though there's been little news since Roberts signed on.

RollerCoaster Tycoon

We haven’t heard anything about the RollerCoaster Tycoon movie since 2010, when it was reported that Harald Zwart (the Karate Kid remake) would be heading up the film for Sony Pictures Animation.

Shinobi

Scott Pilgrim producer Marc Platt was poised to adapt Shinobi to the big screen back in 2016. “With Shinobi, we hope to make a film that honors the essence of the games,” Platt said at the time.

Silent Hill Sequel

Silent Hill director Christophe Gans is reportedly interested in returning to the franchise, though whether it'll serve as a direct sequel to the previous movies or a standalone project remains to be seen.

The Sims

It was back in 2007 that we heard a Sims movie was in the works with 20th Century Fox. We’ve heard nothing since, so it’s possible that the project is long dead.

Sleeping Dogs

A Sleeping Dogs adaptation was confirmed to be in development in 2017, with radio silence since, Donnie Yen confirmed it was still happening on his Instagram account in 2018.

Super Mario: The Movie

Nintendo and animation studio Illumination teamed up, with Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri co-producing a CG-animated take on Nintendo's most popular character due out in 2022. Universal Studios, Nintendo's partner for Mushroom Kingdom theme park attractions, will distribute the film.

Tetris

In 2016, Tetris producer Larry Kasanoff confirmed he was planning a sci-fi trilogy around the iconic puzzle game. How that will actually work is still up for debate.

Watch Dogs

A Watch Dogs movie was announced in 2013, but it has since lingered in development hell, despite a brief announcement in 2016 that it was “still happening.”

Werewolves Within

Ubisoft’s social VR deception game Werewolves Within is getting a big-screen adaptation, with Mishna Wolff writing the script.

Hyper Scape, a New FPS Battle Royale, Announced by Ubisoft

Ubisoft has fully revealed Hyper Scape, the FPS battle royale game that has been teased (and partially leaked) over the last few days. Hyper Scape is a free-to-play first-person battle royale coming to PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Ubisoft have targeted a Summer 2020 release, starting with a short closed ‘Technical Test’ on PC that will run July 2 - 7, with more ‘phases’ to follow in the build up to full release. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/02/hyper-scape-preview"] Set in a VR world called the Hyper Scape, the game focuses on a sport called Crown Rush, in which 100 players split into squads of 3 compete for victory. Wins can be claimed in the usual last-team-standing manner, or by claiming a crown objective in the final phase of the match and holding onto it for 45 seconds. Unlike most battle royales, Hyper Scape’s stand-out feature is that it takes place on an entirely urban map. This city - clearly influenced by Paris - is also littered with jump pads to allow for fast-paced vertical movement. The game is also connected to Twitch to allow spectators a level of influence over games and earn rewards just by watching. During the technical test viewers will be able to vote on in-game events, such as giving all players unlimited ammo. In the full game, viewers will also be able to unlock battle pass progression by watching people stream Hyper Scape, and even join the squad of their favourite streamers. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=hyper-scape-screenshots&captions=true"] The technical test, available on PC from today, features nine different weapons and nine ‘hacks’; special abilities such as a teleport and an invisibility cloak that can help give players an edge. The technical test also features a 10-tier battle pass for free, and anything earned from it will be carried over into the full release. To get in and play during this short period, you'll need to watch Hyper Scape streams on Twitch and wait for a Twitch Drop, which will then grant access to the technical test servers. For more on Hyper Scape, check out our hands-on preview of the technical test, which goes in-depth on its vertical map, new approach to death, and how it’s a battle royale without a shrinking circle. My Friend Pedro TV Series from John Wick Creator Confirmed

My Friend Pedro will be adapted into an R-rated TV series by the creator of John Wick. The show will be a half-hour dramedy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Derek Kolstad, the writer of the first two John Wick movies and a co-writer of the third, will write the series and serve as an executive producer. The uncredited co-director of the first John Wick and director of Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw, David Leitch, will also executive produce the project. The game tells the story of a person who wakes up in a butcher shop where a banana named Pedro tells them about the secret and nasty operations of the butcher shop. The banana then teaches the player to commit murder. The creator of My Friend Pedro, Victor Ã…gren, said the game was inspired by the works of Kolstad and Leitch and it's a "dream come true" to see them adapt his game. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/06/17/7-things-that-inspired-my-friend-pedro"] "It's hard to find the words to describe the journey this game has taken," Ã…gren said in a statement. "'A dream come true' would be one way to put it - but in truth I could have never in a million years even began to imagine things to work out the way they have. The work of both Derek Kolstad and David Leitch (all the way back to his stunt days on films like The Matrix) has been a huge influence on shaping My Friend Pedro. To later find them attached to a TV-adaptation of the game boggles my mind. There must be something bigger at play here. As a solo developer tucked away in a small corner of the world, it really makes me think that as long as you create from the right place the result can reach even as far as the giants of Hollywood. Anything is possible and I truly can't wait to see what's next!" The company behind the My Friend Pedro series is the same behind the recently announced Disco Elysium TV series adaptation. Devolver Digital Co-Founder Mike Wilson is happy to see indie games getting the Hollywood treatment. “Major players in Hollywood have finally taken notice to the amazingly rich original worlds created by independent developers from around the world, especially games like the ones Devolver works on that don’t have to round off the edges for a mainstream audience,” Wilson said in a statement. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=6-video-games-that-should-be-netflix-shows&captions=true"] Kolstad said back in May that he was pitching a My Friend Pedro series as well as an adaptation of the 2017 indie game Bendy and the Ink Machine. My Friend Pedro was first released on PC and Switch in June 2019 and was later ported to Xbox One and PS4. In IGN's review of the game, we said, "Like the John Woo movies that it successfully emulates, My Friend Pedro is all about the action – and that action is excellent." [poilib element="accentDivider"] Petey Oneto is a freelance writer for IGN who is already dreamcasting Lance Reddick in the role of the banana.

Fallout TV Show In the Works at Amazon From Westworld Creators

Amazon Studios has just announced a Fallout TV series from Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy serving as producers.

Variety reports that Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are developing the Fallout show at Amazon based on the popular Bethesda video game RPG franchise.

Bethesda Game Studios will be involved with the development of the show and series director Todd Howard will serve as executive producer on the show.

"Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time. Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends. So we're incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios," said Joy and Nolan in a statement.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-fallout-review&captions=true"] "Over the last decade, we looked at many ways to bring Fallout to the screen," said Todd Howard in a statement. "But it was clear from the moment I first spoke with Jonah and Lisa a few years ago, that they and the team at Kilter were the ones to do it right."

Fallout is a video game RPG series set in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of a nuclear war. Bethesda purchased the Fallout IP from Interplay in 2007 and turned the isometric RPG series into a first-person RPG with Fallout 3. Bethesda has since gone to create Fallout 4 and Fallout 76.

Plot details or casting haven't been revealed, so it's unclear if Nolan and Joy are creating an adaptation of one of Bethesda's Fallout games, or a new series set within Bethesda's universe.

Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito Will Star in a Mystery Game Project

Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito will appear in an upcoming video game but he isn't able talk about it just yet - although he thinks it will be "huge". Esposito spoke with Collider recently about how playing Gus Fring on Breaking Bad changed his life and broached a number of topics in the interview. He eventually touched on motion capture and that style of acting for a big upcoming video game. "This video game I did, which is going to be huge — can't mention it," Esposito said. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=next-gen-buzzwords-explained&captions=true"] After being asked about how Epic Games' Unreal Engine is being used to film The Mandalorian, Esposito wouldn't say if that technology is what's being used in this video game, although he did say his part with this game included a "new style of acting." Esposito provided the voice and motion capture for The Dentist in PayDay 2 so it'd be odd for him to be referring to motion capture when he said "new style of acting." It could be actually be a new style of acting, separate from motion capture as well. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/18/the-biggest-ps4-and-ps5-games-of-2020"] The big video game Esposito is featured in is seemingly unannounced at this time, but there are still plenty of opportunities for this game to be revealed this year, assuming the reveal is set to happen in 2020. Esposito would make a great Far Cry villain considering his background in villainous characters and Ubisoft does have its Ubisoft Forward digital event coming on July 12 where a Far Cry game could possibly be announced. Perhaps his character from The Mandalorian will be making an appearance in EA's upcoming Star Wars: Squadron. Microsoft also has its first-party studio-focused event coming this month and it's possible Esposito could be playing a character in one of those games. There's also the possibility that this game featuring Esposito is not going to be revealed anytime soon. Only time will tell - but we'll let you know as soon as we know more. Alien vs Predator vs Iron Man? Marvel Comics Teases New Stories

The Alien and Predator franchises have been a mainstay in the comic book industry for decades, and now they've both found a new home. IGN can exclusively reveal that Marvel Comics has acquired the rights to both Alien and Predator, paving the way for a new line of comics set in this cinematic sci-fi universe. While Marvel isn't ready to reveal specific titles or creative teams yet, we can debut a pair of incredible teaser images drawn by Batman artist David Finch. First up, here's Finch's take on Alien's "Big Chap" Xenomorph: [caption id="attachment_2374999" align="aligncenter" width="1000"]Alien art by David Finch. (Image Credit: Marvel) Alien art by David Finch. (Image Credit: Marvel)[/caption] Then, feast your eyes on Finch's Predator, as the artist shows what might happen if one of these elite hunters targeted the Avengers. [caption id="attachment_2374998" align="aligncenter" width="1000"]Predator art by David Finch. (Image Credit: Marvel) Predator art by David Finch. (Image Credit: Marvel)[/caption] To be clear, the Predator teaser isn't meant to suggest the two franchises will be integrated into the Marvel Universe (as was the case when Marvel reacquired the Conan license in 2018). Marvel's new comics will instead expand on the characters and settings of the various Alien and Predator movies. Still, it's always possible fans will see some sort of Alien vs. Predator vs. Avengers crossover down the road. Unsurprisingly, Finch had a blast rendering these two teaser images, telling IGN, "Alien and Predator are the two of the most identifiable, iconic characters of all time, and I love them for that. But mostly, it’s being fortunate enough to be a kid when they were new. I’ve seen every movie they’ve ever been in, and I cannot wait to see them wreaking havoc in the Marvel Universe. I drew my pictures of them with a massive smile on my face.” Dark Horse Comics has been publishing Alien and Predator stories since 1988 and 1989, respectively, but it appears 2020 will mark the end of that arrangement. The move isn't necessarily surprising given that both properties, like Marvel itself, now fall under the Disney umbrella. The Star Wars comic book line underwent a similar transition when it shifted from Dark Horse to Marvel in 2015 and Marvel kicked off a new line of comics as part of Disney's revamped Star Wars timeline. Similarly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer shifted from Dark Horse to BOOM! Studios in 2018, paving the way for a rebooted Buffy universe. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=star-wars-how-marvel-continues-the-story-of-the-empire-strikes-back&captions=true"] “There’s nothing more thrilling than a story that will keep you at the edge of your seat, and Alien and Predator have delivered that time and time again!" said Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski in a statement to IGN. "I can clearly remember where I was when I saw each of these modern masterpieces for the first time, and reveling in how both masterfully weave extraterrestrial dread and drama into some of the most iconic scenes we’ve ever seen on film. And it’s that legacy that we’re going to live up to!” “As a visual medium, comics are the perfect place to build on those moments, and we here at Marvel are honored to begin telling these stories for fans everywhere,” added Cebulski. “As our release schedule continues to return, we can’t wait to share more in the coming months!” Editor Jake Thomas said, “The incredible legacies of both franchises offer some of the most compelling and exciting worldbuilding in all of science fiction. It is a thrill and an honor to be able to add to that mythology and continuity with all-new stories set within those universes.” Stay tuned to IGN for more on the future of Alien and Predator at Marvel. With Comic-Con@Home taking place July 22-26, we may learn more in just a few weeks. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/05/13/alien-covenant-why-the-xenomorphs-were-created-spoilers"] In other Alien news, director Ridley Scott recently revealed he has plans for a third prequel movie exploring the origin of the Xenomorph eggs seen in the original film. NBA 2K21 Current-Gen Release Date Revealed, Next-Gen Version $10 More Expensive

NBA 2K21 will be released on current-generation platforms on September 4, 2020, and while it won't arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X until Holiday 2020, it is being built from the ground-up for the next-gen systems. In addition, all versions of NBA 2K21 will offer a special Mamba Forever Edition that honors the late Kobe Bryant and his "lifelong pursuit of victory and legacy in the sport of basketball." Furthermore, the standard PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of NBA 2K21 will cost $69.99 USD, a $10 increase over the current-generation platforms and that makes NBA 2K21 the first next-gen game to commit to that price point. The UK sees a £5 increase, from £59.99 to £64.99. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=nba-2k21-current-and-next-gen-cover-art-kobe-bryant-damian-lillard-and-zion-williamson&captions=true"] NBA 2K21 will not support Xbox Smart Delivery or a similar service on PlayStation 5, meaning there will not be a free upgrade to next-gen if you purchase the game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. However, if players purchase the $99.99 USD Mamba Forever Edition, they will get the next-gen version when it is released at no extra cost. The Mamba Forever Edition will include the Kobe Bryant Digital Collection that includes special MyPlayer Shoes and Jerseys, a Sapphire Kobe MyTEAM Card, and much more. We asked a NBA 2K spokesperson about Xbox Smart Delivery, and they said "It's something we're interested in, but NBA 2K21 will not support Xbox Smart Delivery." The next-gen version of NBA 2K21 will offer "unbeatable graphic fidelity, two second load speeds, new gameplay features, and expanded game modes." In addition, NBA 2K21 will have "MyTEAM Cross-Progression and a Shared VC Wallet within the same console family." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/11/nba-2k21-reveal-trailer-ps5-reveal-event"] While Kobe will grace the cover of the Mamba Forever Editions, the Portland Trail Blazers' Damian Lillard and the New Orleans Pelicans' Zion Williamson will be on the covers of the standard versions for current-generation and next-gen platforms, respectively.
“Each of our cover athletes represent different eras of the game of basketball – Damian Lillard dominates the court today, Zion Williamson is a standard bearer for the next generation of NBA superstar and what more could be said about Kobe?,” stated Alfie Brody, Vice President of Global Marketing at NBA 2K. “Three athletes representing the current, future and storied history of the game. Today’s exciting announcement is just the first of many for NBA 2K21; it’s going to be a huge year for basketball fans and NBA 2K gamers.”
NBA 2K21, which was first revealed at the PlayStation 5 reveal event, will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia on September 4, 2020. It will arrive as a launch title for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in Holiday 2020. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 Producer Teases 'Groundbreaking Art'

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 producer Christopher Miller has praised the "groundbreaking art techniques" being used on the animated sequel. Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Miller shared a few tantalizing teasers about the art design and animation style of Miles Morales' next adventure, saying the new techniques being implemented will make 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse look "quaint." Christopher Miller on Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse 2 "The development of new groundbreaking art techniques being done for the next Spider-Verse movie are already blowing me away," Miller admitted. "It's going to make the first movie look quaint." The film has an extended production schedule due to its lengthy animation process, which means that the Spider-Verse sequel won't be web-slinging into theatres until 2022, four years after the release of the first film. In fact, Sony recently pushed back its release from April 8, 2022, to October 7, 2022. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/12/14/spider-man-into-the-spider-verse-end-credits-scene-explained"] The original Spider-Verse movie won the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Animated Movie in 2019, and was also named IGN's Movie of the Year in 2018. The film received high praise for its unique art style, with IGN referring to the film as a "visual experience unlike anything we've seen before," thanks to its "vibrant colours, a few KAPOWS, and some actual thought bubbles sprinkled in for dramatic effect." Since Spider-Verse's release, producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have signed a five-year deal with Sony Pictures TV to oversee Sony's Marvel TV universe, with Sony reportedly considering a Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse TV show at one time. Fortunately, our friendly neighborhood IGN writers have put together a breakdown of every Spider-Man-centric film currently in the works to keep track. Maid of Sker's Terrifying Welsh Survival Horror Releases This Month

Maid of Sker, a new first-person survival horror from Wales Interactive, releases July 28. It's based on the less-explored topic of Welsh folklore, and you can check out some chilling gameplay footage in the trailer below.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/30/maid-of-sker-official-gameplay-trailer"]

Fusing Welsh folklore with Gothic British horror, Maid of Sker sees you attempt to survive an encounter with the Quiet Ones; bag-headed horrors that can hear your every move and even, seemingly, your breathing. Covering your mouth is mandatory to get past some of these villains, but the gameplay reveals that sonic weaponry in the form of a sound pulse-emitting orb will help keep the Quiet Ones at bay.

Releasing on Steam, PS4, and Xbox One in digital and physical forms, Maid of Sker will be available to pre-order from July 21 and buy from July 28. Wales Interactive are the publisher behind interactive movie/game hybrids like The Complex and Late Shift, and more traditional games like Soul Axiom.

Halo Fans Think Mega Bloks Toys May Have Spoiled a Halo Infinite Plot Point

A series of Halo Infinite Mega Bloks toys have surfaced, with some fans alleging that the designs may have spoiled one of the upcoming game's plot points. Potential spoilers ahead for Halo Infinite! [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/24/halo-infinite-teaser-trailer"] As spotted by user Kittyrules808 on Reddit, one of the images found on the Mega Construx Halo webpage (which, at time of publish, is down for maintenance) shows an enemy from the game with a peculiar helmet on their pauldron: r4oojmbvw9851 The brute-looking character seen above (who could be part of Infinite's recently confirmed antagonist legion, The Banished) seemingly has Jameson Locke's helmet attached to his shoulder there. Locke was a new protagonist in Halo 5: Guardians who was believed to be very much alive before this image surfaced. Eurogamer managed to snap up some of the images before the Mega Bloks site was taken down, and noticed that this brute's name is apparently Hyperious. Other details revealed include a new vehicle called a Skiff and a gigantic Pelican playset, featuring John 117 and The Pilot who brings him back online, who you may remember from the game's E3 trailer last year. It's food for thought for those of you champing at the bit for more Halo news. We'll hear more about Infinite during Microsoft's upcoming July Xbox Series X showcase, where it has been confirmed to appear. HBO's Lovecraft Country: Release Date and Poster Revealed

The premiere date of HBO's Lovecraft Country has been revealed in a creepy new poster for the upcoming supernatural horror series from executive producers Misha Green, Jordan Peele, and J.J. Abrams. HBO has announced that Lovecraft Country will debut on its premium cable network on Sunday, August 16. The series premiere will also be available to stream on HBO Max shortly after airing, with all subsequent episodes in the show's ten-episode run being added to the platform each week. [caption id="attachment_2375056" align="alignnone" width="810"]Image credit: HBO Image credit: HBO[/caption] A poster for Lovecraft Country was unveiled on HBO's Twitter account for the highly anticipated series, which is based on Matt Ruff's bestselling novel of the same name. The grainy one-sheet depicts a lone car on a desolate road that has some rogue tentacles ominously reaching out onto the driver's path. "Be careful what you search for," warns the tagline printed above the chilling image. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/05/hbos-lovecraft-country-teaser-trailer"] The subversive horror-drama follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he joins up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father Montrose (Michael Kenneth Williams). Their search-and-rescue turns into a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the monstrous creatures that could be ripped from an H.P. Lovecraft paperback. Bill Carraro, Yann Demange, Daniel Sackheim, and David Knoller serve as additional executive producers on the series, which stars an ensemble cast of Jurnee Smollett, Jonathan Majors, Aunjanue Ellis; Abbey Lee, Jada Harris, Wunmi Mosaku, and Michael Kenneth Williams.
