Fortnite: Rocket Launch Event Left More Questions Than Answers

The countdown is over and the rocket has launched, ending Fortnite's first one-time event.

As expected, the rocket launched from the evil lair and headed straight for the sky. Soon after, a red laser touched down in Tilted Towers and a blue vortex starting spawning all over the map. The event quickly ended when the strange object shot back up and and tore a rip in the sky.

So what changed? For starters, the rocket is now obviously missing from the lair but you can also find the remains of the rocket up north in Anarchy Acres.

Not everyone got to enjoy the event. Minutes before the launch, players trying to login were left to wait in queue long enough to miss the event entirely. Even if you missed the event, you can still see the tear in the sky.

Overwatch’s New Hero Is a Ton of Fun but Extremely Weird

When Overwatch’s 28th hero was revealed to be a hamster in a spherical, robotic killing machine, some people genuinely thought it was a joke. But this fuzzy-faced friend is very real, and after spending some time trying him out on the PTR, may stand as one of my favorite Overwatch heroes to date.

His ability to roll around the map and then shoot out a grappling hook to start swinging through the air feels completely unique within Overwatch’s roster. It’s wildly different from the Pharah’s flying, D.Va’s jets, and even Widowmaker’s own hook despite the visual similarities. Frankly, it’s hard to think of any FPS character that feels quite like the adorable Hammond the hamster.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider Doubles Down on Puzzles and Exploration

Of the nearly 150 hours I have in Rise of the Tomb Raider, I spent plenty of them jumping off ledges, investigating corners, staring up at empty ceilings, and trying to get just the right angle to peek into a crack in a room to find the next obscurely hidden collectible. Exploration and all the challenges area that came with it were a great post-game activity in Rise of the Tomb Raider – that is, until exploration eventually became tedious and I realized how bloated Rise was with collectibles and other extra tasks. Shadow of the Tomb Raider touts a bigger and more immersive setting, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider's narrative director, Jason Dozois, and level design director, Arne Oehme, assured me that a focus on building out the game's fictional culture will help keep exploration interesting.

I’ve already written a list of the best gaming chairs available, but let’s be honest—there’s only so much money in anyone’s budget for a gaming throne. While there’s certainly something to be said for ergonomic racing chairs made of the finest Italian leather, or a swanky Herman Miller chair that's adjustable in 27 different ways, you shouldn't have to sell family heirlooms just to afford a decent gaming chair. In fact, there’s all kinds of excellent gaming chairs out there for about $100 or less, and that’s what this handy list is all about. Spend the extra dough on what really matters: games, or hardware.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says he believes that streaming games could allow for extreme growth in gaming.

In the YouTube video Q&A, Guillemot responds to a question about console cycles, and noted his belief that the advancements of streaming could add billions of players to the industry over the coming years.

"What we are dreaming is that technology will allow us to actually stream our games to all the TVs, mobile phones, and tablets in the future, and that we will be able to give an opportunity to all our brands to reach 2.5 billion in five years and maybe five billion players within ten years,” Guillemot said.

Marvel's Hulk Works Best as a Horror Story

In the age of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and hot on the heels of films like Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War it can get tricky to picture Bruce Banner and the Hulk as anything other than the nerdy scientist and occasional punchline. From his big reveal in the original Avengers, smirking coyly before announcing "That's my secret, Cap. I'm always angry," to his sudden petulance in the fight against Thanos, the Hulk's character arc hasn't been all that focused on making him a scary or tragic guy, more of the weird giant green sibling of the Avengers family.

The comics universe, on the other hand, has a very different idea of what it means to be the Strongest There Is -- and it's slowly revolutionizing the way modern Hulk stories work. With The Immortal Hulk #1, a recent release from Marvel Comics by writer Al Ewing and artist Joe Bennett, Bruce Banner's life has officially become a horror story -- and it's so much better for it.

Hollow Knight Has Sold Over 250,000 Copies on Switch

The atmospheric Metroidvania Hollow Knight has sold over a quarter of a million copies on the Switch in its first two weeks.

Developer Team Cherry revealed the number to IGN, and says the team is currently working on a patch to address bugs in the launch build.

In an interview with Waypoint, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime said that "Hollow Knight on Switch is doing exceptionally well," and now Team Cherry has shared exactly how well the title has been doing.

Hollow Knight was originally released on the PC in February 2017 after being revealed on Kickstarter and reaching its initial funding goal in 2014. It was subsequently released on macOS and Linux, but has found a natural home on the hybrid Nintendo Switch.

Judge Cuts ZeniMax's $500 Million Court Winnings From Facebook in Half

After a Texas jury awarded ZeniMax $500 million in its suit against Oculus last year, U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeade has reduced that payout to $250 million.

As reported by Bloomberg, Kinkeade's decision to retain a $250 million payout includes $200 million for breach of contract and an additional $50 million for copyright infringement. The $250 million that he is removing from the payout includes damages against Oculus co-founders Brendan Iribe and Palmer Luckey.

Additionally, Kinkeade rejected ZeniMax's request to ban the sale of Oculus headsets. At last year's hearing, a ZeniMax lawyer argued “a permanent injunction is the only way to stop" Oculus continuing to infringe upon copyrights. Oculus argued a proposed sales ban would place unfair hardship on the VR company - Kinkeade ultimately sided with Oculus on this front.

AOL reports the toy retailer will shutter all of its remaining locations across the United States by the end of the day, wrapping up its going-out-of-business sales in the process. Remaining stores are currently running sales up to 60-90% off.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Kicking Butt as the Splatoon Inklings

Nintendo finally revealed the first gameplay from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate during its E3 2018 Direct presentation. The reveal included two brand new fighters: Ridley from Metroid and the Inklings from Splatoon. I had an opportunity to go hands-on with the Inklings in Smash Bros. Ultimate to check out just what the squid kids can do and how they hold up against some of the more seasoned fighters on the roster. Simply put, I'm ink-credibly happy with what the squid kids have to offer.

With over six different variants (or costumes) to choose from, there's no doubt that you'll be fighting in style when you play as an Inkling in Smash Bros. Ultimate. That’s not all these Inkopolis natives have to offer, because their standard and special attacks see them switching between numerous weapons from Splatoon 2  including the Splattershot, Splat Roller, Ink Brush, Blaster, and Splasher.

Who Will Be the Next WWE Star to Break Out in Hollywood?

Over the years, several WWE stars have crossed over into movies with a mixed bag of roles. Who can forget Andre the Giant as Fezzik in The Princess Bride? Who would like to forget Hulk Hogan in No Holds Barred? Could anyone have predicted Kevin Nash would play a stripper in two Magic Mike films? We think not.

There are three actors you can't have this conversation without: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Dave Bautista, and John Cena -- all former WWE Champions who this year alone starred in Rampage, Avengers: Infinity War & Blockers, respectively, at the same time at the multiplex.

Their massive personalities and growing star power in back-to-back Hollywood blockbusters got us here at IGN thinking, who’s next, and who on the current WWE payroll has the potential and charisma to make the successful leap from the wrestling ring to the big screen? Check out our six picks in the slideshow below, or keep reading for the list.

Volcano disasters, a haunted house where there's a dinosaur playing the role of the ghost, and that's just the stuff from the trailers.

It stands to reason, then, that it might skip over a few things as it rushes to the next mad set-piece - so here are the biggest questions we want answered after watching the movie.

Spoilers ahead!

Forza Horizon 4: IGN's Real-Life Horizon Road Trip

The Forza Horizon series has been taking us around the globe since 2012. Colorado. Southern Europe. Australia. Now we’re going to Britain.

What do I think of when I think of Britain? Mary Poppins. Michael Caine. Moles?

I dunno; maybe that’s a little unfair. I mean, Australia and Britain aren’t really that different, culturally speaking. Yeah, we love fish and chips too, and we also drive on the left, and we have the same old lady on the back of our money. Sure, there are dissimilarities in the temperature we serve our beer and the amount of venom packed into our spiders, but the differences aren’t really as stark as I think we all like to pretend they are.

Geographically, though? That’s a different story. However, while I’ve been to Britain to visit developers a bunch of times over the past 15 years I still really haven’t seen that much of it in person. The places I’ve experienced are airports, motorways, and the inside of a few pubs. I’ve never really seen the Britain between all that.

Pillars of Eternity Director Would Rather Have the Constraints of Crowdfunding

For years, Obsidian Entertainment had long been one of the video game industry’s unluckiest studios. Between Sega canceling their role-playing game based on the Aliens franchise, Microsoft canceling the lofty “million-man raids” of Stormlands, or THQ folding shortly after acquiring the publishing rights for South Park: The Stick of Truth, publishers just weren’t looking like a good idea for the struggling team. Instead, Obsidian began to look towards the success of the Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter (which later became Broken Age), seeing it as a way for the team to make their pitch directly to fans of the studio’s work. In this month’s IGN Unfiltered, Pillars of Eternity director Josh Sawyer elaborates on how the change in the landscape of game publishing has impacted the studio, and how he prefers both the freedoms and limitations of crowdfunding.

The 25 Best Disney Animated Movies

Whether you're wishing upon a star, partying under the sea, exploring a whole new world, letting it go, or feeling the love tonight, it's an accepted absolute truth that Disney films are pure magic. And that's where our list of the 25 best Disney animated movies comes in.

Beasts and beauties, ladies and tramps, princesses and frogs - Walt Disney Animation Studios has been creating sublime ground-breaking entertainment for almost 100 years and its feature films, starting with 1937's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, have cemented a cinematic legacy.

As we now rank the 25 greatest Disney animated films - sorry, no Pixar on this list, folks (that's a different list) - please keep in mind that this was a Herculean effort (a hint based on one of the movies on the list, perhaps?) involving the weighing of time-honored classics, new upstart arrivals, the famed '90s resurgence/revival, and our own individual favorites. It's a blending of the best and brightest that Disney has to offer.

Disney Closes Planes Studio Disneytoon

Disneytoon Studios, the animation team behind the Planes and Fairies franchises, has been shut down.

IndieWire reports Disney closed the Glendale, California-based animation house — the company's third team alongside Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar. Disneytoon apparently employed around 75 people, and it's unknown whether they will be allocated to the other two companies.

"After much consideration, we have made the decision to end production activity and close Disneytoon Studios,” a Disney spokesperson told IndieWire.

The closure means an untitled movie from Disneytoon, scheduled for March 2019, is no longer happening. Disneytoon also created a plethora of direct-to-video releases, including Mulan 2, Tarzan 2 and Bambi 2.

Xbox May Be Getting Platform-Wide Mod Support

Rumours suggest Microsoft may be bringing more mod support to the Xbox One.

According to Windows Central, internal documents have leaked from a presentation which talks about a new Xbox Community Content platform.

The platform is said to allow developers to support user-generated content for their games, including defining what can be modded, how this new content can be used in game, and whether or not it will cost money.

Windows Central points out the idea of more mod support coming to the Xbox One is also backed up by a job listing posted by Microsoft earlier this year which called for applicants to "drive support for Xbox Live game mods."

Shenmue 3 Will Require a Whopping 100GB on PC

The highly anticipated sequel Shenmue 3 will require 100 GB of free space to install on your PC.

An update on Shenmue 3's Kickstarter page lists the system requirements for the PC version of the game as needing 100 GB of available space.

When you consider large open world games like The Witcher 3 clock in at around 45 GB this is a pretty sizeable install.

Other system requirements reveal the game is expected to need at least an Intel Core i5-4460 (3.40 GHz), 4 GB of ram, a GTX 650 Ti, and a broadband internet connection.

Shenmue 3 will have an open ending to allow for a sequel but the game has already been delayed twice now, being pushed back to a 2019 release. This might give us enough time to play the earlier games in the series again - ports for those have been in the works since before the Shenmue 3 announcement and should release sometime this year.

Pokemon Go Dev's New AR Tech Strives for More Realism

Pokemon Go developer Niantic has just released three trailers showing off its new Augmented Reality technology.

The AR experiences are currently codenamed Niantic Occlusion, Tonehenge, and Neon, and all show what looks like real-time gameplay with a more realistic nature than what we've seen in Pokemon Go so far.

Tonehenge has players using their phones to view an AR environment in which they can cooperatively move and turn statues to unlock energy orbs. Once this has been completed it gives them access to a jigsaw puzzle and completing the puzzle as a team looks to be the ultimate goal. You can view the full trailer below for a better look.

Neon, on the other hand, is more fast-paced and combat focussed.

GoT: Why Hodor Actor Didn't Like Ed Sheeran's Cameo in Season 7

Hodor actor Kristian Nairn did not particularly enjoy Ed Sheeran's cameo in Game of Thrones Season 7.

Sheeran showed up in the Season 7 premiere as a Lannister solider, speaking to Arya Stark while sitting by a campfire with fellow soldiers.

Speaking to Huffington Post, Nairn revealed he isn't a fan of these celebrity cameos on the show, as he thinks they take viewers out of Game of Thrones' rich world.

“I’m not a fan of the cameos in Game of Thrones," Nairn said. "I don’t like them. I think it’s stupid. I don’t mind going on the record on that. I just think it takes you right out of the world. Especially Ed Sheeran. I was like, ‘Why is Ed Sheeran here?’"

The Gifted Will Let Fans Choose a Side in the Mutant War at Comic-Con

Season 1 of The Gifted ended with our embattled mutant heroes following in the footsteps of Professor X and Magneto and choosing different paths, after coming to the heartbreaking realization that they may technically be on the same side, but have very different goals.

Season 2 will explore these two factions - the Mutant Underground (which includes Blink, Thunderbird, Eclipse, Lauren, Reed, and Caitlin) and the Hellfire Club's Inner Circle (Polaris, the Frost Sisters, Andy, and Season 2 newcomer Reeva, played by Grace Byers) - and their differing approaches to fighting for mutant rights. Fox will be showcasing both groups in some unique interactive artwork at San Diego Comic-Con, and IGN has an exclusive first look at the images, each showcasing two characters from the series. The network will also be giving away a mini poster which combines all the duos at the network's booth (#4229) on the convention floor. Check out the photos in the gallery below.

Resident Evil 2 Returns to its Horror Roots in the Best Ways

Out of all of Resident Evil’s many phases – the old-school, fixed camera angled, tank controlled approach of the original three; the less restrained roaming camera of Code Veronica; the over-the-shoulder third-person action of Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6; and the gruesome first-person of Resident Evil 7 (not counting the series’ many, many spin-offs) – my heart lies in the original three’s oppressive survival horror.

I miss the careful, deliberate framing of scenes, the importance of pre-planning routes and inventory management, the near-instinctual understanding of your surroundings developed by smart, productive backtracking, and the obscure puzzle solving that can make something as mundane as a police station feel like a terrifying gothic castle. Based on my 30 minute demo, the Resident Evil 2 remake – officially titled Resident Evil 2 – strikes an elegant balance between these old-school elements and the more modernized format of recent entries.

Toejam & Earl: Back in the Groove Set to Launch This Fall

HumaNature Studios and its founder, Greg Johnson, have posted a Kickstarter update for Toejam & Earl: Back in the Groove, stating the revival is set to launch later this fall and that a closed beta will be arriving next week.

The update elaborates that the Nintendo Switch version of the title is “just about ready to be submitted for certification by Nintendo, and the other console versions are not too far behind.”

Also, of note, Adult Swim Games will no longer be the publisher for Back in the Groove as HumaNature Studios will be self-publishing the game. Johnson explains that, “Adult Swim Games has some other big titles they plan to launch this summer so when Back in the Groove pushed back, we both agreed that it made sense for them to hand us the reigns, rather than taking a chance on this getting pushed back any more.”

Blizzard Exploring Big Changes to Sombra's Abilities

Big changes could be on the way for stealthy Overwatch character Sombra. Posting on the official Overwatch forums yesterday, Principal Designer Geoff Goodman detailed some Sombra changes Blizzard is currently testing – including infinite invisibility.

"These changes started by seeing how far we could push the duration of her Stealth and Translocator abilities," wrote Goodman. "As we pushed them out, it allowed her to play more and more as

scout/infiltrator for your team and also allowed her more time to pick and choose when and where she popped out to ambush her enemies.

"So now she has infinite duration on both Stealth and Translocator."

Sombra's Stealth ability allows her to become invisible, but it currently restricts her to up to five seconds of invisibility at a time followed by a cooldown of six seconds. The Translocator, a projectile Sombra can toss and teleport back to later, has an active timer of its own, lasting 20 seconds before being put into a four-second cooldown before another one can be tossed.

Amy Hennig Confirms She Left EA in January

Amy Hennig, known for her work on the Uncharted series, has officially confirmed that she is no longer with EA and that she has begun building an independent studio.

This news comes from Eurogamer, who interviewed Hennig at the Gamelab conference in Barcelona. Hennig confirmed that she left EA back in January, though she hasn't had the chance to officially announce her departure.

"I have not worked at EA since January, technically, legally," said Hennig. "I get along with all those people, I consider even the guys on the exec team friends. I never got the chance to announce that I'm not at EA so I need to just pull off that band-aid at some point - but also had nothing to announce. It makes it sound like I just went home! But I'm doing all this stuff, working on all kinds of things."
