Mark Wahlberg Is Only Signed for One Uncharted Movie

Sony Pictures may be thinking "franchise" when it comes to their upcoming video game movie adaptation Uncharted, but actor Mark Wahlberg told IGN that he is only signed on for one movie. We asked Wahlberg -- who is set to play treasure-hunting mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan to Tom Holland’s young Nathan Drake -- about sequels at Saturday’s press junket for his new Netflix movie Spenser Confidential, a project that could itself be sequelized given that it’s based on a long series of detective novels as well as an ‘80s TV show. While Wahlberg seemed open to revisiting the role of Spenser if the audience response was strong enough, he said he’s generally not interested in sequels and pointed to having only done two over his two-decade film career: Transformers: The Last Knight and Daddy’s Home 2. Watch what Mark Wahlberg had to tell us about Uncharted below: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/03/uncharted-mark-wahlberg-is-only-signed-for-one-movie"] When pressed on Uncharted sequels -- a property that Sony must surely be thinking has film franchise potential -- a smiling Wahlberg said, “Well, they’re thinking a lot but, you know what, I’m in for one right now so we’ll see.” Wahlberg has a long history with the Uncharted movie, having previously been attached to play Nathan Drake years ago when David O. Russell was planning to direct. So what is it about Uncharted that has kept his interest in the project all these years? For Wahlberg, it’s that Uncharted offers him a chance to be in a movie that’s like so many classics he’s enjoyed. It’s got this Bond kind of feel to it. It just feels like, wow, this is the first opportunity to be in a movie that’s A Movie. So that’s exciting.” Uncharted will be directed by Venom’s Ruben Fleischer. The movie has just added Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali (Grey's Anatomy) and Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) to the cast. Uncharted begins shooting later this month in Europe and will boast multiple locations worldwide, according to star Tom Holland.
