Cuphead has been surprise released on PlayStation 4, and developer Studio MDHR has announced a free update coming to the existing Xbox One version. Announced during an interview with Geoff Keighley on a Summer Game Fest stream, the beautiful, challenging combat-platformer will be available on PS4 for $19.99 USD / £15.99 (no Australian prices available at time of writing). MDHR co-founder Chad Moldenhauer said: "To all the impassioned PlayStation fans who've sent us messages over the years: we're so excited for you to get a chance to experience Cuphead firsthand. We're also hugely thankful to the wonderful team at Xbox, who continue to empower us to bring our game and our story to new audiences." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/28/cuphead-playstation-4-launch-trailer"] The upcoming Xbox update will add "a digital art gallery, behind-the-scenes commentary features, and playable soundtrack to the game." No date has been given for the update's release. It marks one of the last major platforms to see a Cuphead release, after it sold 6 million copies across Xbox, PC, Mac, and Switch. A DLC expansion, The Delicious Last Course is still due to release this year after a delay, and MDHR says we'll learn more in the coming months, but no release date was given, with Studio MDHR COO Maja Moldenhauer saying it will "come out when it's ready". Moldenhauer added that the DLC will feature more advanced animation than that seen in the already stunning original game. We're also waiting for more information on The Cuphead Show, a Netflix TV series currently in development - for which we recently got a first teaser trailer.
