Marvel's Create Your Own Comic Platform Comes With Restrictions

Marvel's Create Your Own platform is set to let you take control of creating your own comics using Marvel superheroes, but some restrictions apply.

The website for the not-yet launched platform lists the restrictions, some of which are pretty straight-forward, while others seem odd. For example, the platform is region-specific, so only aspiring comic writers "physically located" in the US, Canada, Australia, and Singapore can use the service.

However, creators are also prohibited from using "obscenity, bad or offensive language," or even "proxies for bad or offensive language." That means your comics can't even use the classic '@#$%!' for curse words that have existed in comic-dom for ages.

Star Wars Veteran John Williams to Write a Theme for Solo

John Williams will write a theme for Solo: A Star Wars Story.

In an interview with Variety, Williams revealed he will be working on his ninth Star Wars film, with John Powell still staying on as Solo's primary composer.

"The present plan is that I’m writing a theme for Han Solo, and John Powell is going to write the score, which he’ll do brilliantly," Williams said.

Powell will be writing the rest of the themes for the movie, which Williams says he's excited to hear. Lucasfilm announced Powell as Solo's composer earlier this summer.

If you plan on collecting every single thing in Super Mario Odyssey, you’re going to need a lot of coins. And by a lot, we mean 37,189 coins if you don’t use amiibo to get any outfits. It takes 11,900 coins just to get the final Power Moons, and one special outfit costs 9,999 coins alone.

Below are great coin farming spots that should help make getting coins for those final moons and outfits much easier. We’ve picked three spots that you can reach early, midway, and late into the game.

15 Games that were Delayed Out of 2017

An absurd number of incredible games came out this year, so it seems crazy to think that there were supposed to be even more.

As 2017 began, we were expecting to get games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Shenmue 3, and even a new Toejam and Earl. Frankly, I’m sort of glad we didn’t given how big my 2017 backlog is without them. But here are 15 of the biggest games that got pushed to 2018.

Original launch window: The second half of 2017

New launch window: Q2 2018

There’s no other way to start this list than with Red Dead Redemption 2. People have been waiting on bated breath for more info - and while we thought we’d get a release this year, we ended up only getting a brief gameplay trailer. It was originally supposed to come out in late 2017, but has been pushed to the second quarter of 2018.

Top 5 Switch Games of December 2017

There's no doubt that 2017 has been a fantastic year for Nintendo. With the new year just around the corner, it's time to look back and go over some of the best Switch games released this month.

There’s no point in dodging the fact that Brawlout bears a striking resemblance to the Super Smash Bros. series. It plays very similarly to Nintendo’s already massively popular fighting game franchise, but trust me, that’s a good thing. With a colorful mix of original and franchised characters from other indie games, Brawlout doesn’t hold back on fast-paced action. In fact, It removes the incentive for using defensive strategies by entirely ditching the ability to block and emphasizes on all-out attack.

The photos, which you can view below, feature some new and familiar faces, including a proper look at Jude Law playing a younger Albus Dumbledore. Also featured are the returning Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander and Johnny Depp as the titular villain Gellert Grindelwald.

Why Collecting 900 Korok Seeds Gets You a Giant Poop

Of the many tasks in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, collecting every Korok seed is perhaps the most daunting. Around every corner, at the top of every mountain, behind every pillar, a Korok seed could be waiting, along with a short puzzle or race in order to unlock it.

After finally completing the monumental task of collecting all nine hundred of them, your reward is probably not what you were expecting: Hestu’s Gift, a golden piece of poop.

Bumblebee: First Photo from the Transformers Prequel

Paramount Pictures has released the first photo for the Transformers prequel Bumblebee.

The shot shows actress Hailee Steinfeld standing next to an older, yellow VW bug version of Bumblebee. The Autobot is pretty darn dusty and dirty, and that makes sense considering he's hanging out in a Californian junkyard, according to the movie's synopsis. Check out the photo below:

Opinion: The X-Men Need Jean Grey Back

Warning: this article contains spoilers for Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey #1!

No major superhero character stays dead forever, but Jean Grey sure knows how to cling to the afterlife longer than most. 14 years after being killed by Fake Magneto (long story) in New X-Men #150, Jean is finally making her return in the miniseries Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey. That book is set to pave the way for a new ongoing series called X-Men Red in February, with Jean leading a brand new team. Clearly, Jean's return is a big deal for the X-Men franchise, as well it should be. She couldn't be coming back to life at a better time. After a year where Marvel has tried and failed to reinvigorate the struggling X-Men comics, Jean Grey's return may be just the thing to finally put the franchise back on track.

Nintendo Loses Appeal Against Motion Control Patent Case

Nintendo has lost one of its appeals in regards to a motion-sensing accelerometer patent held by iLife.

RollingStone reports that the U.S Court of Appeals upheld the decision made by a Texas jury back in August, to award iLife $10 million in damages stating Nintendo infringed on a patent belonging to iLife Technologies with its Wii and Wii U systems.

This began nearly 4 years ago when iLife filed a $144 million infringement case against Nintendo for what it believes was an infringement against its patent regarding motion-sensing technology, which is used to monitor infants and the elderly.

How to Never Spoil Your Friends on Twitter Again

ROT13, a decades-old letter substitution cipher, is changing the way people discuss spoilers on social media.

The cipher, which simply shifts each letter 13 places in the alphabet, turns spoilers into gibberish, allowing people to openly discuss plot points from movies, TV series, video games, and more.

For example, Twitter user Nathan Edwards posted a Star Wars: The Last Jedi spoiler using ROT13. Those who've already seen the movie and want to decipher the message can simply copy and paste it into the ROT13 website.

Ice Age-Era Fossils Discovered in LA Subway

For those not from the Los Angeles area, it's quite a surprise to learn the city famous for its traffic jams has a subway system. But what's even more surprising is the frequency in which Ice Age fossils are discovered by teams working to expand LA's underground mass transit system.

According to the Associated Press, fossil remains have routinely been discovered since the subway expansion began in 2014. Among the discoveries have been a "rabbit jaw, mastodon tooth, camel foreleg, bison vertebrae," as well as a "tooth and ankle bone" from an ancient North American horse.

Every Story We Want Out of The Last Jedi

Divisive as it may be, The Last Jedi carried the tradition of the other Star Wars films by introducing new characters and making surprising adjustments to the story and lore of the universe. And, like any other Star Wars film, we are now left with many questions answered, and even more remaining.

Since Disney’s revival of the Star Wars franchise, we’ve seen several books, comics, and television shows that have explored different characters and tangents seen within the core films themselves. Now, in the wake of The Last Jedi, we have several stories we want to see fleshed out within the expanded universe to help bridge the gap between Episodes VIII and IX.

Pentagon Program Studying UFOs Revealed

A once classified Pentagon program studying UFOs has recently been unveiled.

The New York Times reports the $22 million project, titled the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program, launched in 2007 after former Senator Harry Reid of Nevada expressed deep interest in the subject. According to the Pentagon, the program shut down in 2012, five years after it started.

Before the program began, Reid spoke to Robert Bigelow about the potential of alien life actually existing. Bigelow is the billionaire founder of an aerospace company and he firmly believes UFOs have indeed visited the United States.

IGN's Best-Reviewed Games of 2017

Over the course of 2017, IGN reviewed more than 200 games. Of all of those, these are the ones that stuck out the most, earning a score of 9.0 to 10 and winning our Editors' Choice Award. Note that this list isn't an exact copy of our Game of the Year 2017 nominees, and winners weren't decided by the highest score. That's because reviews are the opinion of an individual critic around the time of release, while Game of the Year is decided by IGN's staff as a group near the end of the year. But all of the games below impressed us mightily at the time of review, and are absolutely worth checking out today if you missed them!

Nintendo Reportedly Delaying 64GB Switch Game Cards

Nintendo reportedly won't offer 64-gigabyte game cards for Switch until 2019.

The Wall Street Journal says Nintendo originally planned to deliver the bigger Switch game cards to developers in the second half of 2018. But there's apparently been a delay due to technical issues.

The largest Nintendo Switch game card currently is 32 gigabytes. That's considerably smaller storage compared to a Blu-ray, which can hold up to 50 gigabytes of data for a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One game.

Now there have already been data storage issues with Nintendo Switch games. For example, NBA 2K18 on Switch requires an additional microSD card because of the hybrid system's small internal storage of 32 gigabytes. The same is true for LA Noire.

Zelda Director: Speedruns, Shrine Skips 'All According to Plan'

Players have pulled off a lot of incredible stunts in Breath of the Wild, from completing the entire game in just a few hours to finding ways to beat long shrines with quick, easy physics skips.

After working on such a gigantic, meticulously-designed game, we asked series producer Eiji Aonuma and game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi how they feel seeing people find shortcuts and alternate solutions.

“That was definitely one of our goals. That's totally all according to plan,” Fujibayashi told IGN. “A big theme of this game was that there should be multiple answers, multiple methods, multiple ways of doing anything. All the dungeons, we wanted to make it so that the players would be able to solve problems in any way they wanted to without us even being able to know what they would do to solve it."

President Trump Wants to Send Man to the Moon Again

The Trump administration wants NASA to send astronauts to the moon again.

NPR reports President Donald Trump has signed the "Space Policy Directive 1," which puts a focus on potentially having U.S. astronauts make trips beyond low-Earth orbit for the first time in decades. "The directive I'm signing today will refocus America's space program on human exploration and discovery," Trump said.

NASA's space shuttles have been retired since 2011, with Americans using Russian capsules to ride up to the International Space Station. Though there's now a new focus on going to the moon, the ultimate goal is to finally set foot on Mars.

A History of Screwups

The game industry never goes without a controversy for long. The latest one concerns Electronic Arts, now in the crosshairs over pay-to-win lootbox features in Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Yet Josef Fares, director of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and the upcoming EA-backed A Way Out, offered a modest defense for the EA at the recent Game Awards: “All publishers fuck up.”

He’s right, of course. No major game company has an entirely spotless record. The industry’s most popular names all made mistakes, and sometimes those mistakes spelled doom. Others were just bumps in the road. We packed together the biggest blunders of the biggest game publishers past and present to see just how they bounced back— or didn’t.

Remembering Star Trek: Phase II

Captain James T. Kirk announces at the head of every episode of the original Star Trek that the Enterprise is on a five-year mission. After three years, however, the show was canceled. We did get an additional two years in 1973 with the airing of Star Trek: The Animated Series, but only the most hardcore of Trekkies consider that show to be fully canonical (even the franchise's handlers consider it to be “semi-canon”). It wasn't until the late 1970s, when Star Trek was being run in endless syndication, that the show really began to sink its hooks into the pop culture fabric. Fans began assembling in hotel ballrooms as early as January 1972 to celebrate Star Trek, a practice that was, essentially, the invention of pop-culture conventions as we know them.

Now's the Perfect Time for Fantastic 4 to Join the MCU

Comic books are complicated. Superhero movie aren't much better. They're an intertwining mess of moving plotlines, changing contracts, and shifting alliances, and that's just talking about the business dealings behind the scenes. On camera, worlds can end in one film and five-second stingers can blow out into entire universes. Trying to work in a new host of characters and concepts can be a headache.

Lucky for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the cosmos is in sync and the stars are aligning. Disney has purchased Fox, bringing a ton of assets along for the ride. That includes Marvel's First Family, the Fantastic Four. And there couldn't be a better time for it to happen. It's sure to bust up some plans, result in a couple of cancelled flicks that started life under Fox, but the moment is right for this merger to begin.

Newly Discovered Black Hole Is the Farthest Ever Found

A newly discovered supermassive black hole is the farthest ever found.

A team of scientists, led by the Carnegie Observatories’ Eduardo Banados, reported the findings in the journal Nature. The black hole, whose mass is 800 million times greater than that of the Sun, lies in a quasar. Powered by black holes devouring everything around them, quasars are some of the brightest objects in the universe.

Since the black hole is 13 billion light years away, it provides a snapshot of what the earliest universe must've been like, only just hundreds of millions of years after the Big Bang, which is 5 percent of the universe's current age. Banados equates it to seeing a photo of a 50-year-old man when he was 2 1/2 years old.

NASA Discovers New Planet System Similar to Our Own

NASA and Google have announced the discovery of new planets, one of which makes for the discovery of the first other solar system to have at least eight planets, like our own.

After teasing the announcement earlier this month, the companies revealed Google's artificial intelligence software discovered an additional planet to the already known Kepler-90 star system. The software used machine learning to go through old data collected by NASA's Kepler telescope and find the new planet, which has been named Kepler-90i.

According to Business Insider, Kepler-90i appears to be a small, uninhabitable, hot, rocky planet, positioned third from the sun, which was originally missed by astronomers due to having a weak signal.

The Most Impactful Deaths in the Netflix MCU

Netflix's corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe tends to be much darker and drearier than what we see in Marvel Studios' films. It's a world where death lurks around every corner. Whether hero or villain, it seems like every character in these shows is haunted by death in some way. Either that, or they eventually die themselves.

With that in mind, we thought it would be interesting to look at the most significant deaths in the Netflix MCU series. These aren't all necessarily major characters, but each of these deaths has had a profound impact on the heroes and storylines in these shows. Beware of spoilers for all of these shows!

Marvel's The Punisher is the most recent addition to Netflix's Marvel lineup. Check out our review of the first season and then learn more about the character who looks to be a major villain in Season 2.

Point-and-Click Seinfeld Adventure Game Looks Incredible

A Seinfeld adventure game has been in the works from Australian indie developer Jacob Janerka for sometime now, and visually, it's everything you could hope for in a LucasArts-style game.

For example, the pixel-art Jerry and George are absolutely spot-on. Other characters and locales from the show are faithfully recreated in gorgeous '90s style pixel artistry, including Kramer, Elaine, and Newman.

Zelda, Mario Devs Comment on Each Other’s Games

Nintendo had a great year, with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey both earning an unbelievable amount of praise, including 10/10 review scores from IGN.

Following both games receiving honors at this year’s Game Awards, we spoke to Mario Odyssey producer Yoshiaki Koizumi as well as Breath of the Wild director Hidemaro Fujibayashi and producer Eiji Aonuma about their favorite parts of each other’s games.

“I think for me, the parts where you're able to go from 3D into 2D and go into the wall and it becomes the old school style,” Fujibayashi told IGN about Mario. “I especially liked where it looks like there's nowhere to go, but then the walls curve around. It was super unique. It actually reminded me a bit of Zelda.”

The Last Jedi's Massive Second Weekend Drop

Star Wars: The Last Jedi topped the North American box office in its second weekend with an estimated $68.5 million, but it also plummeted a steep 68.9% from its $220 million debut. Despite this nasty drop, The Last Jedi will finish the three-day weekend at $745.4 million worldwide and $365.1 million domestic after just ten days in release.

Now for the dark side of this news. The Last Jedi "lost more money between its first and second weekends than any film ever, by a lot," as Forbes put it. The film's $151 million drop is a greater gap than the $121 million between the first two weekends of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II.

Horizon Zero Dawn does a lot of things well, but its combination of stealth and excellent action is where it really shines. The beginning of the game has you fighting smaller robot-dinos that are just barely bigger than Aloy, but it’s not long before she’s forced to fight foes two-to-three times her height. Yet the true accomplishment comes from her slowly chipping away on enemies that are as tall as a house. It’s gratifying to watch these robot fiends slowly come undone from her precise attacks. You almost start to feel bad for them. And when that huge creature finally has no more fight to give and comes comes crashing down to the ground, it’s a satisfying sense of accomplishment that you can’t wait to feel over and over again. – Mark Medina, Associate Features Producer

The Last Jedi: Explaining THAT Leia Scene

SPOILERS are discussed ahead for Star Wars: The Last Jedi!

Don't read this if you haven't seen the movie! Bookmark this page and come back and check it out after you do!

The new Star Wars movies have altered a lot of what fans thought they knew about the post-Return of the Jedi saga, but one thing has remained constant. In both the new universe and the Legends universe, Leia has chosen to focus on politics, helping to rebuild the Republic rather than follow in her brother's footsteps and embrace her Jedi potential.

That's why it was such a surprise to see Leia tap into her latent abilities in The Last Jedi, cheating what seemed to be certain death in the cold vacuum of space and flying her way back to her battered ship.

World of Tanks Update 1.0 Will Be a “True Game Changer”

Wargaming has announced a major new update for World of Tanks will be arriving in March 2018: Update 1.0. Update 1.0 will bring with it a complete visual makeover, powered by an advanced, in-house graphics engine.

Over 25 World of Tanks maps are being redesigned for this update with improvements to water, vegetation, skies, terrain, and lighting. Wargaming is promising the increased effects quality and fidelity will have no adverse effects on the game’s overall performance.

“Update 1.0 is a true game changer,” said World of Tanks development director Milos Jerabek. “Though the spirit of the game remains the same, the introduction of the new graphics engine leads to a far greater boost in image fidelity than a simple resolution increase. It’s a staggering difference from the game as you know it, and we can’t wait for players to get hands-on with it.”
