Ms. Marvel Has Been Cast

Newcomer Iman Vellani has been cast in the title role of Ms. Marvel. According to Deadline, Vellani, 18, won the role after a long search. The Disney+ series follows Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teenager in New Jersey who will be the MCU's first Muslim superhero on screen. In a 2019 interview with the CBC, Vellani referred to herself as a Pakistani-American-Muslim teenager with immigrant parents. Ms. Marvel is expected to eventually segue into the big screen MCU. Vellani was part of this year's Toronto International Film Festival's Next Wave Committee, wherein she was asked who would play her in a movie to which she responded, "Iron Man... duh." [caption id="attachment_2414748" align="alignnone" width="720"]Iman Vellani (via TIFF 2020). EA Pulls Ad That Markets FIFA Microtransactions to Children

EA has pulled an advertisement that marketed FIFA 21's FIFA Points microtransactions to children from the magazine the ad originally appeared in. A picture going around Twitter earlier this week showed a FIFA 21 advertisement in a children's toy magazine. Sounds innocent enough but that advertisement was specifically marketing the game's FIFA Points, which are in-game points purchased with real money to buy FUT packs that give players random virtual players to add to their dream team. In other words, you're spending real money on the chance to get a random virtual player in-game. That ad will be pulled from the magazine, according to EA in a report from Eurogamer. "We take vey seriously the responsibilities we have when marketing EA games and experiences in channels seen by children," EA told Eurogamer. "In spite of this, we're aware that advertising for FIFA Points has appeared in environments it shouldn't have. We have been working diligently with Smyths (toy magazine) to ensure this advertisement is not distributed in any remaining copies of their 2020 catalogue." EA said it has undertaken an immediate review of all future media placements to ensure each of its future marketing efforts better reflects the "responsibility we take for the experience of our younger players." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/06/fifa-21-official-gameplay-trailer"] It's unclear if the now-pulled advertisement was placed in the Smyths toy magazine on purpose or if it was a mixup of some kind. Regardless, it's expected to be removed from the rest of the 2020 catalog for the magazine. This isn't the first time EA has found itself in hot water over microtransactions. Microtransactions in Star Wars Battlefront 2, which was an EA game, caused enough controversy that then-Disney CEO Bob Iger got involved and the company even found itself defending loot boxes, which are a form of microtransactions, to the UK's parliament. Godfall Is $10 Cheaper on PC Than PS5

Godfall, the next-gen looter-shooter from Counterplay Games and Gearbox Publishing, will be $10 cheaper for players who buy the game on PC. Both digital and physical preorders are now available for Godfall, and the pricing varies depending on your platform. The game is a console exclusive for the PlayStation 5, where the standard edition will cost $69.99. Meanwhile, preorders for the PC version on the Epic Games Store are listed at $59.99. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/14/godfall-combat-trailer"] Subsequently, the two special editions for Godfall are also $10 less on the Epic Games Store. The Deluxe Edition is $89.99 on PS5 and $79.99 on PC, and the more expensive Ascended Edition is $99.99 on PS5 and $89.99 on PC. The Deluxe Edition comes with day one access to Godfall's planned 2021 expansion, while the Ascended Edition adds onto that with Gold-themed digital items. Many next-gen games are receiving $69.99 price tags, but the pricing of PS5's launch lineup varies greatly. Games only coming to next-gen consoles, like Godfall, Destruction AllStars, and the Demon's Souls remake, are being listed for $69.99. First-party cross-gen games also coming to PS4, like Sackboy: A Big Adventure, will retail for $59.99. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/08/are-70-next-gen-games-justified"] Third-party cross-gen games aren't as consistent. Ubisoft's launch window games, including Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Immortals Fenyx Rising, are being listed at $59.99 across the board, but Ubisoft isn't ruling out a price increase in the future. However, games like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and NBA 2K21 are seeing $10 price hikes for their next-gen versions. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a special case, as the standard edition will cost $49.99. That's likely because the game is smaller in scope compared to a full retail release, similar to Naughty Dog's Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=confirmed-playstation-5-games&captions=true"] Godfall will launch on PC on November 12th, or alongside the PlayStation 5 on either November 12th or November 19th, depending on your region. All PS5 preorders come with an early equipment starter pack, cosmetic skins, and Zer0's sword from Borderlands. Sony recently revealed preorder details for its PS5 launch lineup, including Digital Deluxe Editions for Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Demon's Souls. If you're still trying to secure a PlayStation 5, keep an eye on IGN's PS5 preorder guide. We'll update the retail links when more stock becomes available. Google's New Flagship Pixel Phone is Finally Here

Google just unveiled its new flagship smartphone, the Google Pixel 5, during its online Launch Night In event. Unlike the four previous Pixel phones that have been chasing the iPhone as a high-end device, the Pixel 5 marks a fundamental shift towards being a more mid-range smartphone with its $699 price. This is most evident in its use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor, rather than the Snapdragon 865 found in other Android phone flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S20 and OnePlus 8. Although it's not the quickest on the market, the Snapdragon 765G should keep the Pixel 5 running at a peppy clip, and it has seen a memory boost with 8GB of RAM. The Qualcomm system on a chip also grants this handset 5G connectivity. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=google-launch-night-in-event&captions=true"] Alongside the more modest CPU, the Pixel 5 sports a 6-inch OLED display with a Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. That's not quite as impressive as the QHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate we've seen on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and other premium smartphones, but Google isn't targeting this market. On the camera's front, Google has mercifully dropped the telephoto camera from the Pixel 4 and replaced it with a 16MP Ultrawide camera. Meanwhile, the main camera is only 12.2MP, but you get a slightly more wide-open f1.7 aperture, which will allow might light in and should help with night time and low-light photography. What's more, Google has a few new software-based camera features including a new HDR Plus shooting mode that involves actual bracketed exposures – meaning the camera will take multiple shots at different exposure levels. Users will also be able to take portrait photos with Night Sight enabled at the same time. Lastly, a new AI-based Portrait Light feature will allow you to turn your old photos into portrait shots, complete with blurred backgrounds. For videos, users have access to new stabilization modes and cinematic pan to make their home movies a little more interesting. Google has also made a major improvement on the battery front, boosting the mainline Pixel phone's battery from 2,800mAh to 4,080mAh. With a new Extreme battery saver, Google claims the Pixel 5 will be able to extend its battery life up to 48 hours. Additionally, the Pixel 5 supports reverse wireless charging so you can place your Pixel Buds or another smartphone on the back of this device to recharge them. The Google Pixel 5 will be available for $699 and it will release on October 15th. Google's flagship phone will also come bundled with three months of Stadia Pro, YouTube Premium, 100GB of Google One storage. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Have a tip for us? Oscar Isaac Cast as Francis Coppola in Movie About The Godfather

Oscar Isaac and Jake Gyllenhaal will reportedly star in Francis and The Godfather, a movie chronicling director Francis Ford Coppola's legendary trials making his Oscar-winning gangster classic The Godfather. According to THR, Oscar Isaac will portray Francis Ford Coppola, while Jake Gyllenhaal will play Robert Evans, a former actor who became the boss of Paramount Pictures and greenlit The Godfather. Coppola would go on to make two sequels to The Godfather in 1974 and 1990. Just a few short years after making The Godfather, Coppola, one of the great American auteur directors of the 1970s, would face even more notorious travails making Apocalypse Now, which were depicted in the documentary Hearts of Darkness. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/30/7-things-you-probably-didnt-know-about-the-godfather"] Robert Evans later became a successful producer in his own right who recounted his career in the memoir The Kid Stays in the Picture, which was later turned into a documentary. Oscar-winner Barry Levinson (Bugsy, Rainman) will direct the film, which has also received the blessing of Coppola himself. Coppola said in a statement: “Any movie that Barry Levinson makes about anything, will be interesting and worthwhile!" Levinson, who reworked an original screenplay by Andrew Farotte, said: “Out of the madness of production, and against all odds, a classic film happened." Coppola faced not only Hollywood's lack of faith during the making of the film -- including pushback on the casting of then-relative unknown Al Pacino as Michael Corleone as well as the notoriously difficult Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone -- but the production also had to placate members of La Cosa Nostra who didn't want the term "Mafia" used in the movie. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/07/28/10-best-movie-moments-of-all-time"] Francis and The Godfather has been in the works since 2017.

Conan the Barbarian Series in Development at Netflix

Netflix has added another iconic character to its library. The streamer is developing a new series based on Robert E. Howard's Conan stories. As reported by Deadline, the new series is part of a larger arrangement between Netflix and Conan Properties International, giving Netflix exclusive rights to adapt Howard's iconic Conan tales in both live-action and animated form. The Conan series will be executive produced by Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler through their production company Pathfinder Media. Deadline notes Netflix is currently on the hunt for writers and directors, so the project appears to be in its early stages. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/05/29/conan-unconquered-launch-trailer"] Conan has been adapted in both live-action and animated forms several times over the years. Arnold Schwarzenegger famously had his breakout role starring in 1982's Conan the Barbarian and reprised the role for 1984's Conan the Destroyer. Conan was more recently rebooted in 2011's Jason Momoa-led Conan the Barbarian. The franchise has also spawned three TV series to date - the animated series Conan the Adventurer and Conan and the Young Warriors and a short-lived live-action series also called Conan the Adventurer. A third live-action movie called The Legend of Conan has been trapped in development hell for years. The film is a direct sequel to 1982's Conan the Barbarian and inspired by Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven, with Schwarzenegger reprising his role and playing a much older and more battle-weary Conan who now rules over the kingdom of Aquilonia. It's unclear if Netflix might resurrect that project in a new form, or if the new series might be tied to the earlier Schwarzenegger films. Based on the terms of Netflix's new deal, there's no reason we couldn't see multiple incarnations of Conan on the service. Back in 2018, it was reported Amazon was developing its own Conan series, but it appears that the project is now dead. Amazon is instead betting big on its Lord of the Rings prequel series, which recently resumed filming in New Zealand after a months-long, pandemic-induced shutdown. Conan has lately been enjoying a resurgence at Marvel Comics, with the comic publishing rights returning to Marvel after a 15-year stint at Dark Horse Comics. Conan and the Hyborian Age mythology have been integrated into the larger Marvel Universe, and Conan has even joined the Avengers. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-action-movies-on-netflix-right-now&captions=true"] Are you excited about Netflix's Conan series? Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered Reveals New Peter Parker, PS5 Details, 60 FPS Gameplay

As part of the Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales Ultimate edition, Insomniac will pack in a code for a PS5 remaster of its 2018 Marvel’s Spider-Man game. Today, the developers shared what players can expect from a next-gen remaster of Spider-Man including new visuals, features, and even a new face for Peter Parker. In a new PlayStation Blog post, Insomniac revealed that the next-gen, PS5 remaster for Spider-Man will look better than ever thanks to technology like ray-tracing. The environments will be more detailed, and Spider-Man will even have ray-traced reflections and ambient shadows. Insomniac says character models will also get a boost with higher fidelity skin, eye, and teeth shaders. But one really big change coming to the Spider-Man PS5 remaster is that Insomniac recast the facial capture model for Peter Parker. You can check out a clip of the new Peter Parker face model in the video below. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/30/marvels-spider-man-remastered-ps5-new-peter-parker"] “We loved working with John Bubniak on the original game; however, to get a better match to Peter Parker/Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal’s facial capture, we have cast Ben Jordan to be the face model for Peter Parker on the PS5 console,” Insomniac says in its blog post. Some online have said the new face actor appears younger and shares a certain likeness to another Peter Parker in a more cinematic universe. But on Twitter, Insomniac’s James Stevenson confirmed that the new actor is older than Peter Parker’s in-game age (Jordan is 26 in real life) and that the original PS4 version will not be patched to incorporate the new actor. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/30/marvels-spider-man-remastered-60fps-performance-mode"] Other features confirmed for Spider-Man Remastered are a new performance mode that targets 60fps on PS5, near-instant loading with the option to turn on the funny fast-travel animations if desired, Spatial 3D audio, and haptic feedback on the DualSense controller. The new photo mode in Miles Morales will also be available in Spider-Man Remastered. Finally, Insomniac revealed a new Spidey suit and it’s the one Andrew Garfield wore in The Amazing Spider-Man film series. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies Mode Revealed

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has revealed its take on the returning Zombies mode - a new story set alongside existing Zombies canon, featuring cross-generation, cross-platform play, Battle Pass integration, and more. The new Zombies map is titled Die Maschine, a location with "more than a nod to 'Nacht der Untoten' – the map that started it all". Taking place in the early '80s, the four player co-op mode stars Grigori Weaver (returning from the original Black Ops) leading a CIA-backed team called Requiem as they explore an abandoned World War 2 bunker. The mode will also feature a rival Soviet sqaud called Omega Group that aims to study and harness the supernatural phenomena in the area. "Between Requiem and Omega Group," reads a blog post, "there are plenty of characters who may aid or hinder your journey, while others have separate, unknown agendas that will be up to players to discover. Among this cast, there is one particular contact – Sam – who seems eager to share intel discovered from deep within the KGB." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-zombies-screenshots&captions=true"] For the first time ever, Zombies will be available as a cross-platform mode, and will also work across generations, meaning all online players can play together, regardless of the machine they're using. Zombies will also now contribute to the Call of Duty Battle Pass, just as Mutliplayer and Warzone currently both contribute to it. You can also bring your chosen loadout into the mode. The mode will also add new tactical features as you play. This includes adding weapon rarities, field upgradfes (which are charged by killing zombies, and can be deployed to provide buffs, healing, and more), lethal, tactical, and support equipment (the latter including turrets and chopper gunners), and no-limit perks. There's also a new Exfil option, which allows a squad that's sure it won't survive to escape via helicopter in return for some rewards (but will send hordes your way as you wait for extraction). As we approach its November 13 launch, we've so far heard about Black Ops Cold War's Zombies, the game's new campaign, and played its multiplayer. That leaves Warzone yet to hear about, but we know it will be integrated into the new game. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Joe Skrebels is IGN's Executive Editor of News. Follow him on Twitter. PlayStation Plus Games for October 2020 Announced

Need for Speed: Payback and Vampyr have been announced as PlayStation Plus' free games for October 2020. From Tuesday, October 6 until Monday, November 2, you'll be able to pick up the racing game and Dontnod's RPG vampire-'em-up for free as part of your PS Plus subscription. Need for Speed: Payback is the more underwhelming of the two offerings - in our 5.9 review we called it "a big, competent, and confident arcade racer but it’s really let down by its linear cop chases, its overwrought and insidious upgrade system, its dreadful dialogue, and its superficial action sequences." Vampyr is a step up, however. In a 7/10 review, we called Dontnod's narrative-focused experience "a slow burn of an RPG, taking its time to ramp up its intriguing blend of science and the supernatural in an elaborately gloomy version of London." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/06/04/vampyr-review"] Last month's games, PUBG and Street Fighter 5, will remain available for free to PS Plus members until October 5, so make sure to claim them in time. We spoke to narrative director Jeffrey Yohalemto learn more about the game’s narrators, and how they bring comedy to the story.

George R.R. Martin Reveals His Least Favourite Game of Thrones Scene

George R.R. Martin has revealed his least favourite Game of Thrones scene from all eight seasons of the HBO series. Entertainment Weekly reports that Martin shared his disappointment of the King Robert hunting scene in the upcoming book Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon, a definitive oral history of the blockbuster series that draws on the author's many long days and nights spent on production sets all over the world in order to bring the HBO adaptation to the small screen. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/23/george-r-r-martin-gives-an-update-on-the-winds-of-winter"] "Where we really fell down in terms of budget was my least favorite scene in the entire show, in all eight seasons: King Robert goes hunting," Martin explains in the book. "Four guys walking on foot through the woods carrying spears and Robert is giving Renly s***. In the books, Robert goes off hunting, we get word he was gored by a boar, and they bring him back and he dies. So I never did [a hunting scene]. "But I knew what a royal hunting party was like. There would have been a hundred guys. There would have been pavilions. There would have been huntsmen. There would have been dogs. There would have been horns blowing — that's how a king goes hunting! He wouldn't have just been walking through the woods with three of his friends holding spears hoping to meet a boar." Game of Thrones originally cost around $6 million per episode in its first season but ballooned to $15 million per episode for its final season. Martin seemed to blame the budget in season one for not being able to bring the scene to life in the way that he would have imagined, as he admitted that they "couldn't afford horses or dogs or pavilions" in those earlier years. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=game-of-thrones-which-dead-tv-characters-are-still-alive-in-winds-of-winter&captions=true"] This revelation comes shortly after Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss opened up about their reasons for leaving Lady Stoneheart out of the series, with both of them admitting that their decision to cut the fan-favourite character from the show had been partly influenced by their insider knowledge of Martin's pre-planned storylines. Young Rock: Dwayne Johnson Sets Main Cast for His Upcoming NBC Sitcom

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has announced the main cast members for his upcoming NBC comedy series Young Rock. Johnson shared the casting news in a series of Instagram posts on Wednesday, revealing the actors that have been selected to portray younger versions of himself and his family members on the NBC sitcom, which he says is based around his "wild and unpredictable childhood and formative years growing up." Three actors have been cast to portray Johnson throughout the various stages of his life. Adrian Groulx has been given the role of 10-year-old "little Dewey" Johnson (a nickname given to Johnson by his Godparents) while Bradley Constant has been tapped to play a 15-year-old version of The Rock. Finally, Marco Polo star Uli Latukefu has been cast to play Johnson at 20 years old when he was playing football on a scholarship at the University of Miami. In addition to those casting choices, Johnson announced that Stacey Leilua will be playing his mother, Ata Johnson (AKA "Mama Rock"), while Joseph Lee Anderson will take on the role of the star's late father, Rocky Johnson (AKA "the OG original Rock"). Ana Tuisila rounds out the cast in the "highly entertaining" role of Johnson's grandmother, Lia Maivia. Johnson noted that the first episode will be dedicated to his late father, who passed away earlier this year. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=dwayne-the-rock-johnsons-10-best-movies&captions=true"] According to Variety, the series will chart Johnson's childhood "from growing up in a strong and resilient family, to being surrounded by the wild characters of his professional wrestling family, to playing football at the University of Miami. It will explore the rollercoaster that has shaped Johnson into the man he is today and the larger-than-life characters he's met along the way." Production is now officially underway on the previously-announced series, which is being executive produced by Nahnatchka Khan, Dwayne Johnson, Jeff Chiang, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Brian Gewirtz and Jennifer Carreras. Young Rock is expected to debut on NBC sometime in 2021, so stay tuned to IGN for all of the latest updates and announcements. Wasteland 3 Developer Is Working on 2 New RPGs Right Now

Wasteland 3 developer inXile Entertainment has two RPGs in the works, according to a tweet from Studio Head Brian Fargo. Fargo responded to a fan on Twitter over the weekend, noting that the studio is "working on wonderful new RPG's." "It's too bad they take so long to make," Fargo's tweet ends. In a follow-up tweet, Fargo then clarified that the second of the two RPGs that InXile Entertainment has in development is still "in the infancy of pre-production", suggesting it's a long way off. As well as launching Wasteland 3 for PC, Xbox One and PS4 on August 28 this year, The studio has also been hard at work on Frostpoint VR, which recently launched in Open Beta on the Oculus Store and Steam. Some will be hoping that Fargo's future projects will be in some way related to Microsoft's acquisiton of Bethesda. InXile is also owned by Microsoft and, with Fargo's role in creating Bethesda's Fallout series, some have hoped for a crossover. In a similar vein, many have already requested an Obsidian-Bethesda crossover for Fallout: New Vegas 2. You can check out our review of Wasteland 3 here. We scored the game an 8, calling it a "memorable RPG" offering "choices with major consequences." Call of Duty: Warzone - Activision Reportedly Bans 20,000 More Cheaters

Activision reportedly banned around 20,000 Call of Duty Warzone cheaters as the game's Season 6 update began. A report from Vice citing an Activision spokesperson and "people familiar with the matter" says that the publisher issued a ban wave on Monday, with some terminations related to the use of a popular cheating program called EngineOwning. The EngineOwning website now lists its Modern Warfare 2019 cheat as "detected" suggesting that Activision has successfully halted its use in-game, wiping the accounts of thousands of cheaters in the process. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/29/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-warzone-season-six-battle-pass-trailer"] The Vice report specifically mentions the case of streamer Nick 'Wagnificent' Wagner, whose account was permanently banned in the middle of a livestream. Sources told Vice that Wagner was using the now-detected cheat in Warzone, which resulted in his ban. Back in April, Activision banned over 50,000 accounts for cheating, noting that "Warzone has zero-tolerance for cheaters." The game's developer Infinity Ward also warned that "more banwaves" were coming in July. Cyberpunk 2077 Studio Head Responds to Mandatory Crunch Reports

CD Projekt Red Head of Studio Adam Badowski has responded to a Bloomberg report about mandatory crunch at the studio, saying the move was "one of the hardest decisions I've had to make", but noting that Cyberpunk 2077's developers will be "well compensated for every extra hour they put in." This follows a report yesterday, which contained an email from Badowski sent to CD Projekt Red staff. The reported email says that the studio will be enacting mandatory six-day workweeks in the run-up to Cyberpunk 2077's November release after "extending all other possible means of navigating the situation." CD Projekt Red had previously promised its employees that they wouldn't be forced to crunch on the game, in an interview with Kotaku in 2019. Badowski issued a statement in response to Bloomberg's reporting on Twitter. "These last 6 weeks are our final sprint on a project we've all spent much of our lives on. Something we care for deeply. The majority of the team understands that push," Badowski's statement reads. "This is one of the hardest decisions I've had to make, but everyone is well compensated for every extra hour they put in," Badowski adds. "And, like in recent years, 10% of the annual profit our company generates in 2020 will be split directly among the team." If you're unfamiliar with the concept of crunch, it's a term used in the video game industry to describe situations where employees are asked to work overtime to meet project deadlines. For more information, check out our article covering the state of mental health in game development. In other Cyberpunk 2077 news, CD Projekt Red's Environment City Coordinator Hiroshi Sakakibara recently explained how his team built the game's setting, Night City. Nintendo's Jump Rope Challenge to Remain on Switch eShop 'Until Further Notice'

Nintendo has changed course and will not be removing the free download of Jump Rope Challenge on Switch on September 30, 2020, as originally planned, and stated that it will remain on the eShop "until further notice." The news was announced by Nintendo on Twitter alongside it revealing that players have performed 2.5 billion total jumps since Jump Rope Challenge's launch in June 2020. Jump Rope Challenge has players grabbing their Joy-Con and using them to jump rope virtually and working to get a high score as hopping bunnies. It boasts simple menus and no long tutorials, ensuring players can get into the fun with little barrier to entry. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=jump-rope-challenge-screenshots&captions=true"] This free game was created by a small group of Nintendo developers who were working at home following the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to "add some quick and fun movement into their daily lives." This decision by Nintendo, while not necessarily a sign of things to come, may be a glimmer of hope for other Nintendo games with a planned limited release, including Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario Bros. 35. Super Mario 3D All-Stars collects Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy in one collection. It's available now, but Nintendo has said it will have a limited physical and digital release until March 31, 2021. It is yet unclear what will happen to these game following that. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/16/super-mario-3d-all-stars-analysis"] Super Mario Bros. 35 is a battle-royale like competitive version of the original Super Mario Bros. that is also reminiscent of Tetris 99. Firestarter: Blumhouse Reboot Casts Zac Efron

Zac Efron has been cast in Blumhouse's reboot of Firestarter, a 1984 thriller adapted from a Stephen King novel. The first movie adaptation of Firestarter was released in 1984 and starred Drew Barrymore as a young girl named Charlie McGee with pyrokinetic abilities. In the reboot, Zac Efron will play Andy McGee, Charlie's father. Meanwhile, Collider reports the role of Charlie has not yet been cast. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=stephen-kings-best-movies&captions=true"] This reboot comes by way of Blumhouse, Universal Pictures, and Weed Road, and much like the original 1984 film and 1980 novel, will be a sci-fi thriller about a young girl with pyrokinetic abilities who is kidnapped by the government. David Keith played the father to Barrymore's character in the 1984 film and Efron will step into the same role played by Keith. No other casting has been made for the film at this point. Keith Thomas (The Vigil) will direct the movie with a script written by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills, Narcos: Mexico). Jason Blum will produce the film alongside Akiva Goldsman of Weed Road and Martha De Laurentiis, who worked as an associate producer on the original film. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/01/26/extremely-wicked-shockingly-evil-and-vile-teaser-trailer"] Aside from Barrymore the original film adaptation starred Heather Locklear and Keith as her parents. George C. Scott, Art Carney, Louise Fletcher, and Martin Sheen were just some of the supporting cast. Efron was last seen, or rather, heard in this year's Scoob! animated movie as Fred Jones. You can check him out as Ted Bundy in Netflix's Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile movie from last year as well. If you're looking for other movies based on Stephen King novels, check out Doctor Sleep and Pet Sematary. Cyberpunk 2077 Devs Reportedly Required to Crunch to Meet November Release Date

CD Projekt Red is reportedly enacting mandatory six-day workweeks to finish work on Cyberpunk 2077 in time for its November release. The studio previously promised employees that there will be no mandatory crunch to finish the highly-anticipated RPG. In a report published by Bloomberg, CD Projekt Red studio head Adam Badowski sent an email to staff explaining the decision to crunch before the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Badowski even addresses how the crunch decision reverses earlier promises from the company saying they wouldn’t require it. “I take it upon myself to receive the full backlash for the decision,” Badowski reportedly wrote in an email. “I know this is in direct opposition to what we’ve said about crunch. It’s also in direct opposition to what we’ve said about crunch. It’s also in direct opposition to what I personally grew to believe a while back — that crunch should never be the answer. But we’ve extended all other possible means of navigating the situation.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/01/cyberpunk-2077-rtx-showcase-trailer"] Crunch is a term across a variety of industries where employees are asked to put in extra hours, sometimes days, to complete a project before a deadline. The commitment extends far beyond the typical workday or week, meaning employees typically stay late into the night and weekends to meet strict goals. CD Projekt co-founder Marcin IwiÅ„ski gave an interview to Kotaku in 2019 saying that it would like CD Projekt to be known as a studio that’s humane to its developers, and discussing its “non-obligatory crunch policy.” For more on crunch and its impact on game developers, read about the worrying trends in mental health within the games industry. IGN has reached out to CD Projekt for a comment but has not heard back in time for the publication of this story. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt T.M. Kim is a reporter for IGN.

Borat 2 Will Debut on Amazon Prime Before US Presidential Election Day

Borat 2, or as it's now officially known, Borat: Gift of Pornographic Monkey to Vice Premiere Mikhael Pence to Make Benefit Recently Diminished Nation of Kazakhstan, will be debuting on Amazon Prime prior to this year's US Presidential Election Day. According to Deadline, Amazon Studios has acquired worldwide distribution rights to the upcoming sequel. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-comedies-on-netflix-right-now&captions=true"] Arriving seemingly out of nowhere, Borat 2 was one of the first films to shoot during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak earlier this year. As filming restrictions were being lifted, Cohen returned with a skeleton crew to finish shooting. While fans spotted the titular character driving around parts of Los Angeles recently, the crew actually travelled internationally to film specific portions. As with the first movie, some places were more dangerous than others. Cohen even "risked his life multiple times to shoot the scenes in this film" even going so far as wearing a bulletproof vest on a couple occasions due to some of the film's locations. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2006/10/20/borat-cultural-learnings-of-america-for-make-benefit-glorious-nation-of-kazakhstan-movies-borat-press-conference"] Now, after months of filming undercover and remaining silent about the upcoming film, Cohen is ready to debut his first-ever theatrical sequel to the world just in time for the US Presidential Elections on November 3rd. Since movie theaters are either still closed or severely limiting moviegoer capacity, Cohen felt the best option was to release the film digitally for as many people as possible and thus struck a deal with Amazon Studios to allow the tech giant to distribute the film on Prime Video. No official release date has been given at this time, but with just over a month to go until Election Day we can expect some more classic Borat antics very soon. High five! Adult Swim "Permanently Retired" Episodes of Boondocks and Aqua Teen Because of Racial Content

Adult Swim has "permanently retired" an episode of The Boondocks and an episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force as well as "temporarily rested" an episode of The Shivering Truth. The episodes are not currently available on either the Adult Swim website or HBO Max due to "cultural insensitivities." When HBO Max, which also hosts Adult Swim content, launched in May 2020, it didn't take fans long to realize that episodes were missing. The Adult Swim Reddit page has a user pointing out on HBO Max's launch date that episodes of The Boondocks that were once banned are on the service, except for season 3, episode 4 "The Story of Jimmy Rebel." The Aqua Teen Reddit page has a user complaining back in June about the lack of season 6, episode 2 "Shake Like Me." The Aqua Teen episode was reportedly reinstated back in August, according to another Reddit user, but is currently not available. A representative for HBO Max told The Daily Beast in an article published on Tuesday that “neither of those episodes are part of our streaming deals.” Variety reports that the "Shake Like Me" episode was uploaded "due to a software error and was promptly removed." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/29/following-splash-mountain-ride-redesign-some-call-for-disney-to-change-jungle-cruise-next"] Adult Swim takes the blame and says that the removed episodes don't line up with their current "policies." "When Adult Swim transitions series to a new platform, we determine what episodes are selected through creative and cultural filters and our standards and practices policies," the Adult Swim representative told The Daily Beast. "Oftentimes these decisions are made in collaboration with the show’s creators.” The Aqua Teen and Boondocks episodes are now "permanently retired due to cultural sensitivities." For example, the episode of The Boondocks that was retired features the character Uncle Ruckus partnering with a racist country singer. The Daily Beast contacted the creator of The Boondocks, Aaron McGruder, but a representative for him declined to comment. McGruder recently signed up for a two-season revival of The Boondocks that will air exclusively on HBO Max. HBO Max and the Adult Swim website has incorrectly labeled The Boondocks season 3 to hide the missing episode. Episode 5 is now listed as episode 4, episode 6 is now listed as episode 5, etc. HBO Max has all of Aqua Teen's episodes listed correctly, and South Park, which has episodes missing from HBO Max because of potential terrorist threats, also has their episodes listed correctly. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-adult-cartoon-tv-series&captions=true"] The Adult Swim series The Shivering Truth has also had an episode removed from the Adult Swim website. The Daily Beast says the episode that was removed featured "a pregnant woman who gives birth to a police officer, who is then called a 'dirty pig.'" Adult Swim told The Daily Beast that that episode will "be returning to the site and included when the series debuts on HBO Max." They did not specify when that will be. HBO Max and Adult Swim are both owned by WarnerMedia, which previously received praise for how they handled controversial content by not editing or hiding it. WarnerMedia reissued a Tom and Jerry Blu-ray as recently as March 2020 that comes with an unskippable, 45-second content warning that plays before the main menu about the racism in the cartoons and how editing them "would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed." Two months after that Tom and Jerry Blu-ray came out and the murder of George Floyd has sparked a new policy in Hollywood regarding controversial content. An episode of The Office had blackface content edited out and the Dungeons and Dragons episode of Community was removed altogether. Other TV shows such as 30 Rock, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Scrubs have also had episodes removed due to blackface. Disney also announced plans to remodel the Splash Mountain ride at their theme parks after petitions from some Disney fans showed up online. Little Boy Donates Baby Yoda Doll to Firefighters Who Now Bring It With Them

The Force is strong with firefighters after a little boy donated his Baby Yoda doll, which they now carry with them to the frontlines of battling wildfires in Oregon, California, Wyoming, and Colorado. A five-year-old named Carver donated a doll of The Child, the breakout star of Disney Plus' The Mandalorian, to a drive supporting firefighters battling blazes in Molalla and Colton, Oregon. Carver included a note that read: "Thank you, firefighters. Here is a friend for you, in case you get lonely. Love, Carver." Awwwwww! [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/the-mandalorian-season-2-trailer"] "These firefighters are away from their children, their loved ones. This is a little pal that brings a bit of normalcy to a crazy time," Carver's grandmother, Sasha Tinning, told CNN. Tinning added, "To have a little bit of sunshine during such a dark time, I think that's really special for them. He (Baby Yoda) is also just cute as the dickens." Now, the Baby Yoda doll has become a companion to firefighters across the Pacific Northwest and West as they go out on calls. Three Jokers: Batman Faces the Return of His Greatest Foe

DC has released the middle act of Three Jokers, the long-awaited spiritual sequel to Batman: The Killing Joke. And unsurprisingly, there are more huge reveals as Batman, Batgirl and Red Hood investigate the mystery of the three Jokers and what this trinity of evil has planned for Gotham City. Read on to learn what happens in this issue and why Batman has more to worry about than just Joker himself. Beware of full spoilers ahead for Three Jokers #2! [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=batman-faces-the-deadly-mystery-of-the-three-jokers&captions=true"]

Jason Todd's Dark Destiny

Three Jokers #1 was plenty shocking in its own right, revealing Jason Todd's darkest secret and ending with the former Robin brutally executing The Clown, the version of Joker responsible for (almost) killing him back in 1988's Batman: A Death in the Family. But even with one of their number gone, The Criminal (the original Golden Age Joker) and The Comedian (the modern Killing Joker-era Joker) are still hard at work carrying out their master plan. They've been kidnapping and experimenting on dozens of unwitting Gothamites, all in the hope of creating a newer and even deadlier incarnation of the Clown Prince of Crime. Jason is the first to track down the two Jokers, hoping to finish the job he started with The Clown. But instead he's captured and tortured by the Jokers, forced to relive that terrible night The Clown nearly beat him to death with a crowbar. However, the Jokers don't kill Jason. They're still holding out hope he's the specimen they've been searching for - the man capable of becoming the perfect Joker. After all, he's already transformed into Red Hood. Maybe all he needs is that one, final push into madness. [caption id="attachment_2413955" align="aligncenter" width="1348"]Art by Jason Fabok. (Image Credit: DC) Art by Jason Fabok. A New Bat-Family Romance

Batman and Batgirl arrive too late to stop the two Jokers, but they rescue the physically and psychologically battered Jason. As Batman continues his hunt for the remaining Jokers, Barbara brings Jason back to her apartment to recuperate. There he discovers a stack of self-help books and mementos from Barbara's years of physical therapy recovering from her gunshot wound in The Killing Joke. For the first time, Jason realizes how much he and Barbara are alike and how much they both carry the lingering trauma of the Joker in their lives. Barbara tells Jason the one thing no one in the Bat-family has been able to admit - they all wish they had done more to help him recover from his near-death experience and help him find his way back into the light. At that moment, the two throw caution to the wind and kiss. [caption id="attachment_2413954" align="aligncenter" width="1332"]Art by Jason Fabok. (Image Credit: DC) Art by Jason Fabok. (Image Credit: DC)[/caption] At this point it's unclear whether Three Jokers is setting up an ongoing romance between Batgirl and Red Hood or if this is just a case of two emotionally vulnerable people processing a very heated moment. As it is, Three Jokers' place in current DC continuity is vague. But we do have to wonder if this surprise moment could wind up impacting the long-running Barbara Gordon/Dick Grayson relationship going forward.

Batman's Original Enemy Returns

While Batgirl focuses more on helping Red Hood, Batman's single-minded quest brings him to Blackgate Penitentiary, the prison that houses Gotham's non-criminally insane felons. After examining the body of a corrupt, murdered judge, Batman discovers the fingerprints of the man who sent him down the path toward becoming a costumed vigilante in the first place - Joe Chill. But how can that be when Chill himself has been locked up in Blackgate for years? Batman attempts to confront Chill in his cell, at which point his fearsome façade cracks and we see a glimpse of the wounded boy beneath: [caption id="attachment_2413956" align="aligncenter" width="1329"]Art by Jason Fabok. (Image Credit: DC) Art by Jason Fabok. (Image Credit: DC)[/caption] Batman discovers Chill's cell is empty, with Batgirl informing him Chill is currently dying of terminal cancer in Blackgate's infirmary. Batman is left to return to his cave and ponder how Chill factors into The Criminal and The Comedian's plans. Further complicating that mystery is the fact that The Comedian seems to have a twisted obsession with Chill's family. The opening pages of this issue show him driving to a quiet suburb and enjoying dinner with a mother and son who clearly want nothing to do with him. That dinner is eventually shown to be part of The Comedian's overactive imagination, but photos at Chill's bedside reveal that mother and son do exist, and they're Joe Chill's family. (Image Credit: DC)[/caption] The two surviving Jokers are clearly fascinated with the criminal who created Batman, and we get a better idea of why that is in the closing moments of Three Jokers #2. The two Jokers kidnap Chill and film him, hoping to force a confession about his true reasons for murdering the Waynes. Traditionally, the Wayne murders have always been depicted as an act of senseless violence by a desperate mugger. This issue seems to suggest a deeper motive at play. Perhaps Chill was hired as a hitman by a powerful Gothamite hoping to end Thomas Wayne's philanthropic crusade? Or did some version of the Joker exist even then, knowing full well the deaths of the Waynes would fuel the rise of his beloved Batman? We'll find out the truth when the third and final chapter of Three Jokers arrives on October 28. Diablo 4's Endgame Is Being Designed to Make Hardcore Players Happy

The developers behind Diablo 4 have published a new update about the ongoing development of the highly-anticipated dungeon-crawler. The latest blog covers specifically how Blizzard is retooling skills and talents for the upcoming sequel, as well as the end game progression. The first matter the Diablo 4 devs tackle is skill progression. According to user feedback, the skill progression as it was felt too simple and did not incentivize players to spend skill points. For Diablo 4 Blizzard split the Skill tree into a separate “Skills” and “Passives” section. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=diablo-4-skill-tree-update&captions=true"] Leveling points in the Skill section will affect different skills in ways that can lead to big power increases and customize playstyles to your liking. While leveling the Passive abilities will lead to more general upgrades to your character. Blizzard says that by endgame, players will have 30-40% of the skill nodes filled and that’s intentional. Players will not be able to acquire every Skill Tree node during their playthrough. The developers also touched on the endgame plans for Diablo 4. While Blizzard says it’s still in development and there won’t be specific details anytime soon, the philosophy for the endgame is to give it more depth and replayability than what is currently available with the Paragon system in Diablo 3. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/11/01/diablo-4-reveal-trailer"] Paragon essentially makes it so players kill monsters to grind out small improvements for their characters. While there are no details about Diablo 4’s endgame, Blizzard wants it to be where the “easy to learn, difficult to master” idea comes most into play “where the difficult to master component will come in and should meet the expectations of the most hardcore Diablo players out there.” Check out Blizzard’s full blog for details about specific Sorceress class changes and read our Diablo 4 preview from the last BlizzCon. Batman Unburied: David Goyer Writing Original Scripted Podcast for Spotify

David S. Goyer, the writer/co-writer for such films as Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises, will be the executive producer on Spotify's Batman Unburied, an audio drama that will "explore the darker aspects of Bruce Wayne's psychology." Batman Unburied will debut on Spotify in 2021 and is the first original narrative from Spotify, Warner Bros. and DC's multi-year partnership to produce and distribute an original slate of narrative scripted podcasts. Goyer originated the story and, as previously mentioned, will serve as executive producer, which is being developed by Goyer's Phantom Four production company in association with Warner Bros.' Blue Ribbon Content. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=ranking-the-batman-movies&captions=true"] “I’ve been a fan of narrative podcasts for some time and was looking for the right story — returning to Batman seems like the perfect opportunity,” said Goyer. “We’ll be using the unique advantages of audio to dig into the more nightmarish members of the Dark Knight’s Rogues Gallery.” Goyer, since his involvements in Nolan's Batman trilogy, co-wrote Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, wrote Man of Steel, and is currently executive producing the upcoming Netflix/Warner Bros. television drama series based on Neil Gaiman's The Sandman.
