Paladins Players Angry Over Updated Loot Box Progression

Paladins developer Hi-Rez Studios recently announced an updated progression system for its free-to-play hero shooter, and many players are angry over its apparent similarities to Star Wars Battlefront 2’s Star Card system, arguing it is pay-to-win.

Previously, stat-boosting cards needed to be unlocked either through randomized loot boxes called chests or by crafting specific ones. Under the reworked system, dubbed Cards Unbound, all cards are available to all players, but have also been split into levels ranging from one to five, with higher-level cards offering better bonuses.

Star Wars: All the Major New Aliens in the Modern Movies

The Star Wars galaxy is a huge place, and even after eight live-action movies, it feels as though we've barely scratched the surface when it comes to the many colorful alien races who call it home. No doubt The Last Jedi will soon add a whole new wave of distinctive creatures to the lineup.

As we gear up for the new sequel, we thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of the most memorable aliens introduced in The Force Awakens and Rogue One (and soon, The Last Jedi). Check out our guide to this diverse and motley crew below:

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters on December 15 and boasts a run-time of 150 minutes, making it the longest Star Wars film yet. It's also tracking to have an opening weekend of $200 million, which would beat out Beauty and the Beast's record for the biggest opening of 2017.

Opinion: Why I Felt Uncomfortable Playing The CoD WW2 Campaign

It’s very hard not to be engulfed back into the world of Call of Duty every year, especially as a lover of first person shooters. I was excited to go back to World War II and experience a new harrowing chapter set against the backdrop that we first stepped foot into when we played the first few games in the series almost 15 years ago now. However, that huge period of time away from the era has allotted me a fuller knowledge of history, a chance to listen to stories about World War II from veterans still alive today as a documentarian, and even a chance to explore the history of my own grandfather, who fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Now, that’s not to say these experiences have changed the way I’ve absorbed entertainment, especially about war. Many of the great games and films I’ve played and watched today are deeply rooted in war stories, historic and modern. Some of them are brutal and real in their portrayals (The Grey Zone, Saving Private Ryan) and some of them are outlandish and caricaturistic (Inglourious Basterds, Wolfenstein).  Yet, those stories have planted their stance on war in some way or another.

Andy Serkis Analyses Caesar's Journey

Over the last seven years, Andy Serkis has played Caesar in three of the best blockbusters of recent years. It's a proper trilogy, too, with each film developing and deepening the character from lab experiment to a strong, compassionate leader.

In the video above, Serkis – the man who knows the character better than anyone – goes through six scenes from the trilogy that define Caesar's journey.

9 Unforgettable PS VR Experiences

From riding a highway to hell in Thumper to playing Tetris using your whole face, there are some things you can only properly experience in virtual reality. Here are some of the most unforgettable moments we’ve seen on PS VR.

If you’ve played a VR space dogfighting game like Eve: Valkyrie or Elite: Dangerous, you’ll be familiar with the speed at which your jaw descends towards your navel the first time you crane your neck to see the stars.

X-Wing VR Mission turns that feeling up to 11. You’re a rookie pilot escorting a Rogue One VIP when a Star Destroyer closes in to attack. It’s one thing seeing the might of the Empire on a cinema screen, but something else to take on the giant starship and a squadron of TIE fighters by yourself, with only trusty R2 unit to cover your back.

Dark Will Scratch Your Stranger Things Itch on Netflix

With Stranger Things and Marvel’s The Punisher in the rear-view mirror, knowing what to watch next in the streaming world is a difficult task. There is so much content available that it can be overwhelming. Thankfully, Netflix has a new show dropping on December 1 that is worth checking out.

Dark is the streaming giant’s first original series made in Germany (with English subtitles). The 10-episode supernatural thriller is centered around a small German town and follows four unique families who have more in common than they realize. In the vein of Stranger Things and Twin Peaks, mysteries abound in this seemingly peaceful town where nothing is supposed to go wrong.

Dark takes its cues from shows that have been pop culture successes in recent years. The Stranger Things comparison is relevant, due to the use of 80’s music, kids riding bikes, and a government conspiracy lurking at the edge of town. Instead of the Hawkins Laboratory from Stranger Things, there’s a large nuclear power plant looming in the distance. The power plant is hiding something from the town’s residents. When two children go missing near the plant, the officials at the nuclear facility are reluctant to help.

American Gods Showrunners Exit Show Over Creative Differences

Starz drama American Gods has lost its two showrunners, Bryan Fuller and Michael Green.

Variety reports Fuller and Green, who are also the creators of the series, are exiting the show due to creative differences with producer FremantleMedia. The pair were said to be pushing for an increased budget for Season 2.

The per-episode budget for the second season of American Gods is reportedly already nearly USD$10 million. There's no word yet on who might take over for Fuller and Green.

Green is currently working on the Netflix drama Raising Dion and several other TV projects. Meanwhile Fuller, who bowed out as the showrunner for Star Trek: Discovery early on in production, is working on Apple’s Amazing Stories.

Microsoft 'Broadening Approach' to Gaming Market

Microsoft has announced that it's "broadening its approach" in the gaming market.

CEO Satya Nadella announced the company's ambitions in the gaming space during  Microsoft’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders (via DualShockers).

“We’re mobilizing to pursue an expansive opportunity in the 100+ billion gaming market," said Nadella. "This means broadening our approach to how we think about gaming end-to-end. About starting with games and how they’re created and distributed, and how they’re played and viewed.”

Nadella went on to reference services Game Pass and Mixer as a means to promote connectivity among its hardware, and said Microsoft plans to “grow and engage the over 53 million Xbox Live members more deeply and frequently.” He also mentioned the Xbox One X is seeing “incredible response from fans this Holiday season.”

Bungie Addresses the 'State of Destiny 2' in Blog Post

Bungie replaced a planned livestream today with a blog post from the Destiny development team addressing the game and where it stands with the Destiny 2 community.

The team said it's been reading, and taking to heart, feedback on improving the experience, as well as "tough criticism about our lack of communication."

"We agree we need to be more open," the post reads. "We want Destiny to be a game that fits into your life."

Further into the post, Bungie outlines its plans and improvements for both a December 5 and December 12 update, showing off things like Masterworks weapons.

Masterworks are Legendary weapons that have been upgraded. They also drop, and have advantages over Legendaries such as the ability to "track and display the number of kills with that weapon."

Stardew Valley on Switch Gets Major Patch Update

The popular indie farm RPG Stardew Valley has just released an update for the Nintendo Switch version which comes with a plethora of bug fixes.

The official patch notes contain a list of all the fixes found in the update but most notably are improvements to save times, crashing, audio glitches, and rumble during handheld mode as well as support for Nintendo's video recording feature.

Players familiar with these bugs will appreciate the much-needed patch after excessive save times and random crashes had plagued the port since launch but still didn't stop it from making it into our top 25 games on Switch.

Destiny 2: The New Curse of Osiris PVP Maps are a Blast

Destiny 2’s PVP mode is about to get an entirely new trio of PVP maps for the Crucible. The two which we had the opportunity to included Pacifica and Wormhaven, the latter being a PlayStation exclusive.

Pacifica has players face off on the surface of Titan. Similar in design to the surface area of the explorable Titan, the Pacifica map will have you either facing off in the narrow hallways and corridors that force you to fight over key entrances, or the long open interior hallways with elevated and ground level points of attack. Meanwhile on the exterior, it’s much more open offering, little cover to fight for the heavy or it'll allow you to flank enemies defending the doorways.

Like, these two guys are dead now for kayfabe realsies is my suggestion. Death by poison gas. Nobly sacrificing themselves so that Breezango could live. Maybe in a few months or so they could come back with a total repackaging, or maybe they could just vanish for good, I haven't totally come up with a full plan for the aftermath of this crucible. But I'm open to suggestions. As long as those suggestions are not them somehow "not painfully dying from poison gas."

All the Money in the World Director on Cutting Kevin Spacey From All the Money in the World

Ridley Scott has spoken up about replacing Kevin Spacey with Christoper Plummer in All the Money in the World, saying the decision to cut Spacey was "simple."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Scott, who learned about the sexual harassment allegations against Spacey while working on the sound edit for the movie, said he knew he couldn't keep Spacey in the film.

"I sat and thought about it and realized, we cannot," Scott said. "You can’t tolerate any kind of behavior like that. And it will affect the film. We cannot let one person’s action affect the good work of all these other people. It’s that simple."

PUBG Studio’s New Game Is a Steampunk MMO

To say Bluehole is on a hot streak right now would be an understatement. With more than 20 million copies sold, the studio’s PUBG is one of the most popular games in the world. But the team is also known for Tera, a 2011 MMO that is still played by many people. But Bluehole is hardly resting on its laurels; Last week, during the Gstar game-convention in their homeland of Korea, they announced and demoed their latest game: Ascent: Infinite Realm.

With Ascent, Bluehole is returning to its roots. It’s an MMO that takes place in a world that combines fantasy and steampunk influences. The planet where players reside consists of many islands, which are floating in the air. Residents use airships as their main form of transportation to reach the multitude of different islands.

Star Citizen Now Lets You Buy Digital Plots of Land With Real Money

If you're looking to own a piece of the digital heavens, Star Citizen is now offering plots of land for you to plant your flag.

For the price of $50 USD, you can own a 4km square parcel of land on any "planet, moon, or asteroid" under United Empire of Earth (UEE) control.

From there you're basically free to do with the virtual land whatever you please. Want to start a virtual space commune? Zone your land for residential use. Thinking of launching your own space shop? Get a commercial use zoning permit.

It's almost like actually buying land in real life, but for much cheaper... and it doesn't exist outside the digital realm.

If you're worried the "best" plots of land will get grabbed up by no-good carpetbaggers and speculators, Robert Space Industries wants you to know that won't be a problem.

52 Images From Avengers: Infinity War

The first trailer for Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War has arrived! And it did not disappoint with its assemblage and mix of the many MCU heroes. Doctor Strange and Hulk? Scarlet Witch and a... human Vision?! Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy?!!

And of course, you also need to watch the trailer itself if you haven't already. Here it is for your infinite consumption:

Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War is just the first part of the story -- the conclusion, and fourth as-yet-untitled Avengers film is currently filming. Infinity War hits on May 4, 2018, while that fourth film, the culmination of Marvel's Phase 3 and everything that has come before in the MCU, is scheduled for a May 3, 2019 release.

Classic Maps Coming to Doom VFR

Doom VFR will include playable virtual reality versions of two classic Doom maps, IGN can confirm.

Toxic Refinery and Nuclear Plant will both be available to play in all their low-res glory, with everything in the environment - walls, objects and so on - looking exactly as they did over two decades ago, while the enemies you fight are ripped from last year's game.

The classic maps are played in the same way as the full game, with either a pair of Move controllers or a standard DualShock. Free movement is also an option, so it plays like a standard first-person shooter rather than teleporting from one position to the next.

The maps are unlocked by playing through the main campaign, although it's currently unclear if they're accessed in the same way as 2016's console version.

Disney Acquisition Talks With Fox Reportedly Back On

The potential acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s movie and television production operations by Disney is reportedly still on the cards, claims Deadline co-editor-in-chief Mike Fleming Jr. in his column, published today.

“I just want to start with a juicy rumor that is fast gaining steam in town today, that Disney is progressing speedily toward that rumored acquisition of Fox,” wrote Fleming. “The version I heard has the Murdoch clan keeping possession of sports and news properties, and the rest of TV and the film studio going to Disney.”

“Radio silence right now from both studios, and given how Disney made the Marvel and LucasFilm deals under the cone of silence, if this happens we’ll probably only know it when it’s announced. It is certainly being talked about today.”

Joe Russo told her to put her hand in front of Mark
