How Does Your Name.'s Opening Box Office Compare to Other Anime Film Debuts?

Your Name. debuted at No. 12 at the domestic box office over the weekend, taking in an estimated $1.6 million from only 303 theaters. And while the film may not have cracked the top 10, it did earn one of the 10 highest grossing domestic opening weekends for anime films.

Despite the small number of theaters in which it screened, Your Name. debuted as the ninth biggest anime opening weekend in the U.S., ranking just below Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F,' which opened in 183 theaters.

All seven films above Your Name. and Resurrection 'F' opened in more than 900 theaters, which makes direct comparisons difficult, but check out the top 10 anime film openings in the U.S. below (numbers via BoxOfficeMojo):
