How to Help End SARS in Nigeria

The movement to #EndSARS in Nigeria has been amplified following protests to end the police brutality by SARS – the country's Special Anti-Robbery Squad. The protests recently turned violent by SARS officers with Amnesty International confirming on Twitter that they have, "received credible but disturbing evidence of excessive use of force" against protestors. According to The New York Times, SARS was originally created in 1984 in response to violent crimes in Nigeria, however, the organization evolved into a corrupt unit in the early nineties. Below are resources to help the movement to #EndSARS.

Diasporans Against SARS

https://www.gofundme.com/f/4ppyfs-diasporans-against-sars The Diasporans Against SARS are activists who are dispersing funds to on-ground organizations in Nigeria. "This Gofundme campaign is in support of the multiple victims on ground, suffering from the aftermath of protests, violence, looting, across the nation. This fundraiser also serves as a bridge for those who are unable to contribute directly to the cause. Proceeds will be distributed to verified and vetted grassroots organizations, such as LifeBank , Feminist Co , Kokun Foundation  and others, that are dedicated to meeting the needs of the protesters and the movement. A full transparency report, including where we received donations from and proof of fund deposited to said organizations, will be shared with all donors via email and publicly on our social media accounts."

Feminist Coalition

https://donatebtc.feministcoalition2020.com/ The Feminist Coalition is an organization that strives for equality among women in Nigeria. "The feminist coalition is a group of young Nigerian feminists formed in July 2020 with a mission to champion equality for women in Nigerian society with a core focus on education, financial freedom and representation in public office. We have a vision for a Nigeria where equality for all people is a reality in our laws and everyday lives." They were the main leader of donations for #EndSARS but have recently stopped receiving donations. Their statement can be read here: https://feministcoalition2020.com/statement-oct-22/
