Ghost in the Shell Flops in Debut

Ghost in the Shell had an underwhelming debut at the domestic box office, placing third with an estimated $19 million.

Paramount's live-action adaptation has a long way to go to reach profitability and will have to rely on international success if it hopes to recoup its $110 million production budget. As noted by Variety, director Rupert Sanders' sci-fi film has eared $40.1 million from foreign markets thus far.
