Altered Carbon is set over 300 years in the future and follows ex-soldier Takeshi Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman) as he attempts to solve the murder of a wealthy individual, named Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy). In this futuristic dystopia, the ability to live forever is within reach thanks to a technology known as a Cortical Stack.
