The PlayStation 4 is getting external hard drive support in the next system update.
System Update 4.50, codenamed Sasuke, will finally let owners plug in a USB 3.0 external hard drive to expand the console’s storage. HDDs up to 8TB in size are supported, and transferring software or downloadable content can be managed via the settings menu. All applications stored on an external hard drive will still show up on the main home screen.
Also coming in the update is the ability to use screenshots as background wallpaper, a smaller quick menu which takes up less of the screen, a simplified notifications list (placing Game Alerts, Downloads, Uploads, and so on into one list), and the option to post directly into the Activity Feed. For PSVR owners, 4.50 lets them watch 3D movies in stereoscopic 3D directly on the PSVR headset.
