How Marvel's Runaways is The O.C. of the MCU

Marvel's Runaways takes a deep dive into teen angst this fall, premiering November 21st on Hulu.

In fact, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb referred to Runways, which he'd had his eye on developing for years, as "The O.C. of the Marvel Universe" even before he hired the actual creators of The O.C. to run it.

IGN spoke to executive producers Josh Schwartz (The O.C., Chuck) and Stephanie Savage (The O.C., Gossip Girl) recently, at the Television Critics Association press tour, about how the show fits into the greater MCU and what it's like to tackle this famous high school conspiracy story from Brian K. Vaughan. But, most importantly, I wanted to know what they themselves thought Loeb meant when he made that O.C. comparison.

SNES Classic Preorders Will Begin This Month

Despite an accidental preorder retail listing last month, Nintendo has announced that the Super NES Classic Edition will officially be available for preorder later in August.

In a Facebook post, Nintendo said the company "can confirm that it will be made available for pre-order by various retailers late this month." While declining to mention a specific number, Nintendo said "A significant amount of additional systems will be shipped to stores for launch day, and throughout the balance of the calendar year." Nintendo told IGN it intends to produce "significantly more" SNES Classic than NES Classics, which Nintendo had shipped 2.3 million units of worldwide before its cancellation this year.

A new photo from the set of Lucasfilm's Han Solo movie has been revealed, and it seemingly contains a brand new alien not seen before in the Star Wars universe.

Director Ron Howard posted the photo on Twitter, saying he's "working out a shot w/cinematographer Bradford Young for #UntitledHanSoloMovie." You can see plenty of crew members in the photo. Check it out below.

On-set photo featuring the new alien.

However, in the top left corner there's an alien in strange-looking clothing who seems to be playing some sort of a board game. Whether this alien will be a major figure in the film remains to be seen.

Lost Sphear Is Retro RPG Fun, a la I Am Setsuna

When JRPG kingmaker Square Enix unveiled their new development studio Tokyo RPG Factory back in 2015, many fans were hopeful for a return to the company’s early RPG roots. Sure enough, the outfit’s first foray into nostalgia -- I Am Setsuna -- received a warm reception for its loving homage to '90s classics like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI. This past week the developer released a short demo for its sophomore title, Lost Sphear. Will it be as welcomed as its spiritual predecessor? It’s tough to say considering the demo is only about 30 minutes long. But even in that short time, I feel like Lost Sphear is off to a promising start.

Mario + Rabbids Is Really Weird, and That’s the Point

I move an injured Peach into tiara-high cover. On the one hand, it obscures her line of sight, turning at least two Rabbids with springs attached to their feet into unreachable targets. On the other, I now hold the high ground over a third enemy - and I only need one more kill to complete the mission. My gumption is rewarded - it’s a 100% hit chance. A celebratory animation kicks in once I hit the fire button, zooming into the steely face of the Mushroom Kingdom’s de facto leader as she levels a shotgun the size of a French horn at her target. An enormous boom, and a cone of flame engulfs the creature and he scurries away, his arse now on fire (Peach currently has a 50% chance of adding a burn status effect). He phases out of existence, and I win. The Princess gives a demure twirl of happiness at having slaughtered those who would invade her country.

EA Merges BioWare Montreal With Motive Studios

EA has officially confirmed it's merged BioWare Montreal with Motive Studios.

“The teams in EA Worldwide Studios are packed with talent, and more than ever, we’re driving collaboration between studios on key projects," EA told IGN in a statement. "With multiple major projects in development in Montreal, we are merging BioWare Montreal with Motive Studios. This is an ongoing process, but there are many exciting roles and opportunities for everyone on the team."

The merge comes after reports that the Mass Effect series was to be put on hold after the underwhelming release of BioWare Montreal's Mass Effect: Andromeda, and that the studio would instead be focusing on BioWare's other titles.
