Star Wars: Another Iconic Character Gets Frozen in Carbonite

A generation of Star Wars fans were traumatized by seeing Han Solo frozen in carbonite and carted away by that bounty hunting jerkwad Boba Fett. But now we know Han wasn't the only Original Trilogy favorite to suffer that ignominious fate. Read on to find out what other iconic Star Wars hero met the wrong end of a carbonite freezing chamber, but beware of spoilers for Marvel's Star Wars #3 ahead! [poilib element="accentDivider"] [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=top-10-best-star-wars-movie-moments&captions=true"] The latest issue of Marvel's flagship Star Wars series (which was recently relaunched with a new post-Empire Strikes Back setting) shows what happens when Luke, Leia and Lando make the very questionable decision to return to Cloud City in the wake of the Empire's takeover. The previous issue showed Luke having a vision of a mysterious, hooded figure catching his lightsaber. Luke wants to reclaim his lost weapon and make sense of that strange vision. Lando has his own reasons for returning home. After sweet-talking his way through Cloud City's security, Lando journeys to the depths of the city in search of his old friend Lobot. Lobot was captured during the Empire's invasion of Cloud City and is now plugged directly into the city's computer systems. Fortunately, that gives Lando just the opening he needs to turn the tables on the city's Imperial occupiers. He unleashes a cloud of toxic Tibanna gas waste, hoping to distract the Empire long enough for him to free Lobot, rally his other friends, and escape. The plan works, for a few minutes anyway. [caption id="attachment_2309922" align="aligncenter" width="1859"]Art by Jesus Saiz. (Image Credit: Marvel Comics) Art by Jesus Saiz. (Image Credit: Marvel Comics)[/caption] Luke's return to Cloud City is less successful. Still haunted by memories of battling Darth Vader, Luke makes his way to the bottom of the shaft where his lightsaber fell, only to discover a massive pile of debris and a group of pesky Ugnaughts. Tracking down his lightsaber is clearly going to be the Star Wars equivalent of finding a needle in a haystack. However, Leia definitely fares the worst on this particular mission. She makes her way to the chamber where Han was frozen, hoping to figure out how to activate the decarbonization process that can revive him. Before she can finish her reconnaissance, Leia is spotted and stun-blasted by patrolling Stormtroopers. Following Darth Vader's strict orders, they freeze their new captive in carbonite in preparation to deliver her to an Imperial prison. [caption id="attachment_2309921" align="aligncenter" width="925"]Art by Jesus Saiz. (Image Credit: Marvel Comics) Art by Jesus Saiz. (Image Credit: Marvel Comics)[/caption] In a cruel twist of fate, Leia now finds herself in the exact same predicament as Han. We're assuming Leia won't stay frozen nearly as long. But then again, with how little we actually know about this lost period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, we can't take anything for granted. In other big Star Wars news, Lucasfilm recently revealed The High Republic, a new publishing initiative aimed at exploring an era 200 years before the events of The Phantom Menace. Here's a full breakdown of The High Republic's story and a look at why some fans think it's introducing the next Baby Yoda. Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope Gets First Details and Release Window

Details of Supermassive Games' next game in the Dark Pictures Anthology, Little Hope, have been revealed alongside a release window. The first Dark Pictures Anthology game, Man of Medan, came out in August last year, and players that made it to the end were treated to a small teaser of Little Hope. That teaser ended with the release year of 2020 and that was the last we heard of this next game in the anthology series. Supermassive Games has now released more info about the upcoming title, and it seems players can expect to traverse an abandoned town this summer. "Trapped and isolated in the abandoned town of Little Hope, four college students and their professor must escape the nightmarish visions that relentlessly pursue them through an impenetrable fog," Supermassive Games CEO Pete Samuels said in an update. "As they journey through the town looking for a means of escape, they must understand the meaning of these events, the root of evil, and how it is directly connected to them." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/27/the-dark-pictures-anthology-from-man-of-medan-to-little-hope-trailer"] As you can see in the trailer, Little Hope appears to lean more toward Until Dawn than it does Man of Medan. Little Hope will launch Summer 2020 as the second entry in the Dark Pictures Anthology, which Supermassive Games describes as a series of "intense, standalone, branching cinematic horror games" that combine "atmospheric environments with powerful storytelling to create a terrifying new gaming experience." Little Hope will feature the same two multiplayer modes that Man of Medan did: Shared Story and Movie Night. In Shared Story, players can share their story with friends online while in Movie Night, a group of five players can pass the controller in an offline mode. As we've come to expect with Supermassive Games, characters in Little Hope can live or die and your choices will depend on the story that plays out for each. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=little-hope&captions=true"] "We've been delighted by the reaction from players and the success of Man of Medan as the first installment of The Dark Pictures Anthology," Samuels said. "We really appreciate the feedback from the community and the team remains committed to the goal of making each new installment deliver further thrilling horror experiences, with the next chapter, Little Hope, bringing an all new and disturbing horror story to the anthology." We thought Man of Medan was a good start for the anthology series, giving it a 7 out of 10. When Until Dawn released back in 2015, we gave it a 7.5 out of 10. If you're looking for what you might have missed in Man of Medan before jumping into Little Hope this summer, we've got a video with every character death in the game you should check out. Little Hope will come out on PS4, Xbox One and PC this summer. Plague Inc. Removed from Sale In China

Plague Inc. has been removed from sale in China at the instructions of the Chinese government, just weeks after the game skyrocketed in popularity in the country following the outbreak of COVID-19 (a.k.a. Coronavirus). In a statement on developer Ndemic's website, a spokesperson wrote: "We have some very sad news to share with our China based players. We've just been informed that Plague Inc. “includes content that is illegal in China as determined by the Cyberspace Administration of China” and has been removed from the China App Store. This situation is completely out of our control." It's unclear whether this move has been taken in response to the game's success following the coronavirus outbreak, which originated in China. Ndemic has said it's working to reverse the decision by contacting the Cyberspace Administration of China to understand its reasoning. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/25/how-coronavirus-is-impacting-the-games-industry"] Previously, Ndemic had released a statement asking players not to rely on the game for information about the spread of coronavirus – although the developer does tout the game's educational value, with the US Centre for Disease Control publicly recognising it. Nothing will change for the game outside of China, but it's a puzzling situation. China is notably restrictive around video games - between 2000 and 2015 there was a ban on the production, import and sale of consoles and arcade machines and, as recently as last year, the country legally banned children from playing games after 10pm, among other provisions. Zarude, a New Mythical Pokemon for Sword and Shield, Revealed

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have revealed Zarude the rogue monkey, a new mythical Pokemon coming to Pokemon Sword and Shield. A short trailer has shown Zarude in action. This new mythical is a dark/grass type Pokemon, who can use the Leaf Guard ability. The video description on YouTube claims that “When fighting, it swings around using trees and their branches, attacking relentlessly with its sharp claws or any other means it has. Its quick wit helps it excel in battles.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=pokemon-home-price-and-features&captions=true"] Zarude lives up to its dark type by looking a little less like a monkey and more like a gremlin, with red markings around his eyes, fang-like teeth and pointed fur making him appear particularly aggressive. The trailer demonstrates him dealing a great amount of damage to a Rillaboom and a Drednaw. In other news, you can now get access to Pokemon Home and transfer monsters from Pokemon Bank to the new system. Also, why not watch this adorable little girl win a major Pokemon championship. The Simpsons Take On Avengers: Endgame in New MCU-Style Poster

The Simpsons executive producer Matt Selman has teased the show's upcoming MCU crossover episode by sharing a new poster that parodies Avengers: Endgame. Selman unveiled the poster on his Twitter account, as he promoted the special episode, titled Bart the Bad Guy, which is set to air on Sunday, March 1 at 8 pm (ET) on Fox. New Simpsons x Avengers Crossover Poster Bart takes the spotlight in the centre of the colourful image, where he appears alongside a Simpsonized version of big bad Thanos, who goes by the name of "Chinnos" and will be voiced by Marvel boss Kevin Feige. On the opposite side, there are two grinning movie executives, who will be voiced by Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo in the episode. Meanwhile, Homer, Marge and Lisa take their rightful place on the cinema seats at the forefront of the image, surrounded by an eclectic cast of new characters, though Maggie is notably absent from the poster. Fox has since clarified in a tweet that "she's a little too young to watch superhero movies." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/02/20/10-times-the-simpsons-predicted-the-future"] In the episode, Bart sees an unauthorized early preview of an unreleased sequel from an extremely popular Vindicator superhero movie franchise. After his advanced screening, he realises that he wields the power to spoil the movie for millions of people who have yet to watch it, while the studio execs desperately try to silence the Springfield youngster. Before Avengers: Endgame, the Russo Brothers encouraged moviegoers to try and see a screening on the opening weekend for a better chance of a spoiler-free experience. They even shared a letter in which they asked people not to ruin the twists and surprises in the film, as they coined the hashtag #DontSpoilTheEndgame. Xbox Series X Can Quick Resume a Game Even After a Full System Reboot

The Xbox Series X's quick resume feature was confirmed earlier this week but it's now been revealed that it even lets you resume games after rebooting the console.

Microsoft's Larry Hryb discussed the feature on the February 26 episode of his Major Nelson podcast with Jason Ronald, the director of program management at Xbox. Ronald explained that the Xbox One already lets you quick resume games you're playing, but says that the SSD of the Xbox Series X lets you do that with multiple titles, instantly jumping between them to pick up right where you left each one.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/24/xbox-series-x-has-12-teraflops-new-technical-specs-revealed-ign-news"]

Hryb then recounts a time that he admits he'll "probably get in trouble for talking about," during which he discovered how far the quick resume feature goes. "One of the things that I was noticing when I was in the lab when I was playing it, I was switching back and forth just real quickly and seamlessly between games, but then I had to reboot because I had a system update. And then I went back to the game and went right back to it. So it survives a reboot. That's amazing."

Ronald confirms that this is the case and remarks that it's hard to go back to older consoles after using the quick resume of the Xbox Series X. "If I just want to have a quick gaming experience, I can instantly jump in have a great time, and then know that the next time I come back I'll be right where I was," Ronald said.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=xbox-console-power-levels-compared&captions=true"]

That means you can turn the Xbox Series X on, even have it fully update the system, and get right back to a game without having to go through any of the typical loading procedures. This is just one of the features that was announced, if not fully detailed, by Microsoft after revealing the Xbox Series X power levels and the features that have been built around that.

If you want to know more, you can see how the Xbox Series X stacks up against modern PCs, or if you prefer to find out what you'll be able to play on the next-gen console, check out the confirmed Xbox Series X launch titles.

Hideo Kojima to Receive BAFTA's Highest Honour

Metal Gear and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima will be given the Fellowship at the BAFTA Game Awards on April 2, 2020.

The Fellowship is the highest award given by BAFTA to an individual. It recognises and celebrates a person's creative contributions to film, television, or games. Those in the game industry who have received a Fellowship previously include Tim Schafer, John Carmack, Gabe Newell, Peter Molyneux, Will Wright, and Shigeru Miyamoto.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/12/death-stranding-mind-of-kojima-video"]

On hearing the news, Kojima said: "Thank you very much for this precious BAFTA Fellowship award. I am very honored, and would like to take this moment to reflect on the many predecessors that came before me, as I deeply respect their contributions to entertainment, whether in movies, television, or games. I would also like to thank those who have supported me over the years and I will continue my commitment to creating new and innovative ways that will push the world of ‘play’ entertainment forward."

Kojima's first big breakthrough in games came in 1987, when he designed Metal Gear at Konami, which contributed greatly to the stealth genre. He went on to make games with distinctly cinematic presentations, such as Snatcher and Policenauts, which are influenced by his love of movies.

He also has a passion for mecha, as seen throughout his Metal Gear and Zone of the Enders series. Kojima left Konami in 2015 after nearly 30 years at the company to create his own studio, Kojima Productions, which so far has produced one game, Death Stranding.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-kojima-game-review&captions=true"]

In November 2019, Kojima was awarded with two Guinness World Records for being the game developer with the most fans on Instagram and Twitter. He is now working on his next project with his team at Kojima Productions. It is likely to be a game, perhaps even Death Stranding 2, however, Kojima has said he would also like to make films in the future.

Baldur's Gate 3 Leaked Screenshots Look More Impressive Than Expected

A set of Baldur’s Gate 3 screenshots have leaked, revealing not just what the game looks like, but also a much more graphically impressive project than first expected. The screenshots, posted to Imgur just hours ahead of the Baldur’s Gate 3 first gameplay reveal at PAX East, shows an isometric RPG in a similar style to developer Larian Studios’ previous project, Divinity: Original Sin 2. Naturally, this perspective also links it to the original two Baldur’s Gate games, which were both isometric in perspective. However, it appears that the game also has third-person perspective segments. Dialogue with other characters is shown at a scale akin to The Witcher or Dragon Age, with very impressively drawn character models that are notably more detailed than what we'd expect from an isometric game. There are also what appear to be stills taken from cutscenes, also shown from a similar third-person perspective. While Divinity: Original Sin 2 was graphically impressive for an isometric RPG, it appears that Larian has striven for something more ‘AAA’ in appearance for Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s unclear if the Divinity engine is being used, but small indicators such as the same fonts suggest that it may be a heavily upgraded version of that tech. Beyond being graphically impressive, the screenshots also provides hints to the gameplay design, which seems very much within the lineage of the Divinity: Original Sin games. The HUD contains a bottom hotbar with quick access to a variety of what look like abilities, spells, and items. There are also the traditional party portraits, which appear to display icons above them. It’s unclear what those icons represent, but they look like they could symbolise queued actions rather than status effects. The environments on show are classic Forgotten Realms fare, with tombs, foreboding forests, fire-lit dungeons, and lush woodlands. Within the snippets of conversation shown by the subtitles there’s talk of the Mind Flayers - the C’thulu like horrors shown in the announcement trailer - as well as an indicator that your character’s traits can affect the responses you can provide (one answer is marked ELF, suggesting only an elvish character can say it). The responses are also, unusually, written akin to a character retelling their adventures, rather than just a written out variant of what your character can say. For example, in a scene with a demonic-like character, the options include “This man was a devil! I drew my weapon” and “I told the hell spawn to cut to the chase. What did he want?” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/06/06/baldurs-gate-3-announcement-teaser-uncut"] The Baldur’s Gate 3 gameplay reveal takes place at PAX East today at 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 8pm UK, so there's not long to wait until we can see more of this in gameplay form. You can watch the reveal live on our YouTube channel. Dungeons & Dragons owner Hasbro announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be available in early access later this year. Astronomer Discovers Mini-Moon Orbiting Earth

Earth has captured an asteroid that's spending time in space acting as a mini-moon, or baby moon, to our planet. The International Astronomical Union named the asteroid spinning around Earth a temporary captured object and, for the time being, it's acting like a tinier version of our moon. Astronomers discovered this mini-moon on February 15 using the Catalina Sky Survey in Arizona, and ten days later,  the IAU filed it as 2020 CD3. "Orbit integrations...indicate that this object is temporarily bound to the Earth," the IAU filing reads. "No evidence of perturbations due to solar radiation pressure is seen, and no link to a known artificial object has been found. Further observations and dynamical studies are strongly encouraged." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-sci-fi-movies&captions=true"] You read that right: no link to artificial objects has been found meaning this is likely a straggler space rock hurtling through the solar system, and not a gift from aliens or smugglers in space. We also know it doesn't belong to Elon Musk because he said so on Twitter shortly after the announcement. Astronomer Kacper Wierzchos shared the news on Twitter, explaining a bit more about 2020 CD3. Wierzchos expanded on his first tweet, explaining that 2020 CD3 has actually been in Earth's orbit for three years. The mini-moon has a diameter between 1.9 meters and 3.5 meters based on his assumption that it's a C-type asteroid albedo. "But it's a big deal as out of ~1 million known asteroids, this is just the second asteroid to orbit Earth," Wierzchos said. The first asteroid to orbit earth was 2006 RH120. This asteroid completed a few trips around Earth from 2006 to 2007 before it left the planet's orbit and continued on elsewhere in the solar system. As the discovery is still somewhat new, not much is known of the object, although we imagine astronomers like Wierzchos and NASA will have their eyes glued to while it remains in orbit. Microsoft Edge Adds SkiiFree-like Surf Game Directly Into the Browser

If you were around for SkiFree, a Microsoft-created video game released in 1991 for the company’s Entertainment Pack 3, you probably enjoyed the surfing Easter egg the company hid in its Edge browser last year. Microsoft has now made the SkiFree-like surfing game an offline Edge browser game. Last year to promote the unveiling of a new Edge browser logo Microsoft developers hid a surfing game heavily reminiscent of SkiFree. Microsoft employees hid the game and only users who deciphered their clues via puzzles and secret images were able to play the game. But now that game will be available to anyone on the Edge browser. Edge users can find the game at edge://surf. The new version now supports three new modes including a time trial, support for keyboard, mouse, touch, or gamepad, and local high scores. Check out the game in action in the tweet below. There’s no online functionality, but as a nice little Easter egg that’s available whenever you’re bored, it’s not a bad experience. The surfing game was added as part of a new developer build for Microsoft Edge such as a Share button, and other more browser-specific features that aren’t related to the fun surf game. Check it out if you’re running the latest version of Edge. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt Kim is a reporter for IGN.

Move Over Luke Skywalker, Iron Man's 'Real' Father Is [SPOILER]

If you haven't been following Marvel's Iron Man comics in recent years, you could be forgiven for thinking Howard Stark is Tony's biological father. The truth is much more complicated, and that story has just taken another strange turn. Read on to find out which Marvel character is claiming to be Tony Stark's father now, but beware of spoilers for The Avengers #31! [poilib element="accentDivider"] [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-top-25-marvel-villains &captions=true"] To quickly recap Tony Stark's convoluted family history, Tony first discovered he was adopted in in 2013's Iron Man #17. His adoptive brother Arno is the biological son of Howard and Maria Stark, but the Starks adopted Tony as a cover after Arno's health deteriorated as an infant. The identities of Tony's biological parents weren't revealed for several more years. 2016's International Iron Man #5 introduced Tony's birth mother, British radio DJ Amanda Armstrong. The following issue revealed the identity of his birth father, a SHIELD agent code-named Jude. Jude turned out to be a Hydra mole, forcing Amanda to kill him in self-defense and give her baby up for adoption. Now things are becoming even more complicated in the pages of The Avengers. After discovering a million-year-old Iron Man helmet buried in a cave, Tony is dragged back to the year 1,000,000 BC to meet Odin's team of prehistoric Avengers. These Avengers refuse to assist Iron Man in returning to the present, alluding to a forthcoming conflict involving every single Iron Man from across the Marvel multiverse. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/17/iron-man-vr-is-the-latest-delayed-game-of-2020"] Instead, Tony is forced to hide in a cave and try to keep his damaged armor working long enough to fend off curious cavemen and find a way home. Ironically, it was Tony's own helmet he discovered in the year 2020. He's soon visited by even stranger sights, including a Gorgilla wielding the Power Stone and a talking snake claiming to be his father. As he fights to stay alive, Tony flashes back to his childhood, remembering a time when he stumbled across his father Howard overseeing some sort of Satanic ritual. After forging a crude Iron Man armor from ice and leftover scraps, Tony is confronted by more talking snakes and Howard Stark himself, again clad in Satanic robes. Following a brief battle, "Howard" reveals himself to be none other than the demon lord Mephisto, come to claim Tony's soul just as he once stole Spider-Man's marriage. [caption id="attachment_2309866" align="aligncenter" width="922"]Art by Robert Gill. (Image Credit: Marvel Comics) Art by Robert Gill. (Image Credit: Marvel Comics)[/caption] Mephisto again implies he's Tony's true father and that the real Howard sold his son's soul long ago. Tony refuses the offer to become Mephisto's "Devil in Iron." Instead, he realizes Mephisto is carrying the Time Stone and blasts it with his gauntlet, sparking a reaction that drags him forward through time. Tony is bombarded by visions of the hellish future from writer Jason Aaron's King Thor miniseries before finally returning to the present. Tony immediately travels to Las Vegas to confirm the present-day Mephisto is still imprisoned and to let the demon lord know he failed in his efforts to lure Iron Man to the dark side. Mephisto, however, is pleased with how his plot is unfolding. He's sown the seeds of doubt in Iron Man's mind, and he has a secret weapon - his faithful servant Howard Stark. [caption id="attachment_2309867" align="aligncenter" width="920"]Art by Mattia De Iulis. (Image Credit: Marvel Comics) Art by Mattia De Iulis. (Image Credit: Marvel Comics)[/caption] It's hard to say right now if Mephisto is literally Tony's birth father or if he merely considers Tony to be his son because Howard sold him Tony's soul. It may be that Amanda and Jude are still technically Tony's birth parents, but their short-lived union was orchestrated by Mephisto. Either way, the fact that Howard himself is apparently alive and plotting with Mephisto against Tony is easily the biggest reveal in this bizarre story. Hopefully upcoming issues will shed more light on what Mephisto and Howard have planned, and what this Iron Man multiverse story entails. Are we about to enter the Iron-Verse? Diablo 4 Left-Click Button Now Rebindable

Diablo 4's quarterly update introduces the Cannibals and a long-awaited feature, rebinding the left-click button. Blizzard revealed the information as part of a developer blog. The new group of enemies known as the Cannibals is one of many labeled "families" in the Diablo 4 universe. The developers of Diablo 4 previously announced that enemy groups will be classified first by family type and then genre, so within the Canibal group there will be some enemies that are ranged, melee, etc. Check out the trailer below showing a brief look at the Cannibals. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/26/diablo-4-cannibal-family-turnaround-trailer"] Some of the current known families include the Cultists, the Drowned, and the returning Fallen. Blizzard Developer, Candace Thomas, Senior Encounter Designer, describes the Cannibals as melee bruisers that leap toward players. Thomas states in the developer blog that each of the four family enemies has a unique fighting style.
  • The two-handed greatsword cleaver wielder that has a "slow sweeping frontal attack".
  • A more mobile attacker with a lightweight halberd for leaping great distances.
  • A bruiser that can stun players with a heavy spiked club attack.
  • The dual axe-wielding swarmers that aim to be a pain if left alone.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=diablo-4-gameplay-reveal-images&captions=true"] A short message from an unknown character named, Liya Khal’tib, provides some lore to the Cannibals, "The few who have survived encounters with these butchers share the same stories. They tell of the mad fire that burns in the eyes of all Cannibals, of how eating the flesh of their victims in battle only fuels their hunger for more. They whisper of the unlucky souls spared in the attacks, hauled off like livestock for the raiders to pick clean until their next hunt." The full message is readable in Blizzard's quarterly update. While this news doesn't include a release date for Diablo 4, the quarterly updates will be a way to continue learning more.

Diablo 4 Left-Click Now Rebindable

[caption id="attachment_230978" align="alignnone" width="720"]DIablo 4 Cannibals Screenshot Credit: Activision Blizzard[/caption] One of the major changes from Diablo 3 includes the ability to rebind the left-click button. This was a frequently asked for feature because you couldn't use what's known as force moving. Without force moving, if you accidentally left-click an enemy while trying to move toward them, it attacks them instead of only moving in that direction.

Changing the UI to Look More Realistic

Blizzard also tweaked the UI after receiving feedback from BlizzCon 2019. Lead UI Designer, Angela Del Priore, spoke about creating a more realistic inventory through different aesthetics. On top of this, Priore briefly mentioned they're developing Diablo 4 with controller support on PC. Or that Diablo 4 will contain cosmetic microtransactions? It's not all bad, there still might be a Diablo anime in the works. Bungie to Remove Paid Loot Boxes From Destiny 2 Next Season

The upcoming Season 10 of Destiny 2 will see Bungie remove paid loot boxes from the game. Destiny 2 director Luke Smith announced in a lengthy "Director's Cut" blog post on Wednesday that Bungie is removing the ability for players to purchase Bright Engrams, which are essentially paid loot boxes. A Bright Engram can be purchased in the Eververse store using Silver, an in-game currency that can be purchased with real money, and decoded to reveal random shaders, emotes and more. "For Season 10, we're doing away with Bright Engrams as purchasable items," Smith wrote in the blog post. "We want players to know what something costs before they buy it. Bright Engrams don't live up to that principle so we will no longer be selling them on the Eververse Store, though they will still appear on the Free Track of the Season Pass." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=destiny-2-forsaken-screenshots&captions=true"] As Smith pointed out, Bright Engrams will still be in the game on the free track of the season pass but players will no longer be able to spend the premium currency of Silver on them. Smith doesn't bring up Bright Engrams again in his blog post and it sounds like they will no longer be available for purchase right from the start of Season 10. With the removal of Bright Engrams from Destiny 2 soon, it's important to note that Bungie still has plenty of items in the game that players can purchase such as its season pass. Premium random loot boxes have been on their way out of video games in recent years, with the entire discussion coming to a head in 2017 with Star Wars Battlefront 2's loot box situation. EA's handling of loot boxes in Battlefront 2 had state representatives taking a stand and calling for legislation against "the spread of predatory practices in online gaming." A U.S. Senator went so far as to introduce a bill that would ban the selling of loot boxes to children. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/10/12/the-esrb-and-the-loot-box-gambling-controversy"] EA DICE said the company hit rock bottom with that loot box controversy. The Entertainment Software Association announced last year that Nintendo, Mircosoft, and Sony were all working on new loot box policies for their platforms that would disclose a range of odds associated with a player's purchase. EA seems to have backed off of loot boxes and it seems Bungie is joining the ranks of companies like EA doing the same. This might be a result of Bungie's recently-gained independence from Activision. Season 10 of Destiny 2 is expected to begin soon although no start date has been announced just yet. Type #Candyman 5 Times Into Twitter to Watch a Sneak Peek

Jordan Peele, producer and co-writer of 2020's Candyman, found a clever way to release the new movie's first teaser, playing on the film's legend of saying "Candyman" five times to summon the hook-handed killer. As noted by Mashable, Peele revealed Twitter users can post a tweet that includes "#Candyman" five times to have the sneak peek sent directly to their feed. The six-second teaser features our first look at Candyman's infamous hook, as well as a blood-curdling scream from star Teyonah Parris (WandaVision). [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-horror-movies-on-netflix&captions=true"] Peele's Candyman will be a "spiritual sequel" to Clive Barker's 1992 original. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, HBO's Watchmen) stars alongside Parris and Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead). Original Candyman actor Tony Todd is reportedly returning for the 2020 film, according to Bloody Disgusting, though it's unclear in what capacity. Nia DaCosta (Little Woods), who co-wrote the script alongside Peele and Win Rosenfeld, is directing. "The original was a landmark film for black representation in the horror genre," Peele said when the film was announced in 2018. "Alongside Night of the Living Dead, Candyman was a major inspiration for me as a filmmaker — and to have a bold new talent like Nia at the helm of this project is truly exciting." Candyman hits theaters on June 12.
