The Simpsons is on track to break a major TV record, as the hit animated series has been renewed for both seasons 29 and 30.
As noted by TheWrap, the renewal of Fox's long-running comedy show will bring the series' episode total to a whopping 669 episodes. As such, The Simpsons will soon be the new record holder for the most episodes ever for a scripted primetime show, surpassing Gunsmoke's 635-episode record.
"This is yet another record-setting moment for what is truly a landmark series," Fox co-chairmen and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman said in a statement. "The Simpsons has meant so much to the network, the studio and everyone at Fox, and its continued cultural impact around the globe is a testament to the combined brilliance of Matt (Groening), Jim (James L. Brooks), and Al (Jean)."
