Stephen King's IT Passes Major Box Office Milestone

The critically acclaimed horror reimagining IT has passed the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office.

Warner Bros. announced today Stephen King's latest novel adaption has surpassed that milestone, long having eclipsed The Exorcist's long-held record as the highest-grossing horror film of all time — $441 million.

The Exorcist held the record for 44 years with $441 million made. Of course, that number is unadjusted for inflation, not taking into account the various changes worldwide.

In addition to being the new top-grossing horror film, IT has also broken records for having the biggest opening weekend for the genre in over 30 markets.The film has yet to release in Germany, Italy, and Japan.
