Firestarter: Blumhouse Reboot Casts Zac Efron

Zac Efron has been cast in Blumhouse's reboot of Firestarter, a 1984 thriller adapted from a Stephen King novel. The first movie adaptation of Firestarter was released in 1984 and starred Drew Barrymore as a young girl named Charlie McGee with pyrokinetic abilities. In the reboot, Zac Efron will play Andy McGee, Charlie's father. Meanwhile, Collider reports the role of Charlie has not yet been cast. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=stephen-kings-best-movies&captions=true"] This reboot comes by way of Blumhouse, Universal Pictures, and Weed Road, and much like the original 1984 film and 1980 novel, will be a sci-fi thriller about a young girl with pyrokinetic abilities who is kidnapped by the government. David Keith played the father to Barrymore's character in the 1984 film and Efron will step into the same role played by Keith. No other casting has been made for the film at this point. Keith Thomas (The Vigil) will direct the movie with a script written by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills, Narcos: Mexico). Jason Blum will produce the film alongside Akiva Goldsman of Weed Road and Martha De Laurentiis, who worked as an associate producer on the original film. George C. Scott, Art Carney, Louise Fletcher, and Martin Sheen were just some of the supporting cast. Efron was last seen, or rather, heard in this year's Scoob! animated movie as Fred Jones. You can check him out as Ted Bundy in Netflix's Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile movie from last year as well. If you're looking for other movies based on Stephen King novels, check out Doctor Sleep and Pet Sematary.
