Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 dominated the box office in its domestic debut, earning an estimated $145 million.
The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, directed by James Gunn, enjoyed a strong international start last week, and followed that this week with a $124 million foreign haul after opening in a few additional territories. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's global total now stands at an estimated $428 million.
As noted by Variety, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 surpassed the $140 million figure it was expected to reach during its opening weekend in domestic theaters, and had the widest IMAX debut ever. The film has currently made $25 million from IMAX screenings, with $13 million of that revenue coming from North America.
