Ubisoft Executive Tommy François Leaves the Company After Misconduct Allegations

Tommy François, Ubisoft's vice-president of editorial and creative services, has left the company after allegations of harassment and sexual misconduct. The departure of the long-serving executive, who had previously been placed on administrative leave, was first reported by Business Insider's Samuel Horti. When asked for comment by IGN, an Ubisoft spokesperson replied with, “Tommy François has left the company, effective immediately.” Business Insider reports that CEO Yves Guillemot told Ubisoft employees about François' departure last week. François' role saw him steering the creative direction of the company's franchises, including Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Watch Dogs. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/21/multiple-assassins-creed-games-reportedly-scrapped-or-minimised-female-lead-roles-before-release-ign-news"] François is far from the onlu Ubisoft executive to leave the company in recent weeks. After being wracked with scandals, the French developer/publisher has seen Ashraf IsmailMaxime BélandSerge Hascoët, Tannis Mallat, and Cécile Cornet all step down from their senior roles following allegations of toxic behaviour, sexual misconduct, and mishandling of employee reports about abuse at the company. Yves Guillemot has promised "major changes" to the company following numerous and ongoing reports of harassment and misconduct among employees across Ubsoft's studios. New Historical Fiction Novel Accidentally Includes Zelda: Breath of the Wild Recipes

A recipe from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has accidentally appeared in a historical fiction novel, most likely due to a Google search from the book's author. The Traveller At The Gates of Wisdom is the latest novel from Irish author John Boyne, who you may know from his most famous work, The Boy In the Striped Pyjamas, which was adapted into a movie in 2008. A picture of a page from the novel surfaced on Reddit over the weekend, and the story was turned into a Twitter thread by writer Dana Schwartz. As you can see in the embedded tweet above, as Boyne writes about dyes used in dressmaking, he mentions ingredients such as Octorok Eyeball, Keese Wing, "the tail of the red lizalfos and four Hylian shrooms." Now where have we heard that before... As pointed out by Schwartz, it appears that Boyne has googled "ingredients red dye clothes" and stumbled upon Polygon's "How to dye your clothes and armor in Breath of the Wild" guide. If you replicate this yourself, you can see that the first ingredients mentioned for this Google search relate to in-game recipes from Breath of the Wild, which is where Boyne appears to have sourced his information from. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/03/25/the-very-best-recipes-for-combat-stamina-and-even-rupees-zelda-breath-of-the-wild"] Boyne responded to Schwartz's thread in jest, noting that he will be "telling this anecdote on stage for many years to come." Boyne later replied to Schwartz noting that he won't be editing it in future revisions of the novel. "I don't remember but I must have just googled it," Boyne added. "Hey, sometimes you just gotta throw your hands up and say "yup! My bad!" Boyne might be able to source a few new recipes when The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 arrives - although we still don't know when that will be. No More Heroes Switch Port Rated In Taiwan

No More Heroes has been rated for Nintendo Switch by the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee, potentially signalling a new release for the 2008 cult classic game. As spotted by Gematsu, a listing for Marvelous Inc's No More Heroes was found on the rating board's website, with 'Switch' listed as the game's platform. In a 2018 interview with Nintendeal, game director Suda 51 teased that he had been "talking with Marvelous" about potential Switch ports for No More Heroes and its 2010 sequel, Desperate Struggle. The game was previously ported to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011 with the title No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise. You can check out our review of the port here, where we said that, "for all of you who never played it the first time around, go get Heroes' Paradise. Seriously, like, now." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/13/no-more-heroes-3-the-return-trailer"] For those who haven't played, No More Heroes is a surreal mix of GTA open world antics and hack 'n' slash combat. We reviewed No More Heroes back in 2008 upon its initial Wii release, awarding the game a 7.8 and praising its "snappy combat, hilarious characters" and "cinematic battles." We also included the game in our video running through the 12 weirdest video game mechanics. The third mainline game in the series, No More Heroes 3, is scheduled to release at some point in 2020 for Nintendo Switch. You can check out the first gameplay reveal of No More Heroes 3 here, though watch out for Suda51's head blocking the trailer... Warframe's Third Open World, Heart of Deimos, to Be Released This Month

Warframe's third open world, Heart of Deimos, will be added to the game on all platforms on August 25, 2020, and brings with it a brand new way to customize your Warframe in the Helminth Chrysalis System, Necromechs, and much more. Revealed at TennoCon 2020, Deimos' open world features a hauntingly-beautiful landscape that has been overrun by Infested enemies, the dark Entrati, and more "sights unseen in ever-changing underground cave networks." Players will also be able to "harness the power of the Void" with the community-designed Xaku, which also happens to be the second-ever Warframe to be "designed by the Tenno." Heart of Deimos will add more than just new Warframes, as players will be able to utilize new Necromechs that can be used in every open-world zone. These Necromechs are slower than a Warframe, but have a ton of firepower and defense. One of the bigger additions is the Hemlinth Chrysalis System, which allows players to feed the Helminth resources to unlock a new suite of abilities. The Helminth can also consume a whole Warframe to extract an ability to infuse into another. The Heart of Deimos will also bring with it a new player experience that offers a better tutorial and introduction into the world of Warframe. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/27/warframe-heart-of-deimos-teaser-trailer"] As reported by Polygon, Deimos, which is the second moon of Mars, is smaller but more dense than Orb Vallis and Plains of Eidolon's open zones. There is also no standard day night cycle, yet "two giant worms are battling back and forth for dominance. One worm, a striking orange fellow, signifies that waves of Infested will attack. But each day, the blue worm will triumph, and the planet will become a more peaceful place for a time." Warframe, which made our list of the Top 10 Free-to-Play Games on Steam, will be released on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, although no release date has been given. Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins Says Wonder Woman 3 Will 'Probably' Be Her Last

Last month, Wonder Woman/Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins explained that she'd "hit the pause button" on development for a third Wonder Woman film so that she could make sure she was "absorbing whatever the result of this pandemic is." “We’re not starting to work on that movie right away,” Jenkins had said. “I’m hoping to do this Amazon movie before we do the third Wonder Woman. And I may not do either of them. You never know what will happen in this world, you know?" Now, in a recent interview with Geek, a German publication (translated and tweeted out by @DCMovieNews2), Jenkins revealed that Wonder Woman 3 will most likely be her final go at the character. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=maxwell-lord-and-his-connection-to-wonder-woman-explained&captions=true"] "[Wonder Woman 1984] gave me a chance to do a lot of things that I couldn't accommodate in the first movie." Jenkins shared. "I was so happy to tell the Wonder Woman origin story. It was almost her birth, but we really haven't seen what she is capable of. It is exciting for me to show her at the peak of her strength. But it is also very important that she fights an internal struggle: she is a Goddess and tries to help humanity. She is not only someone who fights evil, she tries to show bad people how to improve. It's an interesting dilemma." "The next one is probably my last Wonder Woman movie," Jenkins continued, "so I have to put everything I want to show there. We have to think carefully." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/06/18/cheetah-explained-who-is-the-wonder-woman-1984-villain"] In related DC film news, Warner Bros. announced a DC-themed, online-only convention dubbed DC FanDome - a free "immersive virtual fan experience" that will be a 24-hour-long event held on August 22. Virtual panels will feature interviews from the cast and creators of many current and upcoming DC projects, including Wonder Woman 1984, The Batman, The Suicide Squad, Black Adam, and more. Microsoft Updates Xbox Game Pass Branding by Removing the Word 'Xbox'

Microsoft has updated its branding for both Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass PC by removing the word "Xbox" from its social channel's logos. As reported by Thurrott, this change has been made for both @XboxGamePass and @XboxGamePassPC, although the names of each account are still Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass For PC, respectively, and the Xbox logo is still present. Additionally, the Xbox Game Pass website still uses the full name. Screenshot_2020-08-02 (1) Xbox Game Pass ( XboxGamePass) Twitter While this could be a simple rebranding of the logos, it also could be a hint of things to come in regards to Microsoft's future plans for the service. A couple weeks ago, Microsoft stopped selling 12-month Xbox Live Gold plans, which could signal it being phased out for a potential all-encompassing "Game Pass" plan or other service. Furthermore, Microsoft continues to add even more value to Xbox Game Pass and recently announced that it will be adding Project xCloud support in September 2020 to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at no extra cost. This xCloud support in Xbox Game Pass could be a reason behind the rebranding, as it will allow subscribers to play their games on not just Xbox, but on PC and mobile devices as well. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/24/we-think-we-know-xbox-series-xs-launch-lineup"] Considering Xbox Game Pass Ultimate also includes Xbox Live Gold, it could make sense to focus Microsoft's services into one central brand. All of these changes, including Microsoft's decision to stop production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S Digital Edition, are all occurring just a few months before the launch of Xbox Series X in Holiday 2020. Microsoft recently gave more details about many of the first-party games headed to Xbox Series X, including Halo Infinite, Fable, Forza Motorsport, Everwild, and more. Suicide Squad Director Confirms Joker/Fake Harley Quinn Theory

Suicide Squad director David Ayer recently responded to an online Joker/Harley Quinn theory regarding mysterious females, wearing red, who briefly appear in the background of some of Joker's moments of emotional torment. First, here's the full "Woman in Red" theory from @ColdBloodedJoke... Taking cues from an episode of The New Batman Adventures, where Joker hired a woman to look like Harley and then almost killed her when he tired of her, the theory puts forth that these women are meant to be a Harley surrogates for Joker during the time of Harley's incarceration. Then, of course, with this not being an animated series, he does kill them when he eventually snaps. When presented with this theory, by a #ReleasetheAyer Cut advocate, Ayer confirmed the idea. Ayer recently stated that a director’s cut -- aka "Ayer's Cut" -- of Suicide Squad would be “easy to complete.” Fans started a #ReleasetheAyerCut movement after it was announced that Warner Bros. was putting $30 million into completing the Snyder Cut of Justice League for HBO Max. That news, plus years of reports on Jared Leto Joker scenes being cut and the film's overall tone being changed into something more comedic, has many people wanting to see Ayer's original Suicide Squad see the light of day. Veteran Character Actor Wilford Brimley Dead at 85

Curmudgeonly, mustachioed character actor Wilford Brimley died Saturday at the age of 85, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Salt Lake City native Brimley appeared in dozens of films and TV shows over his decades-long career but will perhaps be best remembered to IGN audiences as Dr. Blair in John Carpenter's 1982 version of The Thing. That sci-fi/horror classic, starring Kurt Russell, saw Brimley (sans his signature walrus mustache) play the senior biologist stationed at U.S. Outpost 31, an Antarctic research center whose inhabitants are hunted by an alien predator who can assume any form. [caption id="attachment_2387707" align="alignnone" width="720"]Wilford Brimley in The Thing. Wilford Brimley in The Thing.[/caption] (SPOILERS! Blair ends up becoming one of the many forms The Thing takes over the course of the movie.) In addition to The Thing, Brimley's foray into sci-fi saw him starring as Ben Luckett in 1985's Cocoon and its sequel, Cocoon: The Return. Although he was only in his 50s at the time he made the Coccon movies, Brimley played a senior citizen in both films. He also played "Noa" in the 1985 Star Wars TV movie Ewoks: The Battle for Endor. Brimley's other film credits include The Natural, The Firm, Hard Target, In & Out, Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, Absence of Malice, and The China Syndrome. On television, Brimley played the family patriarch on the late '80s series Our House, but is arguably best remembered for starring in commercials for Quaker Oats and to fight diabetes. Ghost of Tsushima's Weather Will Change Based on Your Playstyle

Ghost of Tsushima features a dynamic weather system that occurs in real-time as Jin Sakai is working to save his homeland from the invading Mongols. However, it has been revealed that more storms will occur as Jin goes deeper down the Ghost path. Speaking to Gamespot, Ghost of Tsushima creative director Nate Fox explained that, "The game is definitely scripted to provide more storms as you do things which are extremely Ghost driven." Jin Sakai begins his journey as an honorable samurai, but to defeat his enemies that threaten his home, he must walk a more dishonorable path by using stealth and striking from the shadows. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/22/ghost-of-tsushima-best-moments-from-our-live-stream"] Mongols faced early on are meant to be taken down by using the skills of a samurai, but Ghost of Tsushima gradually unlocks Ghost skills for you as the difficulty ramps up and naturally encourages players to embrace this different way. The weather follows Jin's journey, and begins much calmer. Yet, if the player chooses to utilize the Ghost path more as the game progresses, the storms become more frequent and areas will become a bit darker, which runs in parallel to Jin's evolution. It's important to remember that players can choose to change the weather at any point with their flute, but this is a nice touch to a game that doesn't feature a traditional morality meter. The Batman: Dave Bautista Tried His Best to Play Bane

At the end of last year, Guardians of the Galaxy star, and ex-WWE superstar, Dave Bautista tweeted out a picture of himself on the Warner Bros. lot with the caption "It won’t come to you so get after it!! #DreamChaser." It now seems as though Bautista was there to pitch himself as Bane for Matt Reeves' The Batman. Recently, responding to a comment online where the tweeter wrote that he'd read an article speculating that Bautista could be playing Bane, Bautista explained that he had tried his best to win the role. Take a look! On the known villain front, The Batman will feature Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, and Colin Farrell as Penguin. The Batman, which paused production due to COVID-19 last March, was one of several films that got cleared to resume shooting soon. A few weeks ago, it was announced that Warner Bros. had ordered a TV spinoff to The Batman - a prequel series focused on the members of the Gotham City Police Department that will be exclusive to HBO Max. The Batman will be a part of DC's FanDome event on August 22. Hannibal: NBC Wanted Hugh Grant or John Cusack as Dr. Lecter

NBC's low-rated Hannibal lasted for three brilliant seasons before it finally got the chop, and in a new interview, creator Bryan Fuller, who recently shared some ideas for a possible fourth season, explained how he fought to cast relative-unknown Mads Mikkelsen in the role of Dr. Hannibal Lecter while NBC wanted a bigger name, along the lines of what they did with James Spader and The Blacklist. Talking to Collider, Fuller said "there was a difference of opinion on what a traditional television network would want as a leading man and what we would want as an actor playing Hannibal Lecter to personify playing that character." "I think the network wanted somebody that was much more poppy, much more mainstream, much more American I think in some ways," Fuller stated. "That was just them thinking about ‘Okay how do we get the biggest audience for our television show? We have to cast John Cusack as Hannibal Lecter and everybody will tune in because won’t that be surprising?’ I was like, ‘Well go ahead, make an offer.’” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-15-best-horror-tv-shows-of-the-last-10-years&captions=true"] Fuller shared that whenever NBC suggested a name, he suggest they make an offer. An offer he knew would be turned down. "I’d say ‘Mads Mikkelsen’ and they’d say ‘No, how about Hugh Grant?’ and I’d say, ‘Great, make an offer, he’s gonna say no,’ then they’d make an offer and he’d say no, and I’d be like ‘What about Mads Mikkelsen?’ and they’d be like ‘Well what about John Cusack?’ and I’d say ‘Great, make an offer, he’s gonna say no’ and they’d make an offer and he’d say no and I’d say, ‘What about Mads Mikkelsen?’" The casting of Mads Mikkelsen, according to Fuller, then made the marketing folks more or less tune out from the show. But that, in turn, gave the Hannibal team way more creative freedom. "They sort of gave up on it a little bit because we were casting a European guy as the face of [a show] they wanted to be more accessible," he said. "I felt that they were right for their reasons but wrong for my reasons." "And so the gift of that, the gift of casting Mads Mikkelsen, is that their investment in the show became dramatically decreased," Fuller continued, "and so that allowed us to do a lot of things that we wouldn’t have been able to do if they were saying, ‘No this show needs to get 10 million people watching it every week.' Because then we would have to really be tied down to certain parameters of storytelling that were going to mesh with a mainstream audience. So Mads was the gift that allowed us to tell the story the way that we wanted to tell it, because the network was like, ‘Well it’s not the person that we wanted and we don’t really see him in this role,’ and we were like, ‘Fine, just let us make the show’.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/01/new-to-netflix-for-august-2020"] In other TV news, you can read IGN's review of The Umbrella Academy: Season 2 (along with an explainer of the ending if you've already finished), plus here's everything we know about The Witcher prequel series, Blood Origin. Here's Why the Star Wars Movies Might Need to Swap Names

Netflix podcast host Kris Tapley created a silly stir recently with a minute-long TikTok showcasing an argument for renaming all the Star Wars Skywalker Saga movies. Titled "Why Every Star Wars Film Has the Wrong Title," the video quickly, and humorously, takes viewers through all nine episodes, rearranging the titles -- from Episode I: The Phantom Menace to Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker -- to explain why they should all be switched up. Check it out... Here's Tapley's suggested naming:
  • Episode I: The Rise of Skywalker
  • Episode II: Revenge of the Sith
  • Episode III: Attack of the Clones
  • Episode IV: Return of the Jedi
  • Episode V: The Force Awakens
  • Episode VI: The Last Jedi
  • Episode VII: The Empire Strikes Back
  • Episode VIII: A New Hope
  • Episode IX: The Phantom Menace

So what did y'all think? Does this new sorting of titles make sense? Do they make more sense than where they are now? In other movie news, Courteney Cox is returning for Scream 5, Michael Jackson tried to play Professor X in 2000's X-Men, and Karl Urban (The Boys, LOTR) revealed he had a secret cameo in The Rise of Skywalker.
