Universal's Monsters Shared Universe Is Now Dark Universe

Universal Pictures' classic monsters shared universe is now officially known as the Dark Universe franchise. And with that naming comes the announcement of several key roles.

The studio revealed today that the shared universe, which kicks off with The Mummy, will also include Johnny Depp as The Invisible Man and Javier Bardem as Frankenstein’s Monster, in addition to The Mummy's Tom Cruise (Nick Morton), Russell Crowe (Dr. Jekyll), and Sofia Boutella (The Mummy).

The next film in the shared universe will be Bride of Frankenstein, directed by Beauty and the Beast's Bill Condon for a February 14, 2019 release. As part of Bride of Frankenstein's release reveal, Universal confirmed that there will no longer be a Dark Universe film hitting theaters on April 13, 2018, as previously announced.
